Absolute legend. Poorly treated by the Beeb when they let him go. Last of the great 'frontmen' that worked for them.

Has done a decent job fronting touring car coverage, but has been low profile for years now.

I also remember him doing reporting for Sportswatch on LBC, must be 40 years ago!

He’s not actually retiring either. He was interviewed recently on Talksport and he will be continuing on a Channel/Youtube doing rally cross presenting. Recently recovered from prostate cancer

One of the great sports broadcasters and lovely guy. One of my sporting highlights was beating him in egg and spoon race at kids school. Memorable obviously!.

Met this very friendly gentleman in 2009 on a shuttle bus to catch a flight to Berlin to watch England play.
Around 15 or so of Brentfords finest and Steve on his own. God knows what he thought of these naughty men. He was very friendly and professional. Having spent all of 5 mins with him....what a thoroughly bloody nice bloke.

Met him a few times through work over last few years and he is very sociable, the ultimate professional, he remembers everyone by name.
The one thing that surprise you when you see him you always think of him being a tall man, Tv does that to people, but he’s about 5ft 4.
We talk about the Bees and his love Charlton when we talk football.
He‘s retiring from broadcasting but his main passion is Motorsport and the things he is working on will see him about for a few years longer.
