Team v Southend

This could be quite an interesting line up. Only really 2 B teamers likely to feature and a lot of quality squad players need game time..

Daniels.

Clarke Jeanvier Sorenson Moses

Woods Mokotjo

Judge (marcondes if fit)

Benhrama Ogbene
Forss

I'm assuming Woods prob won't start on Sat as it's too close to all the transfer shenanigans but if there's no loan deal done in next couple of days he'll probably need some game time either way and the Cup game would seem perfect. Marcondes unlikely to be fit but if he is then straight in instead of Sawyers, otherwise play judgey there. Forss needs games up front so give him a run out and it'd be great to see Benhrama and Ogbene down the wings.

Team v Southend

Agree with most of that except I'd go with Field at LB as I don't think we will see Moses for while.

Team v Southend

I have a feeling that Barbet will get a start in his preferred position.

Team v Southend

A Woods - Mokotjo - Judge midfield does not strike me as very creative.

I know that Kenny normally stays free of injury, hence his exceptionally long playing career, but surely this is pushing it a bit.
I suppose that goes for George as well.

I know the cachet of the League Cup is rather less than the FA Cup (although as it offers probably an easier route to Wembley and a Europa League place that must surely be for sentimental reasons only) but it is interesting that everyone is suggesting a team with very few first team regular first choice players. If Smith played any of these permutations in the FA Cup even against L2 or lower opposition there'd be dozens on here moaning that he was taking us fans for mugs.

There's something to be said for using the game to give fringe players match exposure and preserving the energy/minimising injury risk of others, but I'm not sure I'd take it this far. Who'd be a manager though, eh?

Judging from previous seasons it will be a weak squad and we'll not be taking it seriously. Unfortunately I now treat these cup games the same as friendlies and no longer attend. it's a shame, as I love going to Southend.

Team v Southend

Given the size of the squad I feel it is impossible to field a 'weak' side.

I'm still scarred by Oxford and, to a lesser extent, Exeter.

Perhaps.

Southend will be distraught if Bentley doesn’t play as they want to give a good reception

Reckon that could be the team assuming Moses only fit for the bench. That still leaves out Nico who would have been in team instead of Woods but clearly this game needed for Woods to build up match fitness and sharpness.

Team v Southend

... but someone's got the pass the ball to the attacking three more often than not...

Judge and Mokotjo perfectly capable of that I’d have thought? With marcondes out we don’t really have anyone else who can play in that AM role unless we play Ollie there but that kind of defeats the purpose of chopping and changing. Benhrama looks like he’s happy to come inside though and has an eye for a pass and a run at goal. Looks like ogbene is injured as well though so I think we’ll see more first choice players than we would have normally as can’t see any of the other B teamers getting a game as yet..

Having now played Stoke:

Ogbene to get a run out instead of Coote if he's fit enough.... Oksanen might get a sub appearance as well. looked good for Finland..

Team v Southend

Woodsy, Judge, Josh C and Field will start for sure. It looks a strong side whoever else plays.
PS Anyone know if yuh can pay on the day?

I don't think Coote's played out wide for the B team ... although that's often referred to as his position ... so I can't see he'd be considered in that role for the first team. I reckon Mokotjo to start in the middle and Judge out wide, otherwise I agree.

An interesting one. I would ordinarily want some spine of those players starting league games, but that was in the days of lesser players and B-team. Presuming Moses and Marcondes are not ready.

Just need the bench to get some game time. Would like to see Jeanvier and Woodsy play.

I'd expect the 'reserve' front line to be: Benrahma - Forss - Judge, even if Ogbene is fit again. That would leave a midfield of Yennaris - Woods - Mokotjo, which is lacking a playmaker but ought to be enough for an evening in Southend. A good game to give Jeanvier his first start and, with Clarke and Field, the only question is the other centre back; give Sørensen a chance, meaning no players from the Stoke start, or play another?

Not sure that giving two CBs their debuts is sensible but would expect wholesale changes. Strength of our squad suggests we win this comfortably and keep the momentum going. Judge captain?

Don’t think I’ve ever been as excited by a league cup match.

I was at a family BBQ today and was chatting to another Bees fan about our chances this season. We touched on the cup tie at Southend and talked about the "reserve" team that was likely to play on Tuesday. Names mentioned: Benrahma, Clarke, Daniels, Field, Forss, Jeanvier, Judge, Mokotjo, Odubajo, Ogbene, Sorenson, Woods, Yennaris

Not being funny but that group of players could win League One!

We're living in blessed times. Make the most of it, folks.

Don't disagree with your changes, except for Sorensen. I would prefer an experienced (Championship) in the team. Two debut CBs may be a risk for my likeing. Bring him on if we are comfortable.

For those unable to make it (and that may have Sky) the game should be on the Sky Red Button.

Team v Southend

If Odubajo is given game time against Wycombe, he's obviously fit enough to get on the pitch - if lacking match fitness. So I'd expect him to feature.

Ogbene, Daniels, Jeanvier, Judge, Tom Field are also certain to feature. Nico, Kamo, & Woods need 90 minutes, Benrahama too.
