It’s well documented that white collar crime is used by OCGs to fund other illegal activities such as drug and people smuggling and terrorism. So wouldn’t be that much of a leap to assume OCGs are in on illegal streaming if you can make millions. Story here about how tax fraud in Italy was found to have funded Bin Laden when US SEALs finally got to him.

bloody hell mate chill out!! i was just answering his question.
And I was just asking questions about some of your answers as I'm not entirely convinced the reasons that have been trotted out actually stand up to scrutiny. Easy tiger :-)

All his US and Saudi money must have run out by then ?‍♂️

OK. To take each in turn
1) Cos it funds worse illegal activities. Examples already cited above.
2) Cos you may not know how to. No argument offered but certain people wont.
3) Cos you are worried about getting ripped off. The article says details are sold on to bad guys. Its not for Xmas card lists
4) Viruses - Indian Bee asked about streaming. He didn't ask about these particular fellows or their business models. My point stands for random streaming off the internet.

You can never have too much money for terrorism. All sources are welcome.
Well, if they’re getting money/weapons from our government, then we’re already contributing, so I’ll take an IPTV stick,a couple of hundred quids worth of tobacco, and an ounce of squidgy black, please

Like most reactions, it’s difficult to form a comparison without having sat through both trials, heard all the evidence and the judges’ summaries.
I don't disagree but when one action has taken another person's life, compared to something that notwithstanding some of the other points above re: links to criminality etc doesn't really harm anyone at all, it does risk making the law look like, to coin a phrase, a bit of an arse.

But what if you were in a distant land Far, far away from civilisation. Say, Isle of Wight. Or Bracknell. Somewhere like that. And you had no chance of getting to a game to get your footy fix whatsoever. Even less chance now Scummers have been relegated. If the options were £20 or just don't watch Brentford, would you rather give up this fine form of entertainment? God things get so desperate here sometimes I'd pay £20 to watch the Teletubbies if they dressed them in red and white and gave them a beach ball.
Then i wouldn't watch it. Each to their own i suppose.

Without hearing the details of the trial and the judge’s summing up, I don’t know if no one was harmed…

I read an article that the PL are looking into making their own app that you could subscribe to and watch every game...
Can't remember if it was for every match or pay per match...

Found link actually...

The "? criminals making money for more crime?" stuff on this thread is hilarious.
Plenty of "legitimate" companies make a lot of money by doing illegal things.
Plenty of people commit crimes to put food on the table and roof above the head.

Nice roof and even nicer food with £7m!

Viaplay in Finland have the rights to lots of sports including e.g. PL (every match!), EFL, German, Dutch, Scottish leagues. F1, moto GP, NHL, FIS, UFC, various golf tournaments, etc. Also some other channels (Cmore, for example) have rights for LaLiga, Serie A, Champions league, NFL, IIHF, and so on.

The Viaplay Total subscription (including also series and movies they offer) is 44,99 € a month, and that is the only way to get the sports they are broadcasting. Personally, I think their price is too high. I only watch English football and some UFC. I know they have no intention to change their pricing which is ridiculous as it would be easy to just pick what different sports I want, and price them accordingly. I paid under 30 € a month just couple of years ago, and then they bought the rights to F1 and some others, and the pricing went up some 50 %.

I cancelled my subscription couple of days ago as I decided I am not paying for nothing in the summer. Not sure if I go back in August even if there is no other way to legally watch Brentford matches. It is not about money but principle, I hate when I must pay for something I do not need or want. I also have a friend who have told me several times that he can get me every stream in the world if I wanted. Not sure what is the price for that illegal service but I really do not want to watch my football from some suspicious link.

Far more questions than answers in all the speculation around an official EPL streaming platform. People seem to think that for £10-£20 per month they will be able to stream games without limits on their phones, tablets and TVs. They won't. The price will be what the Premier League thinks it can get away with and will be more in line with the current offers (including day passes). The offer will be limited - you will not be able to access your account simultaneously on multiple devices (to prevent account sharing) which will be more of a pain than you think. (Many overseas provider limit access to 2 registered devices). Kick off times will be staggered to maximise advertising revenue - so 3pm Saturday will be the exception rather than the norm. Of course this all depends on Sky in particular giving up the product that pretty much keeps their whole service going. Too much at stake in my view for such a neat solution to be delivered anytime soon...but the pressure is definitely building. First step in my view is likely to be the removal of the 3pm backout and those games being sold to the highest bidder.

