Team v. Fulham

With Rico possibly out and therefore his recent switch to right back unlikely, it raises a bit of conundrum over who plays right back in the Carabao. Will Henrick be risked and have Dom continue at LB or another option ... Three at the back with Sergi at Right Wing Back or maybe at Right Back and keep the 442?

Team v. Fulham

I expect to see a complete B team out in this one. Preston a much, much bigger game.

Agree especially now they’ve moved the games. Much too close to bother playing any of the big guns.

Looks about right ... Benrahma & Ghoddos 45 mins each though .... dont know what all this B team nonsense is though - we have a 1st team squad of 20plus !

I would think this is close but maybe ghoddos isn’t easy to start yet and Benrahma will be given a start. Dervisoglu will be on the bench one would think maybe instead of Mbeumo

don’t start any of the players who will start on Saturday nor the 3 subs that will most likely be needed on Saturday.

then you can can have the other 7 plus the rest made up of b team nonsense.

Disagree with putting the B team out. What was the point of getting through to the last 16? We're only 3 games into the season. If we don't beat Preston, it's not the end of the world. FFS.

Particularly when half of them have been isolating. They’d get little from the experience and neither would the club.

Yep, there is a difference between our B team and the squad's fringe players. It is the latter that have been playing in the EFL cup with supplementation by the first team. I would expect that to continue for this game.

Er....... It's that same number of days between the games. Preston has been moved to Sunday

A chance of our first quarter final for over 30 years and our first ever in the league cup and people want a full b team ?

Team v. Fulham

There’s a QF place and a small degree of revenge against a local rival at stake!

Mickey Mouse cup, Fulham will put reserve teams out.

We have a much, much bigger game at the weekend.

It's not 'much bigger'. It's the 4th league game of the season. Normally the LC is pointless for us, but chance of a QF here - first time ever in this competition.

Look, TF has approximately 20 first team players at his disposal, before he has to delve into the B team. He is paid well to use all of his first team resources. It's conceivable he can put out two very competitive teams on both Thursday and Sunday.

We picked a 2nd XI v. Leicester last season, then promptly lost to Forest the next game anyway with our best XI. To coin a well-worn cliche, let's just take each game as it comes, and try and win the first one to start with!

I think TF will stick with his League Cup rotational squad. A cursory look at our average League Cup XI (with Raya instead of Daniels and Henry not involved) reads something like:

Raya
Dalsgaard, Goode, Sorensen, Thompson
Marcondes, Norgaard, Baptiste
Fosu, Forss, Canos

Would think Jensen is a certainty to start, instead of Marcondes.

I’m licking my lips at seeing Ghoddos, Mbuemo Benrahma at the front. Rico being out could help the coaches experiment at the back, but I want strength ( Norgaard) in the middle. Let’s play a B team when we’ve dumped Fulham out. No easy task, but let’s give it a go.

Fair enough.

Not sure how serious we will take it though.

It's only Fulham FFS. Put the Vets out. Wanderer, Logan, Nana get your boots on......

Team v. Fulham

I think we could do with putting out a fairly strong team as we're still trying to get things to click.. Henry injury forces TFs hand on RB. Hopefully Ghoddos' international clearance will have come through so he can get some minutes

Raya, Dalsgaard, Goode, Pinnock, Thompson, Baptiste, Jensen, Marcondes, Ghoddos, Forss, Benhrama.

Would be good to see Ghoddos but may be a bit early for him

I can't recall exactly but there might be a ruling about not being able to play a player who we signed between rounds.

Normally it only applies to a new player being signed between the original match and a replay and I certainly haven't heard of a restriction being applied to a player signed between rounds - it sounds far too draconian.

Team v. Fulham

Raya
Dalsgaard Goode Pinnock Thompson
Norgaard
Jensen Baptiste
Mbeumo Toney Ghoddos

To explain some of my choices:

- I would play Henry if fit but don't want to take any chances if not 100% so Thompson gets another go.
- Jensen and Baptiste were the two CMs that didn't start against Millwall, and both need minutes.
- That front three need as many minutes playing together as possible even if it's harsh on MF and HD not to give them a go.

Team v. Fulham

This EFL cup run is a potential Godsend if used right. Players need game time and this competition gives just that opportunity. A chance to view all the squad players, give them experience and fitness, ready to jump in when needed when others get injured or suspended. I wouldn't like to bring in a player second week in December who hasn't played a single game and neither do I want to keep swapping the 'first team' unless necessary, to give the squad game time. Also, as was pointed out earlier, we played a much changed team against Leicester, lost and then lost to Forest. Use the squad, play a strong team and lets try and do well in the EFL cup, enjoying all the benefits it brings.

If we win on Thursday we’ll be in the QFs, the furthest we’ll have ever got in the League Cup. We’re a bit thin on FBs and CDMs so may need to play players we’d prefer to save but otherwise have strength in depth so don’t need to worry too much about impact on league matches.

Team v. Fulham

Is 4-2-4 totally out of favour nowadays? It seems that speed and fluidity is the key, whatever pressing formation you choose. I’m not ashamed to admit I never took a lot of notice in the past, in the same way that a lot musicians don’t learn scales properly.

Team v. Fulham

Interesting people are picking Thompson when ( assuming Rico is still injured) he is our first choice left back at the moment. Lewis Gordon is raw but has impressed for the B Team, could be his opportunity.

Team v. Fulham

I expect to see a complete B team out in this one. Preston a much, much bigger game.

The B-team have only just come back in after two weeks’ isolation so there’s zero chance of them playing.

Also, win this and we don’t need to worry about the League Cup again until Christmas. And we’d be in the QFs.

We’ve put out mixed XIs so far and I expect the same again:

Let’s end Fulham’s season.

Well, it looks as though Villa are doing that. Not impressed that Ollie hasn't scuffed one in yet though.

Team v. Fulham

Let’s end Fulham’s season.

Now I'm worried they'll have to concentrate on the Cup and put out a strong side. Ah b***ocks, I reckon our ladies' team could beat them.

Team v. Fulham

I think quite the opposite. The manager needs a premier league win, they will play a b team
Given their woes at CB it’ll be particularly nice to beat them playing Goode and Sorensen.

Team v. Fulham

Parker is on a loser whatever he does. He has lost the first three league games and losing can become a habit. Their next three games are Wolves away, Sheffield away and Palace at home. He needs a win to boost morale. Reckon he will go with a fairly strong squad don’t see he has much option. A win against us (no matter how unlikely) would give the troops some hope. Do not think it will be a full strength team (just in case they lose he can at least say well it wasn’t our full first team) but reckon at least half strength with several more on the bench... If they were to lose 3 - 0 or the like they are deep in the proverbial with less than one month of the season gone

A problem might be that he won't play Mitrovic and they look a much better team without him because they actually have to try to play rather than just lump it forward to the Serbian thug.
