On the transfer list at Meadow Lane. Decent 2nd Division keeper. Would require a fee though. Probably safer option than Bankole, who I'm not sure about.

If we are going to be paying any transfer fees I'd prefer it go on a goalscorer rather than a position where we have a suitable first choice player already. Nelson will do fine in goal next year.

Completely agree.

We need a second choice keeper (not a first choice IMHO), but I wouldn't want to pay money for one,

We have one in Julian...unless someone comes in for him (unlikley IMHO)

Don't rule that out just yet. He's a decent young keeper who could be very good with the right time and training invested in him. He also has a monster, monster agent who no doubt has bigger clients to sort out this summer but I'm sure will be able to put his name about.

Actually we need two goalkeepers who are both good enough to be first choice, both keepers have to be challenged otherwise comlacency could set in. IMHO an experienced keeper who could also be Goalkeeping coach and so fill two roles, would be ideal. My worry is that with Stannard gone our keepers might not be kept on their toes enough without regular one to one coaching. If not a player coach, then I feel we still require at the very least a part time goalie coach.

A part time goalkeeping coach would be hard to come by and a full time one is a bit of a luxury. We'd need to combine his role with another job but I'm not sure a still playing kepper would have the qualifications to be part of Allen's backroom team or to improve Nelson.

Long streak of underperforming piss. Mildenhall has flattered to deceive and would not do the job we need which as I said before is the presence of an experienced keeper content to sit on the bench, coach and push Nelson and fill in when he is injured, suspended or going through a bad patch.

Not sure about that, Stannard was originally part time and was coaching at Colchester and Southend as well as BFC at one stage. I think Graham Benstead might be doing something similar also at the moment.

But Allen would surely be looking for someone with top notch qualifications and up to date coaching methods. Not some ex-keeper for hire.

I'd agree with NLB's assessment of Mildenhall. The reason he's on the transfer list is that he's on a fat contract that Notts can't afford. Last season he deservedly lost his place to a couple of very mediocre keepers in Garden and Deeney.

He's just about the last of them that Notts have to clear out eg. Stallard, Caskey. There's even a rumour that they might at long last get be able to get rid of Tony Hackworth (the Winston Bogarde of the 2nd Division) - 24 games, 2 goals in 3 years on £100,000 a year.

Hackworth's had his contract cancelled.

Well both MA & Whitbread are less qualified than WD's  Furthermore Stannard did obtain coaching qualifications and worked on a freelance basis before being employed full time by BFC. Likewise how do you know what ex-keeper has top notch qualifications or not, many start their coaching badges whilst in their 30's preparing for the day retirement comes along? Also no ex-keeper should be rubbished because of little or no qualifications. Many premier coaches are ex keepers, given jobs when retired and they obtain their badge whilst employed as a coach. Tim Flowers for instance passed his coaching badge whilst with Leicester as keeper coach and has now moved on to Man City. This happens all the way down the divisions.
