I posted on here several days ago that we have become very predictable with team selection, the way we play and the subs we make and when we make them. It does not take much for opposing managers to work this out imo, we need options to mix things around. It is also a lot to ask someone who was playing in the conference last season to make the step up and produce the goals (although I am a great fan of Gray he is a WIP). To a certain extent we have surprised a few teams up to now but I think we have become a known quantity and if we are to keep the momentum going we do need to change things around. Unfortunately up front we don't appear to have many viable options atm but like most on here would like to see what Betinho can offer because to be fair Nick has not really produced much as he? There are some major challenges ahead for Warbs that need to be overcome otherwise we will start dropping points to lesser teams who are able to work out how to nullify our play. It would be a real shame but I personally do not want to see tippy tappy football with no end product where other teams with half the talent that we have are set up better tactically to take the points. It is going to be a steep learning curve for Warbs and the next few games will show us what he has in his locker, so yes fully agree with your post!

Interesting to read your post. There aren't many of us who responded to my prompt and think we may need a plan B which is interesting. We have been playing some great stuff but we are new kids on the block and the word will get around about how to play against us. I really do think we need a plan B so that we can vary things during a game if we haven't been able to get our noses in front or have to chase it. The first dozen games is always a benchmark. So far we are mid table. We have a difficult string of games coming up and I hope my concerns are unfounded. We shall see by the end of November.

Good post. Particularly agree about the subs. We all know roughly who they are going to be and when. Its not easy to mix it up though with limited choices and its a pity in a way that as much as I hated it there's not the JPT to give the likes on Betinho a proper run out. Just a thought but instead of bringing on Toums we could push Mac up and bring on Nico late on in a game. When Dallas is back it will help as well as he could offer another option up front.

Guess what this all means to me is it is lucky I am not the manager as I have no idea what to do. Lol

I think that last sentence applies to all that post on here !!!!, it's nice to make comments, give our own opinions and the like, but lets leave the proper work to MW, He knows what he is doing.

I wasn't at Bolton and don't comment on games I've not seen. However I'd be interested to hear views from those who were there. We are at a stage in the season where most teams know what other teams are about and how to play against them. Teams are pressing us high to knock us out of our rhythm and we aren't doing it in the box [ I'm not blaming Gray who IMO is a terrific signing ]. At times we look sublime in the middle third but often there's no end product. So the basic question remains as to whether we need a plan B which isn't simply trying to make plan A work by changing personnel.
IMO we need more variation. I hope I'm wrong but I can see an uphill struggle if things aren't altered. Everything is better at this level and rival managers are very savvy.

I think he will try and refine Plan A by shifting personnel around rather than changing the entire system.

With the injury to Alan Mac maybe 3 at the back would be an option.

IMO not a need to change the entire system but maybe alter things during a game if things aren't working. I can't see that changing personnel if the oppo have sussed us will make any difference. However, that seems to be the approach.

Not so sure as I think Toral for Pritchard and Moses at full back would be a positive step

Toral for Pritchard, New Forward for Alan Mac with Moses going to full back with Andre replacing Moses on the right. But can the forward not be Trotta.

Tactics

I think the problem is we definitely play more 4-5-1 than 4-3-3. Moses and Jota are too wide to properly support Gray who ends up very isolated at times. If we're going to score more, we need to get more bodies into the box. Those wide players need to bust a gut to make the second striker when we're playing down the opposite flank. Perhaps if we played with two anchoring central midfielders, that would help push those wide players further forward, and we could use Judge as a number 10. I think 4-2-3-1 could be an alternative. We also don't seem to press as high as we used to, maybe a bit of tiredness in the last couple of games as we're pretty consistent with our starting line up.

Tactics

Interesting how we see games. IMO they nullified us after the first 25 and we had luck on our side and should have gone in at least one down leaving us to chase the game. How their player hit the crossbar instead of the net was a good bit of luck for us in particular. IMO the second half was pretty even altho I think we maybe edged it but it could have gone either way.

The guy who hit the crossbar was offside and the game was stopped, don't let the facts get in the way though.

Looks like MB wanted this guy to join and seemed like he nearly did.....

That's ac milan set piece coach gianni vio who was recently at fiorentina..nearly came to us before for some bizarre reason chose ac milan! Helped la viola score from 52 set pieces in two seasons no less.

I don't think Warbs is a 4-4-2 man.
Doesn't seem to be as fashionable these days but i like to see wing backs.
We could play all 3 CBs with Jake and Moses as wing backs. Dougie and Mac in front with Judge, Jota and Gray free to run amok
Away from home (particularly) i reckon this could work nicely?

My understanding of 3 centre backs is that it's ok until you come up against a team with 3 across the front. The wing backs get occupied by the wide forwards leaving 3 CBs marking one central striker. The opposition fullbacks then have free rein on the overlap as there is no one to pick them up. i know that's a bit simplistic but it's why you don't see that formation too much. Although I'm sure in its modern guise ito can work - see Luis Van Gaal.