Viaplay changed their rules recently, and allows streaming to only one device at a time. Huge outcry.

The bottom line is that Sky and BT sport, charge so much to pay players wages!
Players suck the vast majority of money out of the game, but just like every watchdog or ombudsman, nothing is done, because it's only the fans that are affected, where are FIFA or UEFA or the premier League or the FA, they are clearly not bothered as they're lining their pockets. You are just supporters, you are not worth consideration.

You're right about wages, but if people were that bothered it could be curtailed. Cancel their sports subscriptions and stop going to games. Sky and BT are no mugs, as they know enough people will pay up.

And if you said to Brentford fans five years ago, it will cost fifty quid to go and watch them, how many would have said 'I'm not paying that!' yet are now paying it? And many fans who followed the club for years and wouldn't pay it have been replaced with tourists who are happy to cough up.

The PL is a good, but expensive product to fund. All about money. There's a good reason why attendances in non league have increased massively, as many feel it is real football at an affordable price.

I got my 80 year old grandad a stick, he cant get out the house and there is no way he could afford to watch his team any other way. He has to worry about making it to the toilet these days so whats he got to lose? now he can watch them every single week and he is so happy with it.

Be nice if the government offered a free tv service to the elderley as its them i feel for.

If you can work earn to your means afford sky then great, my sky subscription is crazy £100+ a month but luckily i can afford it.

The worrying thing for them is how good these services are these days, and the problem wont go away itll constantly evolve.

A lot of fans expect a chairman to spend hundreds of millions to strengthen a squad, then moan that player's are paid too much!
It would be interesting to know what percentage of Brentford's turnover and profit goes to player's and agents.
It would also be interesting to know how much a club like Man U are paying in wages for player's they no longer want, but can't get rid of, because they are paying them too much.

I don't think €45 a month for every sport under the sun is that bad esp if it doesn't come with compulsory extras like sky entertainment and all that that bump the price up

It's disgraceful the whole thing tbh,

Here in Australia I can sign up to Optus sport and watch every single premier league game live, or on demand for effectively 13 pounds per month. I can do this on my TV or Laptop. What's really sad is, since leaving England for Singapore/Australia, I see far more football than I did when I was in England and for about 10% of the cost. If that doesn't say somethings broken in England I don't know what does.

Cheeky tip if you're even slightly internet confident, a VPN is your friend.

I pay a fortune for Sky Q and Sky Sports. I'm a happy customer though. The box is great, the punditry is the best there is on offer, and the UHD picture quality is frankly stunning.

But when a Brentford away game is sold out, it's not televised, and "Michael from Nairobi" is able to legally watch it, there's no way I'm going to settle for watching the scores pop up on teletext!

It's absurd that you think it's absurd that they made £7m illegally - and shouldn't be sentenced to a few years inside.
This, in a nutshell. Because when you strip it back, they've made millions of pounds by selling something illegal to the public. And presumably also committed tax fraud in the process. You have to come down hard on those sorts of crimes otherwise it becomes the wildwest.

It shouldn't be conflated with the debate around the 3pm blackout or the cost of streaming services.

A free tv licence only if they receive pension credit. Realistically that means they are virtually destitute and certainly unable to pay for streaming. Other pensioners living on the state pension without pension credit get no help.

Correct it’s not a victimless crime
I remember when I was about 18 went to a flea market in Hull and this traveller lady was selling illegal boxing videos of travellers fighting. They were brutal and also very funny perfect for a pre loading session on a Friday with mates.

After a few weeks I approached her and asked if she had anything a bit more adult…..(porn)…

She said come back next week and I’ll have something for you. Returned a week later presented with a video titled rock the caravan and she said I hope you like it Mr…

Took it home and started watching it was her this 50 year old traveller lady having sex with a teenage boy!!!!!

As I say this type of thing is not victimless crime :(
