will someone please tell me how reading got their hands on butler, cureton and forster? noadsey is actual poo when it comes to finding a quality striker. dosent he see that u need more than a big fast striker, u need the goal scoring touch,jon madjeki must be a lot more clued up than noadsy.

exactly, ron has all the money to take us to div 1 but he dosent use it, he waits for a bargain. surely if he seriously wanted promotion hed put more money into the team, and forget about crystal palace.

I think that it is very unfair to expect him to continue spending out.

We are daft if we feel that we should be spending the same as a club like Reading when our income is so much lower.

The point I was making that it is ridiculous that we should be trying to buy promotion in that way when the opposition has such an advantage on us in this area. We can't do it!!!

Ron has money and you have decided that he has a duty to spend it on Brentford. He has already put millions in, but it isn't enough for you. If you seriously think Ron doesn't want promotion, you should stop taking the funny pills. And Crystal Palace? Evryone's forgotten about Crystal Palace - including Ron.

I think most of rons principles are pretty sound re the type of players he buys and the age etc.The problem for me is that I do not believe that a lot of the players we bring in are up to the standard that we all want them to be.
Mark mac was another such gamble, we chased lorenzo for ages and he wanted brighton but we faught for him!..whos decision was it to spend months convincing him, who was watching him cos the seagulls fans said he was crap.We seem to buy players in real life like I do in championship manager and all mine turn out to be crap to.
We have brought another 6 players in this season and only 1 is a first teamer.We are again looking at another 3-4 players according to various sources to take it to a squad of 40.What disapoints me so much is we need a certain type of player and every week we buy another 2 players who go into the reserves and we get all excited about a new forward only to find out he is only 10 years old and one for the future.
I would rather see us stop buying and either wait for the current lot to mature or leave.We all know that about 10 players that have come in have been built up as a afuture star but realistically only about 2-3 will make it.It is time to take a chance on who will make it and who should go before we take on another 4-5 unknows.I think it is the constant anti climax of a new signing disappearing into the "black hole" at GP only to be a future star we never see.

Also, before I go.. we have missed out on about 4-5 top quality strikers and opted for 15 unknows instead, I would rather we had paid 1.7 million for butler and cureton and left lorenzo, mark Mac, and another 10 unknowns where they were...sure, great potential, but potential alone gets you relegated and I want promotion!!

Can you honestly say it is money well spent MccCammon was £300,000 Cureton £250,000 who would you rather have ?

I certainly would not want to see Ron pay silly wages for a playerjust to get promotion. If he walked out on the club we would then have a high wage bill with no one to bankroll it.
A bit like the fulham scenario. If Al Fayed gets deported or buggers off back to Egypt then fulham are in big sh*t. Players with no sell on value earning high wages

Ray Lew on club call sounded down beat.His conversation was almost like that of a manager whos team is fighting to stay up aleady.Hes frustrated at not getting a proven scorer,but doubted if many players would be attracted to GP.Almost as if we can only sign crap that no one else wants

From what I've seen Lorenzo has done much better this season than Mark Mc and has only played a few games. He has better ball control, better shooting, better positional awareness and more accurate passing ability. If you asked me whether to play Mark Mc or Lorenzo, I'd say the man from del monte wins hands down.

It's a worrying point that Lloyd is still the best striker at the club and we've meant to have strengthened that department.

Lorenzo and Mac should play much more closely together as between them they are big and ugly enough to frighten defences if they want to. Certainly this is the only way for them to play if we are going to try to be direct. It would also mean that there would be tow people fighting to get the ball when the midfield/wings do manage to get foward and cross it.

Unfortunately after a bright first few minutes of pretty much any match since Del Boy got injured every opposition team has quickly worked out that we won't score unless they make a fairly glaring error. This means that we can get sterile draws against bad teams and get thumped by any team adventurous enough to exploit the lack of pace at the back.

Things may look grim at the moment but I would'nt want us to do the same as Reading and spend on the basis we will go up. Reading's strategy is high risk, if they don't go up they will be in big debt, rather like Palace under Goldberg who did just that. Can't see Ron doing this anyway.

