i dont think he played for the youth team the other night either-i saw him outside a chippie listening to his ipod on the way to roots hall though!

team v forest?

How about drop Newman for Lewis? Gayle starts Tillen and Brooker drop to bence. Frampton moves to left back, Sodje back into the centre. Job done.

That is his best postion and i dont understand why he doesnt play him behind lloyd and dj, he creates so much from that postion

Trying to read MA, I wonder whether he might not switch to 4-5-1 for this game.

It has been I think 11 league games since we kept a clean sheet & the lack of either Pratley or Hutch as attacking central midfielders also forces his hand a little. I would love him to play Tabby in there, but I'm still not convinced MA thinks Tabby can hack it centrally from a defensive standpoint in a 4-4-2. But with both Lewis & Newman providing cover in a 4-5-1, I think MA would be more comfortable with this:

----------Nelson----------

Kev---Sodje-Turner---Frampton

DJ-Lewis-Tabb-Newman-Brooker

---------Owusu----------

Subs: George, Mousinho, Rankin, Tillen, Gayle

Point of order!!

Can we have put a stop to people describing Eddie as an "attacking midfielder". and while i think about it can we also please please please stop saying he should be in the team because of his "aerial ability". just watch him next time (if there is a next time and i hope there is not) that he turns out and try and work out how many headers he wins as opposed to mis-times - and then work out how often they are mis-directed.

yes, i know that he scored against Swansea with a header - but Beckham scored from the half-way line once. doesn't mean he's going to do it all the time does it?

Plenty of attacking options but both DJ and Tillen or Gayle are willing to track back and help out the full backs if required. Personally i would leave out Newman (would prefer Hutch with his legs tied together at the moment  ) and Brooker who is either blatantly unfit or just down right lazy and useless....

actually Gayle at centre mid might work quite well if he given the chance from the start. he can tackle and he can shoot...

good in the air as well, only problem is his engine might not be up to it.

sorted - martin allen can start and give everyone wots wot in the centre of midfield then gayle can come on for him after about 30 minutes

OMG!! I'm so glad none of you are manager!! Gayle in centre midfield???

There are some bizarre selections here. We should stick to 4-4-2 that we know well, we have the personnel to change things round a bit without going over the top, MA will have given them a b***ocking and (I would hope) some of them will be going out there tonight to prove themselves worthy of a red and white shirt...

Gayle puffs his way though 90 minutes on the wing.

Centre midfield  :nono:

he wouldnt be a first choice but if newman needs a rest like it looks then gayle. however i can only see newman and lewis being played there later.

Why does Newman need a rest

He needs a decent partner and, perhaps, a kick up the arse.

he was extremely sluggish vs southend and had to be pulled off. whether that is lazyish or fatigue, i dont know, and nor do you

I didn't think he was any more sluggish against Southend than in any other game.

He doesn't move particularly quickly at any point.

However in previous games he has had someone decent alongside him, Hutchinson was a nonsense on Saturday, Newman wasn't playing well enough to attempt to cover.

With the injuries he is our best central midfield player, you don't drop him.

thats exactally why i mentioned about his engine...but who else have we got??

from what i have read on the OS and other football sites MA (from his own mouth apparently) will be making changes tonight which means its going to be a different formation or a change of personnel.

If its a change of personnel then it will be Tillen, Newman, Hutch and Brooker (if its not this than it was obvious there was gonna be a change with Sodje back and Hutch suspended).

Hopefully MA has given Newman ansd Brooker a good tickin off and they will be up for this game!!! Mind you I havn't seen Brooker up for one game yet!

team v forest?

No matter how upset MA was with Saturday's performance he won't drop players for the sake of it.

Brooker has underperformed for a while and may be left out, while Hutchinson out and Sodje in were obvious chnages.

I wouldn't expect major surgery, we don't have the bodies.

true, i'm changing the team sheet and taking Gayle out and putting Newman back in...

team v forest?

With what is left of our midfield I would pick

Gayle ( let him do an hour's work or so - bring on Tillen)
Tabb
Newman
Brooker ( if fit - then if not Rankine)

Not ideal , but has it been all season ?
Same problem as last year, lack of mobility & creativity in the centre of midfield

Also if you take out Newman as some of the moaners request it has the same affect as when Talbot was missing, nobody to try & tackle, link the play or even lead the team

i think i've got a right to moan (even though i wasn't) after watching that display at the weekend!

but now we should see Newman's true colour and worth (hopefully) shine through tonight, and that will prove why hes captain (again, hopefully)

Brooker does well when he gets on the ball but he doesnt put tackles in, one of the best matches hes had all season was away at stockport and even then martin allen decided to pull him off, why is he still at brentford?

team v forest?

Whatever we say about Newman (and I personally would drop him and put in Lewis) we can only say that we have only lost twice with him in the starting 11.

I like Lewis i think he has improved since we first played him and at the present moment i am not sure it can be any worse than Newman. Still time will tell and at the end of the day the man in the moon can play for all i care so long as we get all 3pts tonight !

Nice to see Martin took my advice on team selection......joking aside , a bit of a relief Lewis kippered himself in training !

Didn't it?

Apart from his early mistake, Big George looked solid the whole match and made some vital saves from a succession of dangerous set-pieces.

Nelson's a good keeper, but competition for the No. 1 shirt will hopefully stop complacency creeping into his game.

Big George ain't great, but he did us proud last night, and in putting a little pressure on Nelson, should help a good keeper develop into a great keeper.
