Team vs Bournemouth

To individual is bigger than the club. These people are only in a job because 10,000 of us will come out on Saturday and watch our lot play their lot. In that spirit, onto Saturday.....

My Squad:

Button
Odubajo Tarkowski Dean Greene
Douglas
Toral Pritchard
Dallas Gray Smith

Subs: Bonham, Craig, Calvet, Diagouraga, Saunders, Jota, Long

If Tarkowski not fit, Calvet in for him and Nico on the bench.

Greene ? You would honestly play Calvet, with barely a single senior appearance for us, in place of Craig against one of the best offensive sides in the division ?

Smoking Greene, I think that's what it is or who it is?

Team vs Bournemouth

Greene is the only other left back on our books. Saw the Dev Squad on Friday and he was pretty impressive.

And I'm sorry but Craig's not good enough. I'd have him on the bench as LB cover or CB cover if Tarkowski is not fit but he's going to be had on toast by Kermogant/Wilson if started.

I'm sorry but to play two kids who've managed one single senior appearance between them against the league leaders is absolutely ridiculous. Craig may have had a poor game on Saturday but nobody's going to persuade me that an untried youngster should start ahead of him in a game of this magnitude.

You're by all means entitle to your opinion.

I do however disagree with it. I think Craig isn't good enough, and Calvet/Greene are good prospects. It doesn't happen enough in the top two divisions where youngsters are given a chance. Look at Kane/Mason at Spurs, or Harrison Reed at Southampton. Not particularly special talents but are good enough to be competitive at the top level. Rather that than play Craig when he's proven he's not good enough vs the best teams in the division. If Kane had not been given a chance and Adebayor had been, would spurs being doing as well as they are? If Southampton didn't have so much faith in youth, would they be?

Interesting that two people already have Dallas at LB. Not a bad shout, especially as it would make room for Judge to return to the midfield.

Having said that, in the away fixture most of their threat came from their right wing.

How costly was it that Stroud pulled that red out rather than yellow last week :(

..............not as costly as a leak to the Times..............

For me i would start Toral instead of Jotta. Toral offers more when hes starting games instead of coming off the bench. Jotta has had a quiet 2 weeks IMO. But my issue is at the back. Im worried about Wilson etc giving Dean and Craig the run around. I Pray Tarky is fit and would play Alan Mc at LB.

Our side is likely one of the youngest in the division. There is a vast difference to giving youth a chance (which we have demonstrated a huge willingness to do) and throwing two completely untried kids into what is likely to be one of our toughest tests of the season at a time when circumstances off the pitch may have already unsettled the squad. Craig may not be the long term answer but to suggest we'd be better served by Calvet in a game of this importance is doing a great disservice to Craig IMO who has been a major contributor to our success this season.

There's a difference to playing young but proven player to 'giving youth a chance'.

Again, you're entitled to your opinion and it's difficult to argue with you, as there's obviously valid points. I just feel Craig's massive contributions in the past should not affect the decision to play him - it should be current form.

If Calvet had played as Craig has vs Watford and Charlton most on here would want to bin him asap. Just food for thought that we have plenty of talented individuals waiting in the wings.

Most of the young players in our team were given their first chance by other clubs. None of our first team squad came through our youth system, so it's a bit different from playing someone like Greene.

Untried kids they may be, but they have to be tried at some point. I saw the Dev Squad game vs Swansea and Greene looked a solid player. Do we really have so little faith in our youth team that we won't even consider playing one occasionally when someone is suspended?

There is a huge difference between giving youth a chance, which I'm all for, and thrusting them into the first team against the league leaders without a single previous first team appearance.

It could IMO be to the total detriment of the poor lad to expect him to perform against that quality with just a handful of senior appearances for Chelmsford City to his name. The likes of Kane at Spurs had been beneficiaries of decent loan spells before any exposure to the Spurs first team. Has young Greene even made our matchday squad yet ?

It'd be a risk, of course it would, but any selection's going to be a risk given we don't have a reserve LB in our squad.

Next season we will have Alfie Mawson back from his loan spell at Wycombe and can see him getting the CB position next to Tarky. Very very impressive at Wycombe & even being voted by some as their best defender in the last decade.

I assume this from the news section on the GPG front page is a misprint.

JAKE BIDWELL - The club has confirmed they will not appeal the red card the left back suffered against Watford, so he will incur a one-match suspension.

Thought it was a 3 match ban for violent conduct ( even though it wasn't).

Am i right in thinking if they appeal and its thrown out then another match is added on to make it a 4 match ban??? Might have been a mistype

Playing Dallas at fullback I would play Tommy Smith in place of Hota. We need to have good coverage down both flanks as they use their fullbacks to get forward. Them with Pugh and Ritchie are their means of attack, Wilson goes down with the slightest of touches

.Kermogrant takes their penalties and they all go down the middle, hope they tell Button

Doesn't help us for the next couple of fixtures then but I think we should look to recall him as soon as we can, he would offer us better cover than Nico in my opinion.

As stated, he's there for a minimum of 28 days but... an untried young League 1 centre back? He was bought opportunistically for development next season. I'm not sure he's a saviour and Rochdale fans thought he was not good when played out of position at left back.

I would go with the above but Toral right and Judge left, a friend of mine at Wycombe says Pierre is far better than Mawson in his opinion.

Not saying he is a saviour, I'm saying he would probably offer better defensive coverage than Yennaris especially as we have am injured CB and a suspended LB.

By untried I presume you mean untried at Championship level? Tarky was therefore an untried league 1 centre back 12 months ago as well. As I said I'm not saying O'Connell is the saviour but a match fit CB playing at a decent standard (League 1) and who can also play at LB (albeit not his best position) feels to me like a better option than Nico.......however its all irrelevant as we can't recall him yet anyway.

Team vs Bournemouth

What about O'Shaughnessy? Left footed centre/left back, how far away is he from the first team? Looked decent for the DS on Friday night.

Team vs Bournemouth

Moses left back as he appears to be quite two footed, him marauding down the wing with the option to cut inside with him and dallas interchanging? Macca right back?

Team vs Bournemouth

Surely Macca has to play if now fit - instead of Bidwell. Total for Jota. Judge for Dallas - if fit.

Team vs Bournemouth

McCormack is pretty right footed.

Frankly I don't care what team we put out providing that whoever plays is properly motivated, playing for the club not for some misplaced loyalty, and doesn't attempt to do some stupid f****** dance routine at any time during the match. I will have very little patience with anyone who doesn't give 100% or in anyway lets the club down.

I think you need to attend an anger management course ?

Pretty amazed at the blame Nico is clearly being given. Think we could have had Paolo Maldini playing in his prime at left back and the result would have been much the same.

Not sure about that. It would seem a dramatic change of approach from a system we have been playing for several months, it also falls into the territory of us worrying about the opposition rather than them worrying about us............although their scout on Saturday would surely already have relayed to Eddie Howe "nothing to fear from BFC".

Actually 3 centre backs with TC on the left of the 3 and maybe Dallas and Odubajo playing as our flying wing backs could just work. Scrap the above, I think it could work!

I think that's what was being suggested by the post(s) you're replying to rather than a flat back 5.