I agree that Cureton will score more than Mac this season but it is unfair to say thet he and Javary are "mediocre" finchbee.
They are going to need time and we must be patient before we judge them.

It is not necessarily buying on the basis that we will go up. It should buying on the basis that we are trying to build a team. At the moment I believe we need to buy a striker to stay up. Compare Cureton and McCammon. Mc is going to cost us £ 300,000 and Cureton Cost £ 250,000. This makes Mc the more expensive buy. If Curetons wages are £ 1,000 a week more he is still the same price over a year. Lets also take a look at the quality, Mc Maybe a good player but he has scored 1 goal in 8 games whereas Cureton has scored 7 in 8 games. Who is the better striker ? The real truth of the matter is that we need to look at the players we are buying as we are buying players without proven records.

We have bought about 15-20 players over the last year who are considered "potential".
Who is making these decisions?, who says when they deserve a first team chance?
Why is it that the lovetts of this world join the club, go straight into the first team for 3 games then disapear into the black hole of the stiffs and we are fed the line they are 2-3 off and are good potential.
Well...when we first sign them as potential future stars.. Why is it they go straight into the first team for 2-3 games first. That says to me that we have misjudged the player and we thought he was good enough, but we now know he isn't therefore we call him potential.This has happened over and over!!!

as for RL on clubcall, he was very critical of marshall giving goals away and basic errors, slagged off the attitude of players giving up and not doing what they are told and picked Rowlands out for a particular slating saying that he put on his injury cos he didn't want to play anymore versus reading on saturday and came off.it was no more than a kick and our players need to grow up and start acting like men and get on with it!!

Although I agree with Finchbee's assertion that Cureton IS a better striker than Mac, it seems a bit silly to say 'he's scored 7 in 8, Mac's scored 1 in 8'...Strikers should be judged over a season - Mac might score 10 in 10 in April (don't laugh) as Cureton goes through a lean spell.

And on the wages front, Cureton, I imagine is being paid more than £1000 more per week than Mac. Why? Because another of our targets, Martin Butler, signed for Reading on a £1m transfer fee and £4,000 per week wages. For someone unproven above div 2 that is a hell of a lot of money (£200k annually) and while I wish Cureton was at GP, I am not going to go on at Ron about not spending enormous amounts on wages.

Div 2 is strong enough to spend a hell of a lot of money and not go up. It may make for a depressing season, but in the long run we can't afford to take those risks and I support Noades in that principal.

Strong words from RL indeed, do I sense a crisis of confidence emerging and maybe problems with team moral?...Evo's words on teamlies is in the same vein that some players are just not pulling their weight, maybe there will be more transfer activity in the near future than we think.

Millwall have just taken on Sam Parkinson a 19 year old striker from Chelsea on a month´s loan.And we´re looking at C.G who couldn´t score on loan at Yeovil!.
There´s something wrong somewhere!!!!

I think Sam Parkinson will be looking for a grand a week and C.G will be happy with a couple of hundred.

mark mc vs cureton !!! mark will hopefully be good (if the midfield actually give him a decent cross), and cureton is the tits at this level - bloomin great. but the argument of transfer fees plus wages is blown out of the water if we consider FREE transfers such as the likes gabiadini and forester

Just a little comment on this strikers thing. I reckon that Cureton is a better goalscorer than McCammon, but this doesn't make him a better striker.
McCammon looks to me like a more Alan Shearer type of player who holds the ball up and can probably score goals from crosses. However, we do not play like Newcastle with wingers and are more direct through the middle so maybe its the tactics that need to change!

Are you sure? Even to compare the two is a pointless excercise.
McCammons hold up play ain't bad but his heading seems to be quite poor so I don't see him doing much from crosses.

Lets give the Scott/ Mc partnership another chance. After the Millwall game it looks worth a go. The combination of pace and power with a left and right footed attackers had the Millwall defence shaky, if ethey can be backed up by the type of midfield display we saw as well then we may have something!!

Mc still has to really show his worth, he looks like he might have the potential but he has'nt proved it yet.
