So what wwe thinking?

Only change i can see Smith making is Bjelland for Elder.

I would give Kaika a start if hes ready instead of Clarke.

Agree Bjelland for Elder to counter Ayew threat but think Josh Clarke could be better equipped to deal with Grealish than Kaikai.

If no injuries, i'd start with the same 11 as the Brighton game. They've proven they can soak up pressure away from home. I do appreciate it is a squad game though but think any rotation of places should wait until the Preston game. This should be a bit more straight forward as PNE are on a poor run of form.

Clarke played well Saturday, also every league game he's started we've won so I'd stick with him for now. Kaikai will get his chance soon but not quite yet.

Agree with Bjelland for Elder though.

Bjelland for Elder is probably necessary (if eElder is still injured). Otherwise the choice is between Kaikai and Clarke. I'd go for Kaikai and release MacLeod to play right side (where surely he would be nore at home?).

Agreed. We looked vulnerable while Elder was on so injured or not I would rest him. Clarke did well but sometimes looked like what he is (ie a converted right back) so I would go with KaiKai.

No-one suggesting 5 at the back yet??! I'd be tempted to play Bjelland as a holding midfielder with either Elder or Barbet LB. Most of the rest picks itself but then a choice between Sawyers / Kaikai / Clarke for the one remaining attacking wide player spot. Probably Sawyers for me on the basis of his last performance, then release Kaikai and Clarke at some point in the second half to use their pace against tiring defenders...

Yes I thought Clarke started as a winger and got converted to a defender

I think he'll start on the bench and can come on , either with Hogan or for Hogan depending on the score. This team is so flexible tactically wiht the players we have

I think it will be as you were, except with Barbet in for Elder. I think he would have come on at Brighton had he been on the bench.

I predict that Bjelland will come on at some point again in the second half, perhaps as third centre back in a 5 to give him game time. The comments from Andreas seem to imply he won't do 90 minutes and the comments from Dean Smith point to him being introduced to the team as he's seen as a key player year.

Stick to the same 2nd half team at Brighton, with tactical subs, as and when required.

There is no way Sawyers deserves to be dropped after Saturday! He had a really good game.

Don't change a winning team (unless you're Tommy Doc/ Barry Fry), except for Injury/ tactical reasons. I would expect any walking wounded to report fit for the chance to play at Villa Park, and similarly no need to fiddle with the team set-up after Saturday's success. = No substantial change to the squad.

He's also not a left back, but he can play both positions in addition to centre back. :)

Yes Barbet for elder if elder is not fit looks a solid back 4 with Bjelland playing the holding role in front of the back 4 Happy days cant see villa scoring any goals past that back line come on deano make it happen.

You're perfectly right. Why play probably your best player in a position he's familiar with against one of the best attacks in the division? Why would even conceive making any changes to the team when you're playing against different opposition and you have three games in a week? Why make any changes to a team on such a long winning streak of one? Utter lunacy to even consider using the squad under these circumstances.

I can't see anything wrong with sticking to the starting line up against Brighton but with Bjelland in for Elder. We then have plenty of options off the bench depending on how the game pans out.

And drop one of 2 in the middle who had a cracking game at the weekend??

Why play him in a position hes "familiar" with when we can play 2 lads who "do" play in that position?

Christ I thought it was only me, thankgod you said it Nick, and thankgod that DS is picking the team and not some of the weird, weekly suggestions that come up on this thread. Madness
