Of course it requires courage! Every time a gay sportsman comes out the Justin Fashanu story gets revisited. It is now 20 years since he came out and no one within football is “brave” enough to follow him

What I find unacceptable is that anyone feels the need or has to "admit" to anything to do with their sexual activity. Homosexuality was decriminalised decades ago and it's way past time that anyone should feel they have to "admit" or justify or even have comment passed on their chosen lifestyle.

I wonder how many of the big butch guys who've taken the **** out of Davies would react if their son or daughter "admitted" they were gay?

I think a few people have misinterpreted my comments. When I say it shouldn't require bravery, that's exactly what I mean - not that it doesn't, but that it should not. As Nada says, this is 2011. I also don't think it's something to "admit", as if confessing to a wrongdoing. Beeky38 put it better than me.

The announcement must've come from Davies, so why did he have to 'come out' with it? Did somebody threaten to tell the world? I really couldn't give a monkeys about it all, it's his life, but he has brought attention on himself now.

Apparently Max Clifford has advised some footballers not to come out as it would ruin their career.
