Tough 3 games in a week so we probably need to think a bit about rotation over the week . Usually would suggest bringing in Mokotjo for an away game but with the way we played last week and the big open spaces at Wed I think we should keep Jensen in on Sat and perhaps bring in Mokotjo for the Cardiff game where we'll need a little more physicality, keeping Jensen fresh for the Fulham game. Otherwise we don't have a lot to shuffle with. Just hope we can be doing well enough to give key players a break towards the end of games.

Raya, Dalsgaard, Jansson, Pinnock, Henry, Norgaard, DaSilva, Jensen, Benrahma, Watkins, Mbuemo.

Subs: Daniels, Thompson, Jeanvier (is he back?), Mokotjo, Zamburek, Roerslev, Oksanen

That's how I see it too.

Didn't see the Blackburn game but guess the lesson from there was don't try to much squad rotation. Hope we can keep Kamo happy but unchanged team for me.

The lesson from the Blackburn game, which one of the players alluded to, is don't wait 20 mins before starting to play. We started slowly against Blackburn and suffered for it, we can't do that at Hillsborough. Agreed with the above lineup, and yes Jeanvier will be back.

Team V Sheff W

Mokotjo or Jensen is the big choice. Although I personally would feel more secure with Jeanvier at the back than Pinnock, especially away from home, he has done very well and it would be harsh to drop him so he should keep the shirt for now.

Usually I'd go for Mokotjo in an away game, but it's difficult to change a team that has just won 7-0 and I think it would be useful to keep him fresh for Cardiff too.

Yep that's our best starting eleven, anything else would be tinkering

Team V Sheff W

Picks itself imo.

Kamo and JJ subs plus B/1st team players.

BUT we'll need to 'tinker' over the week otherwise we'll end up struggling on the Sat against Fulham, and we don't want that do we??

Team V Sheff W

I can see Kamo coming in for Jensen tbh.. apart from that change.. rest will be the same

Team V Sheff W

God knows how TF will manage to stretch his resources across the 3 games.

He has 4 midfielders for 3 places plus a couple of kids, 3 up front with a kid to come in on the wing and lots of options in defence.

He can rest a midfielder in each game but otherwise?????

Mad options would be to play a false nine in one game and rest Watkins or Mbeumo - totally bonkers I know

OR play 352 bringing in JJ and rest one of the forwards.

That's how desperate it is as we play high intensity football and it is a lot to ask that we keep it up with the same team game after game.

Any other ideas??

Team V Sheff W

I might bring in Jeanvier for SWFC and Pinnock for Cardiff. I think Pinnock long balls could be more effective against Cardiff.

Yeah I’ve got an idea, play our strongest XI in each match. Running around twice a week for 90 minutes can’t be beyond them

Team V Sheff W

They certainly can’t be knackered after a 7-0 stroll around the park

Maybe we have all got a bit too clever for our own good? In the good/bad old days rotation was unknown and Liverpool once won the league using I think 14 players. Is it in the mind? Players are told they need to rest and look after their body more so it becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Think we won Div 4 with 13 players....

................lots of unnecessary running back to the halfway line for another kick off.................

We should always start with the strongest team and sub out the players that need rest once ahead rather than the other way around a la Blackburn.

But how many times have we seen that backfire in the third game in a week? Our game requires us to be right on it, lots of intense pressing and a lot of running.. I think we’ve shown over the last few years that we can’t play with that intensity three games in a week. We need to find a way to maintain that for the Fulham game as sheff W and Cardiff will be tough games

I used to play Saturdays and Sundays throughout my 20's no problem. These are supreme athletes. Just tone down their training sessions a tad and they'll be fine. Remember 71 when we had a squad of 14?

BUT! You want them to be at max fitness/energy levels for every match. We’ve a LOT of games over December/Jan, we can’t expect the same level of performance if we play all the same players every game. Some may be able to do it but others will need resting. We’ve seen so many times the team putting out an insipid performance after a big run of games. Other teams will be using their squads to keep the first 11 fresh. It only takes a few players not at 100% for it to affect our game especially against the top 6 teams. We got very lucky under Warburton with injuries and suspensions but even then we pretty much limped over the line to the play offs as important players were shot and we didn’t have good enough replacements in the squad..

Frank took a moment after the Luton game to explain to Kamo about why he was left on the bench - he seemed perfectly fine with that. Good management i'd say.

I think it makes sense to utilise your options at CB within the squad for these two attritional games. Wendies away will probably be the bigger test over 90mins for a CB given how they play to Fletcher's strengths....JJ likes the rough and tumble, aerial duels & tight marking necessary in these battles, I don't know enough about EP to judge him on whether this is the strongest part of his game.

Pick the player who'll best nullify Fletcher and deal with Bannan's delivery.

Team V Sheff W

Some rotation will need to happen, it's as simple as that. In the past you could get away with it, but to compete in todays game you need to be professional athletes, with high stamina and be extremely fit. You can't just run at people and hope that the opposition had more pints than you.

We didn't lose Blackburn because of rotation, and is is unrealistic to say that if we played Zamburek again we'd lose, which is basically what people are referring to. We lost that due to giving them a 20 minute head start while we failed to get out of first gear. On another day we could have gotten an equaliser, it wasn't meant to be.

I wouldn't mind switching Jeanvier in for this one, as long as Pinnock is told that he'll get the shirt back for Cardiff (he needs to know he can keep it once he gets into the team). The CB choice here isn't a big question mark IMO as both are perfectly capable of playing here.

Just read this on the BBC preview of the game:

Winger Sergi Canos and striker Nikos Karelis both have knee injuries, with Canos now close to fitness.

Really?

Team V Sheff W

Hmmm, very much doubt it ......perhaps mistaken identity with Valencia?

Well, Valencia is in Spain and Sergi's Spanish... they might be getting their intelligence from FootballLeagueWorld!

Team V Sheff W

This may have been mentioned elsewhere but it's interesting to note that Sheffield Wednesday's 8 wins this season have been against the teams currently occupying the bottom 8 positions in the Championship.

The intensity of the modern game is likely to be higher. Both physically and mentally. The tactical stuff players had to think about back then was much more limited. No reading a set of powerpoints before running on as a sub!

Team V Sheff W

I don’t get the need for rotation.
I’m 46 with a ruined back and I do a physical job for at least 12 hours a day.
Mind you, I am completely daffy ducked.

I think that was Villa. 14 players including cup matches.

Just checked. It was. 7 ever present, 3 more nearly so. What seems weird now (although not so much at the time) is that with only one sub, the sub was only used 8 times in 42 matches. Nowadays, with three subs, it's rare if all three don't come on.

Yes I read this too, its Rubbish, ACL is 9-12 months with hard work.

Gustav Mogensen appears to have travelled with the squad...

There is a myth about rotation and I believe the players don't need it, if you were to ask the players themselves they don't want to be rotated and have another player taking there spot, further more they won't be training between games only having massage's and doing recovery work.

Good stuff! B team players often travel with the squad away though for the experience so it might not mean he’s in the squad. Certainly means he’s heading in the right direction though and he deserves it, been excellent so far this season

Team V Sheff W

Forest score a 88th minute winner, only for Millwall to equalise. That means a win tomorrow and we'll be in the playoffs.

Team V Sheff W

I assume if someone from the main 18 gets injured on the way to the ground or in the initial warm out the player travelling with the team can go into the squad?

Team V Sheff W

Worth going for it today. Wednesday have lost 6 games, almost as many as us!

Team V Sheff W

Us and wed have the 2nd and 3rd best xG. So should be goals

Team V Sheff W

We’re 1st and 2nd in the “hit the woodwork” league too
