I am out of touch on the Steve Sidwell saga.
Is he staying on for another month / rest of season.
Can't understand why there has been a delay, player and both clubs are clearly benefiting from it.

I don't want to be controversial but I reckon we'd be best off letting him go back.

At the moment, he's only really going to play on the right of midfield and it's not his position at all, he doesn't seem comfortable there. It would enable us to get someone else in on loan.

I'm sure we could get someone more suited to that position or, maybe even give Willo a few games and bring in some cover for the left side.

We should definitely NOT let him go back. Agreed he is more suited to the centre of midfield and it's difficult to see Gav or Evo being dropped but its a long season and they will get injured/banned or who knows even transferred.

He is an excellent young player who has given 100% in every game and I cant see any advantage to anybody in not signing him on for the season.

Who knows if we do go up and we lose Gav or Evo we may even be able to get him permanently.

Hope he stays as he is quality and getting better each game and will get even better IMHO. Our first 12/13 in the squad are classy enough but we are looking a bit thin after that and we will no doubt experience some injuries and suspensions amongst the senior players that means we will need him. He can score goals too, something that seems beyond Gav at the moment.

Nice to see him " organising" the team at corners etc on saturday shows a maturity beyond his years.

Do agree though that he is not best placed on the right as he does have the pace or natural wing play of say Willo.

That is great news Edmundo though I don't know why the Club has yet to confirm. His goal against Blackpool was brilliant; a great finish from outside of the box in a game where I never thought Brentford would score. If it is a season long loan it gives us cover in case we do sell one of our midfield stars.

According to the official site, it now is a season-long loan, which is definately good news as he is a good player who gives his all in every game, and can be used to cover Evo or Gav in central midfield if needed.

gibbo can cover left back and left midfield and boxall is coming back to cover right defence.

Gibbo, Boxall and Rowlands are all injured, hence the urgent need for new faces. If Ijah gets injured or suspended we're totally stuffed..

As for the left-side, how's about Andy Sinton?!! He'd give us that bit of experience we need and give the fans a boost, I'm sure he wouldn't cost too much if anything either. Don't know if he's still fit though..

I have always thought Sinton would be seen again at GP - If Wolves were to go up I reckon he'd would finish his career at brentford like Neil Smillie. As for Sidwell he is only young and clearly is going to play in the premiership. I think it's great we have him till the end of the season.

He doesn't seem to have played very much this year, I don't think he's in Dave Jones' plans. I'm sure he'd be interested in guaranteed first team football, even if it's just on loan for a bit. The beauty of a player like Sinton is that he can play left or right side as well as in centre midfield. Just what we need I'd say.

But apparently we're on top form at the moment so we don't need anybody else! ;-)

Does anyone else share my view that Sidwell's a bit of a waste of space?
I doubt it. Everyone talk's about that goal against Blackpool, but he was virtually anonymous for the rest of the match. I think he's competent, but nothing special. The like of Pennant would certainly be much more useful. The one advantage Stephen has though is that he's a team player - he doesn't think he's too big for this club; Pennant might.
Basically, my point is that Sidwell's not as good as all that, and certainly Mahon and Evo are better (at this level).

Now to be really controversial...
Does anyone else think BBB is verging on the useless? (I've hidden it away in here rather than starting a new thread, so controversial to I feel people will find this).
I think he's a talented player and could potentially make it in the Premiership, but Second division football is a very different game. His lack of pace prevents him being half as effective as he could be. This is accentuated by the fact that pace would be particularly useful given our side's tactics.
My point is this: We would do far better to have a pacey forward up front rather than BBB. Did we ever think of going for Leon Knight? Surely he's rather be in London than in a sh*t hole up north? I reckon Leon Knight could do for us even more than Defoe did for Bournemouth last season, but then i guess it's too late now.

His lack of pace means that he will never make it at the top grade despite his fantastic talent.

Steve Sidwell, on the other hand, does have that burst of pace as well as undoubted ability, so he could well make a claim for a position in a Premiership team (but not necessarily at the Arse as his French is not good enough!!)

We have a 20 year old kid who has scored 12 goals at a rate of 1 in 2 matches, in addition by acting as a target man he has taken the weight off Owusu to such an extent that he has scored 12 times as well - the most prolific rate of his 2nd Division career.

BBB scares every team we play to death - he is one of the major reasons we are as high in the table as we are . Every team in this division would take him if they could. He is probably the most influential loan signing we have made since Paul Williams and Graham Rix.

Accentuate the positive rather than focus on the negatives.

He has a great first touch, he wins everything in the air, he is a good finisher, and he never gives up.

If he did have pace he would be playing in the Premier League now as it is enjoy him while you can.

As far as Sidwell is concerned it is not his fault he is not being played in his best position. For an untried youngster he proved a more than adequate replacement for Evans and he might have to fulfil that role again if the skipper is sold this season.

I would much prefer we sign young raw talent in loan rather than superannuated crap like Marsh and Jones.

IMHO, BBB is a quality goal scorer who can (at our level) score vital goals out of nothing using either foot or his head.

But I also think that for much of the game he disappears completely and looks extraordinarily average. Lloydie wins far more in the air than he does.

So, in my opinion, BBB is a vital player for us because he has the ability to score out of nothing, giving the whole team a lift. Although he looks painstakingly poor at other times (not always), he is still an integral aspect of the team for this reason.

However there's no way he'd be able to play in the Prem due to his lack of pace. Bobby Taylor is an example of a skilful player who couldn't cut it at the highest level because he wasn't quick enough. Granted, BBB is younger and more skilful, but the one thing that is vital in the top division is pace and it's also the one thing that you cannot teach a player. Which means he might as well stay with us in Div 1 next season!!

Was watching the Villa Man Ure game last night and the amount of space and time given is loads, when Man Utd attacked they had so much time on the ball it was unbeleiveable. No-one came in to make a challange.

Very good point - but I doubt that BBB will turn out anything like Sheringham, who I think is a fantastic but unique player, simply because of his footballing ability and distinct lack of pace.

Pace is vital ay any level unless you just happen to have a remarkable talent that makes up for it (enter teddy, Bob Taylor and bryan maclair for starters).
Sure, bbb would be lethal if he was fast, but how many 6 foot 6 giants have pace..not many.
He has scored 12 goals and is well on the way to 20 plus at the end of the season. BBB and lloyd are the perfect pairing as they can play off each other and have different strengths.
It is refreshing to see two players who play to their strengths.
I wonder if pinamonte could have been as good as BBB if he had the same players around him and a run in the side?

No chance ! For all his skill and touch Lorenzo was an effete, slow, unfit, lazy bastard who felt that football should be an non-contact sport.

How many times did he look to get in the penalty area where it really hurt ? He was great 25 yards out if you gave him room and space but did not like it up 'im.

He is now in the Italian 3rd Division - about his true level.

If BBB had an ounce of McCammon's pace then he would be a world beater but as it is he is a fantastic player who will have a long and successful career.

Spot on ED!

Both Steve Sidwell and BBB are potential class (and we have seen some of that class displayed this season).

Like the rest of the team they seem to play poorly against poor teams, and, let's face it we have yet to see any really class sides at GP this season.

I see a bright future for both of them in higher leagues, we are fortunate to have them on loan. I just hope that we can retain one or both of them if (sorry when) we get promotion in May.

Agree with you ed. Sidwell whilst some may not think he is that good givces us an extra option were Evans/Mahon not playing. Since his Loan is to the end of the season and do not count to loan days. Keep him at all costs as squad depth is critical at this stgae of the season.

As for BBB he is a good player
