Team vs City

Bit harsh on Roerslev and KLP but I agree that Ajer and Reguilon are the way to go at wing back.

Also, as good as Jensen and Janelt have done for us, I still think overall we are a little short of PL quality in midfield. I would really like to see us get JDS in there. I'm sure a little controversial, but I think Damsgaard should be given more minutes too and this game could suit him.

Harsh on Neil but KLP for me.

Still hoping we sign a player, but don't expect anything.

Team vs City

Think probably one of most predictable line ups of the season imo:

Flekken
Ajer pinnock mee collins Reguillon
Janelt Norgaard Jensen
Neal Toney

Would love pace up top in KLP but can't change neal after 4 in 4 (pace may be more effective late on)

Think our main problem in midfield is being over run/players running through. Everton away last year still sticks in mind where dacoure and onana i think it was just strolled past our midfield at ease. City are not like that and prefer the intricate stuff which i think may suits us a little more (albeit they are the best team in the world). Josh has looked good but think he's more suited to wide and also think he's still not there fitness wise.

Reguillon picks himself and Ajer has to come in for mads after last night

Team vs City

The way City build from back, passing round with Rodri and De bruyne then find a gap, would be a good game for FTT to harass them.

Agreed with KLP dropping to bench due to formation. As much as I love Jensen, perhaps a start for Da Silva just in behind Ivan and Neal? Just for a bit more physicality in early stages then bring on MJ later depending on how game is going?

Team vs City

I'm surprised by these calls for Ajer to play at wing-back. That doesn't suit him or the team at all IMO - it's different from playing right-back or the right of a defensive 3. If you're going to drop Roerslev (which I'm not suggesting), then Lewis-Potter would move over to the right with Reguilon on the left.

I think that KLP is playing LWB out of necessity already, and having him swap sides on top of that is a bad move. I think Ajer has more versatility than you think, and he gets forward and back well. Additionally he's good with the ball. I don't think Roerslev is particularly good or having a good season, might be good to give Ajer a run out wide. Gives us more attacking intent from set pieces too

It's a valid opinion. Though KLP actually has more experience at right wing-back (where he made numerous appearances for Hull) than at left wing-back. Meanwhile, Ajer has only made 1 starting appearance as a right wing-back at Anfield.

And this from the man with the Striker fetish of old ;). Drop the bloke who is scored four in four........hmmm. I understand the rationale and KLP has been vastly improved but play the strike force in form.

Only other quibble with this is that midfield looks very lightweight as well as JDS did from the bench last night.

Just my view, not saying its the correct one or if TF goes with it. I have been asking for addition in midfield in both the last 2 windows. I'm sure TF will most likely make two changes to the side that started against Spurs with both full back changes.

And an absolutely valid opinion....I'm just playing devils advocate in a gentle sort of Maupay/Maddison type way MB ;) . I agree re Wing back changes though have a concern over Ajer as a right wing-back. Roerslev has a history of playing well vs City.

As someone mentioned Damsgaard in the midfield may be a left of centre pick but I get the logic that it's the sort of game which may well suit him......

In his presser, as reported by the BBC, TF suggested that Wissa and Ghoddos would be considered if they get knocked out of their tournaments tomorrow.

The lowest of low blocks required and our midfield as deep as possible. The same tactics as we employed in first half at WHL should be employed. Reguilon and Ajer in as WBs who can inject pace and get forward when necessary. Play for a clean sheet knowing that we will create chances at pivotal moments in the game. We created several good chances at WHL after all. We will also have good options on the bench, JDS and KLP in particular.

Team vs City

I'd go for two changes. Reguilon for KLP is obviously one. I'd play Ajer but leave out Collins rather than Roerslev, who I thought played very well in the last home game.

Shame as KLP has done a good job in recent weeks.

We are going to be very deep, basically a flat back five for most of the game. Also we need someone who can bring the ball out and deal with being pressed which Ajer is better at imo.

Team vs City

Flekken
Ajer - Pinnock - Mee
Roerslev - Janelt - Norgaard - Jensen - Reguilon
Maupay - Toney

Janelt and Jensen on their reverse sides to help protect against the City wingers cutting inside as they like to do.

Ajer just ahead of Collins as greater mobility and better on the ball for the few times we'll have it.

Yes but only once they have played thru or over the high press I am sure we shall employ. I remember in our home game last season being amazed to see Ben Mee in the high press sometimes following a City player from half way line to almost the edge of their penalty box. If we just retreat into a low block without the high press they will eventually pick us apart with their patterns of play. TF always states we must be brave both in and out of possession.

It’s probably on Mee’s thread if anyone has time to go back to last December but he explained the tactics there when previewing England v France.

