Summer 2016 Transfer Window

It's pretty much nailed on that we're staying where we are now. Forget about temporary fixes etc.

Who do we sell/loan out?
Who do we buy/loan in?

Phil Giles has emphasised the importance of lower league English players in his recent interviews so we can expect to know of a few of our summer signings.

So I'd go in for Romaine Sawyers on a free to replace Judge.

Buy Swift if we can get him on a cut-price deal. If not maybe Conor Hourihane from Barnsley.

A proper enforcer/someone to pick the ball up from the GK and start attacks - I know we looked at Simon Piesinger and Holzhauser from Austria before I've no idea who we'd get from England. Maybe Price from Wolves, they don't pick him but do much better when he plays.

A right sided centre back to replace Tarkowski. Loan JO'C out.

A goalkeeper. I think Button might leave and in any case I'd sell Bonham. Perhaps Archer at Millwall or just a loanee if we keep Button.

Striker - I'd sell Vibe. Hogan probably won't ever get to where he was before. I'd get 1 or 2 in - one of them potentially Djuricin. The other - I'd take Gregory at Millwall or Dominic Samuel from Reading (on loan at Gillingham atm).

I'm not sure about Gregory, very game and brave, he's not a natural finisher and seems to lack pace, if that is the case he'll struggle at this level?

Sawyers seems like a good option as different to anything we have and a big unit if not aggressive, I'd like to see two new forwards including one real quicky!

I think o'brien from Milwall would be good I know his goal ratio isn't good but millwall fans I know think he's a good prospect

I think we should make a big effort with Swift. He is maturing so fast. When he develops his defensive skills he is going to be one class player. I cannot see him getting into the Chelsea team but rest assured there will be a queue for his services.

I didn't see anything in Sawyers that made me think he could do anything for us, certainly not replace Judge. We definitely need another three attacking midfielders, though, so maybe Swift is a possible for one of them, maybe Macleod will come good for another.
We certainly need a proper defensive midfielder. We've been connected with quite a few, from Mokotjo last summer to Ole Selnæs more recently, so I'd fully expect us to land one. Tom Naylor, currently at Burton, might be worth a look.
We need a right-sided centre back but the primary attribute must be speed! We've had so many slow defenders and and must have a bit of pace, surely?
Who knows with strikers... it's always decent gamble as developing a good one will make us millions.
Keeping Button is a real must!

Re : Strikers I liked our policy in summer 14/15 where we went lower league for Hogan a prolific scorer in League 2 and Gray a prolific scorer in the conference. Young hungry goal happy players but raw talents.
If we fish from that pond again, Simpson 27 years old from Orient a year to run on his contract, Paddy Madden 25 years old at Scunthorpe failed in the Championship at a poor Yeovil side but scoring again for Scunny out of contract in the summer? Taylor from Bristol Rovers, these are the kind of gambles that we proved excellent at previously with Clayton and Andre. They may not look like any of them fit our style at present but we've already proved with Donaldson and Gray they quickly adapted.

If Josh McE cost £750k odd then surely Swift wouldn't be more than £500k considering he is unlikely to play for Chelsea? Like everyone else I hope for at least one strong midfielder and a decent striker. Not arsed if they come from Div 1 or from Belgian league 2.

I'm not saying Sawyers is the be all and end all and he certainly isn't a replacement for Judge. He's matured and grown from a skinny talented kid into a big but graceful footballer who mixes things up, can carry the ball and gets shots off. If he's out of contract he gives an option we don't have and is highly rated so it's a yes from me. Will he be the new Jota or Judge, very unlikely but he's no KK either!

Top of my list is that strong, combative, experienced, influential, inspirational midfielder and a big, quick handful up front with Bjelland and Hogan to become the stars we expected.

Re Swift it also depends on his agents demands re salary I guess. I doubt we'll break the bank for a kid.

Dare suggest anyone from abroad... you might get shot down.

I hope not. People must surely realise that along with every other club in the Championship, we will need to look beyond England for players.

Brad Inman from Crewe would be decent.

Summer 2016 Transfer Window

I suspect we already have deals in place. We can't wait til the summer hoping to meet our needs. I'm wondering why there aren't whispers leaking out so maybe I'm wrong :D

Summer 2016 Transfer Window

If no-one leaves, apart from Swift, Canos and Djuricin returning to their clubs, and that Bjelland, Hogan and Macleod are fit, I would see priorities as:

Strong defensive midfielder
Forward who can play the lone striker role
2 wide players
Cover at left-back

Of course. But we clearly got the balance wrong last summer. I expect for every overseas player we bring in there'll be at least one British-based signing.

Re Lee Gregory I think the time to take him would've been from Halifax. He'd cost too much now and hardly set the Championship alight last season.

I hereby pledge to only start reading this thread after midsummer day and use the time saved to end world hunger.

We've tried very hard to sign him and this season has proved he's a class player; good validation of our scouting. Unfortunately, he's also now attracted a lot of attention and said he wants European football, so now he may be out of our price range.

He's also 5ft 7ins according to Wiki.

...............snipers????.............

Pair of Germans called Hechler and Koch are apparently close to signing pre contracts.

No doubt I will be shot down by those ITK though

I understand we are looking at Tommy and Bren from a lower league side as well.

There are a few hecklers and cocks on here sometimes.

True, but wisdom on the GPG suggests we need a tall player with some presence to balance out the midfield.

I think we need a strong defensive midfielder. In my view that doesn't necessarily mean tall. Terry Hurlock was only 5'9 - both ways though. ;)

I think potentially both Ryan and Josh might "bulk up" a bit over coming years (Paul Evans was little but strong too). Jordan Rhodes was pretty slender when we had him - he's a beast now.

Summer 2016 Transfer Window

I'd like to see two strong defensive midfielders - it's always good to have cover for a position and it would allow DS to shuffle things around depending on the opposition - Woods & McEachran when we aren't expecting a physical battle, 1 DM + Woods/McEachran most of the time and our two thugs when we are facing the same.

About time Alsop got mentioned on this thread.

Whilst I feel a bit out of touch out here in Western Australia as to who is the Bees Knees over there, when it comes to our never ending search for talent, as I have mentioned previously there is some really great talent over here in Oz that appears to slip under the UK radar.
There is a striker (I mean a real one) that plays for Melbourne City. His name is Bruno Fornaroli, and can he score goals - 17 in his last 19 games. He is a better holder back and turn player than Andre ever was, and when he turns his defender he knows what to do with the ball, he also can score great goals with his head and even does Rebona's on the run. Aaron Mooy, whose talents I have attempted to promote previously, would be a great replacement for Alan Judge should we lose him in the summer, and there is a really promising young full back, Jason Geria who plays for Melbourne Victory. So come on Brentford stay ahead of the pack and send a scout over here to have a look. He can also enjoy the sunshine while he is here as the silly buggers play their football here in the middle of the summer!!!

Isn't he a judge on Strictly Coming Dancing?

I wonder if permits would be problematic though.

I watched the striker in a game the other week - he looked streets ahead of anyone else on the pitch. Uruguayan though so probably not an option. I'd also add that the defending left an awful lot to be desired.
