There isn't a previous ex-Bees thread about this fella and none of the other topics about him have been posted in since 2005, so I thought why not.

He moved from us to Boston in 2005, before leaving in January 2009. He also had a short stint as caretaker manager there. He moved to Kidsgrove Athletic of the Northern Premier Div 1 South, before retiring at the end of the 08/09 season.

It was a difficult decision because we had such a successful season last year and I really enjoyed it but, at the age of 32, I just felt I needed to look to the future and Boston offered me just the kind of long-term deal I was looking for, and I just couldn't turn it down.

Always liked Talbot. Did a similar job as Douglas does now.

Totally agree.

He and Scott Fitzgerald (senior) were the mainstays to prevent us being relegated IMHO.

Thanks. A good article. Once again, it's clear why player's need to chase the lucrative contract. "Knees gone, hips gone, back gone and in his early 40's. I'd have thought an overhead linesman was pretty tough on the body to. Out in all weathers etc!

It highlights the dramatic changes in the English game in the last 15 years. Rather sad, really; I always liked him as a player.

When he came to us it was obvious that he was crocked and a better career had been wrecked by injury. Couldn't turn, no pace,couldn't tackle without staying down but somehow and to his credit still managed an effective performance.
