Fair point Nick.
Incidentally I might be at ColU.
Let you know.

One point on the above. All these people banging on about we want at 25k stadium not a Sixfields or Adams Park or Bescot.
How the **** are we gonna fill it?

Brentford is not a BIG club.
It MAY have potential with the correct marketing but other clubs of an equal size have tried and failed.

Let's survive Noades first and see where we stand ok.

p.s. Not many fans would have put up with so much mismanagement and financial irregularities and stayed loyal.
Hats off to the LOYAL Bees and not the ponces apertaining to be Bees fans.

Not with me as I've been to games like 'uddersfield away and will go to Oldham away both Tuesday nighters but jeez, Xmas, what sh*te timing to have Tranny away. No way could I get there which was a big shame as that's one ground that I still haven't been to !

just think its weird when people are quick to critisise players but not so quick to do their bit.not a dig at anyone in particular just an observation

I went to this game as I made it a weekender with a few pals and had a bloody good nite out in pool'. However for people who are not single like meself and have kids etc to consider I can see how a journey up the M6 (which took me 6 hours on the way up there thus missing the first half !) and then the trip back would be less than tempting considering the weather/time of year etc etc etc.

I do agree it was a slightly disappointing turn out but can understand why we were a few hundred (tops) short of what I would have expected.

fair point gabs, but there are many people like me who are married(11 years eek)and have children(daughter 19 months)WHO CAN MAKE IT,so not much of an excuse really.i don't see how we can take more to uddersfield on a tues night than we take to tranmere on a sat.my point is really, that some people are too quick to start saying"oooh lets drop the highest scoring midfielder in the league"but not quite so kken to do their bit

I wasn't there for a number of reasons, such as the timing of the game and lack of funds but I dare say that if some of the players hadn't rolled over so pathetically on boxing day then the away attendance would have been higher.

If I had been planning to go to Tranmere then I may well have had to think about whether or not it was worth it after witnessing the rubbish that was served up against Cambridge.

I also think that it's the players who owe the fans and not the other way round.

so you only go when we are playing well, how very loyal of you!its a good job there are a few hundred that go and support their team no matter what the circumstances.being a fan means supporting your side through thick and thin.if you are only going to watch us away when we are playing well then don't bother.anyway by your glory hunting rules then you should have gone because we were top.i'll say it again, taking less than 300 when you are top despite being in a division with mucn bigger and better supported clubs is pants.oh your comment about the players owing us,how the fek do you work that out.they have performed a minor miracle to get us where we are and we repay them by taking a support like that when we are top of the league.and before you go there i think our away support is normally very good, but in this instance a disgrace.

I actually got to my seat via the players tunnel at Tranmere (due to being late and the away end gates being shut) and when I turned toward the Bees fans it has to be said it was a less than inspiring site that would have greeted the players when they trotted out for the second half.

However as I said above it was only a couple of hundred less than could have been expected for the game considering all the factors.

You have no idea what games I have and haven't been to so can can you lecture me about being a glory hunter? I may not travel as well as some but I travel better than most. I don't only go to long distance away games when we are playing well, but at Cambridge, I wasted my time and money.

Those who play for Brentford get paid to pay football for god's sake. They may not get paid as much as Premieshit stars, but nonetheless they get paid to play football for a club that I love, so when they are given the privelege of pulling on the shirt I expect a certain standard.

How you can accuse any Brentford fan of glory hunting is beyond me. Ive been in sub 200 away crowds at places like Bury and Wrexham so I take it as somewhat of an insult to be called a glory hunter.

Under 300 to Tranmere is dissapointing but doesn't surprise me given the timing of the game etc..

Agree with your sentiments Nick. Work commitmants kept me away, i have to miss approx 1 in 3 games. I reckon its the younger lot who let us down, when i was a lad.......

i didn't want to insult anyone in particular, just pointing out that the away support was terrible that day and the players deserve better.a bad result at cambridge shouldn't mean that no one goes to the next away game.the team are punching above their weight and we are more likely to get what we all want if the support can do their bit.guildford bee says we should expect a certain standard from the team, well by the same token the team deserve better followings when they are top.also my own opinion is that if you go to away games it shouldn't make any difference where the team is in the table or how they are playing, you should go anyway otherwise if people only go when we are top and playing well then that is being a glory hunter isn't it?if thats just me being old fashioned then i apologise but its something i feel very stongly about.we cannot expect us to be a first division side on mid table second division support.we have a great chance this year if we all pull together.i dread to think where we may be this time next year if we dont.

Theres two sides to this.

Obviously we are more likely to put up better performances if we have better support away from home but at the end of the day where we are next season is down to cash. If we go bust it is because we dont get enough people through our own turnstiles not because a few people didnt do a 500 mile round trip 4 days after Christmas.

Never mind about how many people went to Tranmere, more to the point what are we going to do to get another 3000 people through the home turnstiles every week so we can break even without selling the whole damn squad.

Do you buy a programme every week, do you buy a home shirt and an away shirt etc etc.Have you got a season ticket? More to the point do you support your OWN club financially.

Supporting the team and supporting the club. Which is more important??

Totally agree. It did not matter that it was Xmas I was going to go to Tranny as the ground holds plenty of memories.

But after witnessing the crap that I saw at Cambridge, I decided not go through no other reason than disgust at the way the team performed vs a bottom of the league side.

I will be at Port Vale however

buy a season ticket
buy club merchandise for you or your nipper(s)
have a beer or two and something to eat in the ground for a change
buy a programme
join bees united
and bias
buy a jackpot ticket

Interesting post Nick. Am I loyal?

Age 36
Married with a 5 month old son
Supported the Bees for 24 years (1st game 2/1/78)
Attend most home games and have done throughout 'my time' but I've only bought a season ticket 3 times.
Used to go to 10-15 aways per season but this has reduced gradually over the last 4/5 years (I've only been to Newcastle & Reading this season so far).
Never buy a programme (haven't done for about 12 years)
Usually have a drink before home games in the Brickies (don't you require some sort of paid membership to drink in the ground (Stripes bar?))

I tend to work fairly long hours throughout much of the week so weekends are precious. Family comes first and I make sure I get some quality time with my son (Oh and the missus as well!) at the weekend. So therefore, away games are few. I guess this is the case for many Bees.

I respect those fans who consistently attend the away games but for me that is a thing of the past. I'll probably do a few each season.

A final thought. The playoff final against Crewe and the LDV last season both really saddened me. Not just the results but the attitude of many fans (not really getting behind the team) and the poor turnout at Cardiff. I used to think that Brentford could become a bigger club but I realised after these 2 occasions that this was not the case. This has probably dented my loyalty somewhat.

interesting post roybee.its a dangerous road to go down when discussing what constitutes a loyal fan but you are prob an average supporter.my point is that we all desperately care and worry about the future and i am sure that we all could do a bit more.ie lifeline etc.anyone want to get the ball rolling.i'll start by vowing to renew my lifeline which i let run out and havent got round to renewing(laziness) and also to have at least a couple of beers in the ground(what a hardship).i am sure that if everyone took a look at what more they could reasonably spend they would prob find a few things.also i think they should turn stripes into a bar thats is open all through the week as well as matchdays.(i'll run it for a decent salary peter!!)look at it this way if a thousand people who didn't before start buying the wonderful balti pie and a beer that is a massive increase in revenue.come on lets discuss how we can do more to save our club

I made a weekend of it and i went up from Portsmouth. Mate is a Trannie fan and of course he was loving it - but the night out in Liverpool was mint - Walkabout and Bar Bars was classic!! But the support was poo and the songs sh*te!!
