Team Bookings

In order to stop serial fouling and "sharing of fouls", football could take a leaf out of basketball's approach to the issue.

Get 5 bookings in a match (maybe 4 actually), and it's an automatic penalty to the opposing side.

Genius idea which I will mention to Arsene when I next see him.

It would swing the balance of power, make the players a bit more respectful to the ref and hopefully, help to diminish the cynical side of the game. I agree that the threshold to issue a card would probably rise, however, as the number of yellow cards mounts up. What impact has this had on basketball?

We saw yesterday how Ben Mee’s early yellow stifled his game to some extent. Wouldn’t team bookings stifle whole teams?

I would stop bookings for removing shirts and enforce bookings for challenging the ref. And clamp down on time-wasting by ensuring the time is counted and added accurately rather than the pull-a-number-out-of-the-air method used now.

They need to take a leaf out of rugby, which I can see they're trying to get to, of only the captain speaking to the ref unless asked to.

Players swarming the ref and screaming and shouting in their faces needs to stop, any player doing so should just get a yellow chucked back at them.

Not sure if anyone saw Grealish get booked the other night against Arsenal, wasn't happy with a decision and you could see him shout "Oh f*** off Anthony"..... immediate yellow. Loved it.

It was tried a few seasons ago. Without success.

Trying to construct a general rule to address a specific situation is never going to work.

It's a specific rule about a general situation.

And that's what all the rest of the laws of football are!

Norgaard got one yesterday, as captain and second player over to the ref, after Hickey got clattered on the edge of the box.
