Just think Alan Mc wont have the legs for another game even though he was outstanding for us on Tuesday. He was knackered in the 2nd half.

Barbet and Woods in for AB and Mac and I'm happy!

Macca was superb but on balance I'd probably go with this. However I wouldn't be disappointed if Smith decided to keep Macca in.

When we were playing with Woods and McLeod [ McLeod being played wide without pace and out of position] our tempo tended to be slow and a bit Reading like with little penetration. We wereIMO slow at moving the ball forward. For me the big change on tuesday was in mid where we had pace on both flanks and we moved the ball forward far more quickly. Now I rate Woods and McLeod but for me Macca was outstanding and I wouldn't change the mid. That's what happens if you get 5 yellows in 9 games ;)

Bit harsh to drop anyone from Tuesday but I agree, Woods back in for Macca. Macca was excellent the other night but he's nowhere near the same level as Woods. Tough on Macleod but unless there's fitness issues, I don't think DS will take out either Vibe or Clarke. Either way, good selection headache to have and what a strong bench we'll have with Macleod, Macca, Josh M, Kaikai and Barbet in reserve.

Yes Woods is better on the ball and dictates the play better, but i think Macca has great determination and drive that pushes us on. Either way i will be happy.

Of course he might play both and Nico sits it out.

Fortunately one midfield is as good as another at the moment - as long as they don't sit back and go long. Dean Smith's one task is to pick the midfield to start this particular match. A lot will probably depend on what he sees in training.

Thought Macca was excellent on Tuesday but it's Woods straight back for me. If Macca has got over Tuesday and Nico is still carrying an injury perhaps he might drop out instead?

I'd stick to Tuesday's starting XI. Smith's OS interview shows he's happy to let the players ride the momentum of the confidence they've built up and as there's another international break coming up there's less of an issue with conserving player energy. Reports suggest that Wigan, like Reading, aim to play a passing game and so being able to shepherd them into tippy tappy in their own half again would again be a good tactic against a team that is likely to be less dangerous than Reading could have been. It also wouldn't hurt to give McCormack more pitch time as it looks like we're for the first time fortunate to have genuine competition for most positions and an expectation that players will all need to be ready to come in and be fully effective from the off rather than needing a few games to find their feet. Nobody is going to mind so very much if they miss out on a starting spot if they can see that everyone will get opportunities through tactical changes, injuries and suspensions.

I quite like the idea of 4411 and having Vibe supporting Hogan centrally up front as a set up for home games.

Would be happy with same starting eleven providing all are fit

Can understand the Macca/Woods argument but was always led to beleive the jersey was yours until you lose it. As such I would leave Woods on the bench. I genuinely felt that Mac gave the team both momentum and " old pro" experience which are invaluable

Any of you know which of the four corner pubs is best for away fans? Making the trip for the first time.

I think keep it the same other than Barbet for Bjelland as the latter has a lot of games to contend with soon.

Gives us a bench consisting of Macleod, McEachran, Kaikai, Bjelland, Woods + Keeper + 1 other

Woods to be reintroduced second half and keep his place for the rest of the season. Rotation at it's finest.

I agree, Pipe, might also give Woods something to think about regarding his regular yellow cards.

Bentley

Colin (although I might be tempted to play Clarke to prevent a 5th yellow before Newcastle game)
Dean
Egan
Bjelland

Woods
Yennaris

Clarke
Vibe
Sawyers

Hogan

Bench: Bonham, Barbet, McCormack, McGeachran, Saunders, Kai Kai, Macleod

Having said that wouldn't be surprised to see Barbet at left back and our bench lacks a striker so maybe Hoffman instead of Sam?

So he can be replaced with someone who gets a yellow every game without fail? Lol

Agreed. I'm a big fan of Woods, but I honestly don't think a player who played as well as Macca did on Tuesday night should be dropped, unless injured.

Exactly. If anything, there should be more calls for Macleod to come back in than Woods, given Macleod's number of assists so far this season.

But I don't think we should change the starting eleven that won so convincingly on Tuesday, and break up a central midfield pairing that was also very successful at the end of last season.

Also, after seeing Barbet play LB at Wolves, I'd rather have Bjelland there - Barbet may look better in flashes, but his overall positioning and knowledge to play at full-back appeared not quite up to Bjelland's standard.

Fair comment, Macca doesn't deserve to be dropped so happy to see either start although my choice would be Woodsy.

This is getting really difficult now. Good isn't it?

Absolutely. I wouldn't change a winning team but that leaves no starting place for Barnet, MacLeod, Woods, Kaikai, McEachran...That's quite a bench!
Then Judge and Henry to return..

All our options seem to be firing well at the moment, so I might just leave this one to Deano this time. However, if I am to give him the final say on this occasion it might be on condition that he has to include Yennaris. Nico seems to be the only cog in the chain we cannot do without just now.

Yes, it's brilliant and exactly where Phil Giles said he wanted the squad to be just over a year ago. Only goalie and central striker lack direct competition at the moment.

Team for Wigan.

Macca was brilliant Tuesday but Woodsy has IMO been brilliant all season.

Team for Wigan.

Why on earth would you drop sawyers and Vibe after Tuesday?

Yes we are lucky that we have a great squad of players but the team i selected was only my own opinion but i think that would of been the best 11 for yesterdays match and would of given us the best balance between defence and attack.
And with out doubt ryan woods has been our best player all season and i think lewis macleod is a far better player than sawyers and would create more chances for our forwards and offer a better goal threat than sawyers and for me vibe doesn't do enough and seems only any good when playing in the strikers role so i would only use him as back up for hogan.
And after watching yesterdays match i didn't see anything to change my team selection

Team for Wigan.

Sorry just cannot see the logic in your changes, Nico seems a fairly important cig in our success, not flashy but intelligent and covers a lot of ground. Sawyers was excellent Tuesday and Vibe scored 1 and assisted for 2 yet none are in your team

Scratchyheadsmiley
