Sticky's

Is it me or are there too many Sticky's on this board.

At the moment there are 8 at the start of General Discussion and that number loses it's significance as being an item of special interest.

I just skip past the Sticky's and could well miss an item of importance which has become lost in the general maize of such threads.

I am sure that everyone who put's a Sticky on the board feels their's is/are worthwhile but I feel we have gone overboard in using them.

Sorry to those I upset but hopefully a practical critisicm rather than an obstructive one.

I tend to agree - but we need a policy on what should be sticky and what shouldn't. For instance, should the Stripes gigs be sticky? What about Walk to Wycombe? Please leave any comments/suggestions here.

Stickies are a good idea to highlight an important event. A sticky should be removed once the event has happened (obviously) or once the general level of interest in the relevant subject matter has waned.

This is a sensible proposal in order to separate BU info/promotional events from the General Bees discusssion forum, thus allowing and individusl to pinpoint which forum he needs.

the trouble is that when we had something similar, the BU forum got virtually no interest (as i seem to remember) which is why it was merged with GBD with the important BU stuff being at the top. It seems to be a problem which has been around for years, and no good solution seems to have been found. I guess that at the end of the day if people don't want to read the BU stuff then there is no way we can force them to. :(

prioritise?

Why not put ongoing projects in the BU forum (eg LKFs, CD, Bee Green etc) but leave `live` threads such as looming gigs and W2W in a busier forum.

Cant see what all the fuss is about. Cant people scroll past something that doesnt interest them?

Not everyone looks at every forum, I only look at 2 or 3.

GBD is surely the busiest so why not help us try and drum up a bit of interest and hopefully a few bodies to Stripes. Or is it THAT much of a pain to put sticky on a thread once a week

Apparently it's too much trouble for you, Pete. Personally I think that there is no perfect way to do this - one or two stickies was fine, but at eight it was getting out of hand. Let's try this for a while, eh?

I must admit i dont like the idea of BU and BIAS stuff not being in GBD as it in their own forum they just do not get the views.

As for the "Stickys" well I think "stickys" should only stick for a week, after that they can be bumped up. Most of the current stickies would have survived in the top fifteen if this was the case and would probably have got more views

Like i say Ed, most people (IMHO) dont spend all day on the net browsing each and every forum, and will just look at 1 or 2 forums.
Nver mind, the mods know best.

There is a sticky of ALL the BU events in the GBD forum.

Besides, I didn't see your thoughts when they were asked for with everyone elses beforehand PJ.

Or maybe they should go in Chit Chat as that is the post populous forum?

Anyway, what happens on Beesotted eh? Do you get a forum there? or stickies? Why don't you just have them on the BU Website? At the risk of being controversial - no won't say anymore!

Why have the Mods moved the BU survival fight activities away from General Discussion?

We need as much publicity and prominence as possible to help raise the funds to save this club and moving them away from the most popular forum will hinder us.

Please can we have it back as it was or at least an input into any redesigning. Hardly any of the threads are getting hits.

The GPG is our most effective way of promoting the various fundraising activities to save the BEES. The simple fact

Will you put it to a poll at least?

Thanks

How did you arrive at these conclusions?

Banana - Through experiences of the last couple of years and by looking at the thread hits on the seperate forum.

As a compromise, why don`t you simply remove the Stickys when the event passes or limit it to six per forum.