It’s also interesting that the only 3 outfield starting players from last season’s 1-2 there missing are Rico, Frank and Bryan. I think Reguilon is a decent stand in for Rico. I recall some surprise at FTT starting over Norgaard and while he did the high energy disruptor role very well that day I’m not sure starting CN instead on Monday is a downgrade. There is an argument for playing Ajer over Roerslev and having KLP’s pace to stand in for Bryan but we can set up surprisingly similarly. I wonder whether playing Maupay deep to provide the FTT niggle and have others do the fast breaks might work.

Of course Pep’s no idiot and won’t set up to enable us to close off the De Bruyne- Haaland path so effectively again. For a start Alvarez is quite likely to pair from the start with Haaland and give them another option of a sort that Bernardo didn’t. If we’re as on it as we were then it could be a fascinating match. Remember we went into the last one on the back of being knocked out of the Carabao by Gillingham. And while City are always terrifying, they’re not quite as dominant as last season yet.

Team vs City

I think the team will be horses for courses over the next month. My team would be:

Flekken
Roerslev Ajer Pinnock Mee Reguilon
Jensen Norgaard Janelt
Toney Maupay

Harsh on KLP but I fully expect him to start in the Wolves and West Ham games when we should be going 433. Maupay with Toney back I don't think he can't play in a 433. Probably my team above is harsh on Collins but I think Ajer before his injury was playing really well and I have in front of Collins at the moment (if fit). Mee is in more so how he and Ethan handled Haaland at City away last year.

I want JDS in the team but believe at the moment he is better coming off the bench. One big positive we have options now and with players from the AFCON and Asian cups returning soon, we will have more.

Team vs City

One of Roerslev or Collins needs to make way for Ajer, we were so weak down the right hand side in that 10 minute period Vs spuds.

Reguilon at LWV should make us much more defensively solid than KLP (who tbf I think has done as well as can be expected playing out of position)

Maupay over KLP as second striker, can't ignore the kind of form he's in and Reguilon and Ajer can provide a bit of pace in wide areas.

Usual suspects everywhere else. Sympathetic to starting JDS over Janelt but might be more effective as an impact sub

Team vs City

Flekken
Collins Mee Pinnock
Ajer Jensen Norgaard Janelt Reguillon
JDS Toney

Fancy Josh out wide for this one combining with Ajer down the right.

Team vs City

Ajer to start over Roerslev for me. I just think he is better.

I thought Collins did great at Chelsea when we were without the ball for long periods.

I'm sure Thomas knows best though ?

Team vs City

One assumes we will use a 3-5-2 for this game given the strength of the opposition.

Nailed on starters, IMO:

Flekken
Pinnock Mee
Nørgaard
Jensen Janelt
Toney

So then you have to choose, some very difficult decisions….

Right side of defence: Ajer, Collins, Roerslev (max 2 of 3) - For me, Roerslev goes in as the only “wing” back and it’s between Ajer and Collins for RCB. Honestly not sure who is better for this one.

Left side of defence: Reguilon, KLP (max 1 of 2) - Reguilon is the obvious choice really, but KLP has been very good lately, hard to drop him. You could say just move him further up, but then you get another problem (see below)

Up front: KLP*, Maupay (max 1 of 2) *if not using him at LWB - Both players don’t deserve to be dropped; honestly don’t know what I’d do here either.

Plus an argument for Dasilva to come in, given he’s looking sharp, but not sure where he really fits.

Team vs City

I would say I think this is a game that would really suit Onyeka; and he’s in great form for Nigeria. A shame he won’t be back.

Yarmoliuk sort of suits this one as well in terms of his running, aggression, tenacity etc. but I don’t think he’ll be trusted above any of the usual three. Could see him coming off the bench.

Team vs City

Flekken, Roerslev, Collins, Pinnock, Mee, Reguilon, Norgaard, Janelt, Jensen, Toney, KLP.

Team vs City

Will Thomas surprise us all and play Zanka in a back three with Mee and Pinnock who all did so well together against Haaland at the Etihad last time? It just might need guys with a bit more experience and nous to give us a bit of security at the back.

Team vs City

Flekken Strakosha
Ajer Zanka Collins Mee Pinnock Reguillon Norgaard Janelt
Toney

We’ve been a little bit leaky in defence recently so we may go back to the classic 621 formation and add an extra goalkeeper for this one.
In all seriousness I imagine we’ll see an extreme low block and hold on for as long as possible, and then throw JDS and KLP at them later in the game to try and get something out of it.
Goes without saying this is an extremely dangerous time to play City when they’re chasing their prey at the top of the table, but if anyone can outthink Pep, TF can.

Team vs City

All I would say is that it was pace that got us the wins against city. No Bryan is tough.

I understand it's tough to drop Maupay after recent goals, but I don't think he'll get a kick with his lack of pace. If TF decided to chase the game late on, bringing him on as a third forward to mix things up may be his best bet.

To win this, it needs fast wing play and quality crosses into the box. Reguillon and KLP. That, or a great set piece.

We say it every week, but the defence has to be better.

I like this, but it has to be KLP for Maupay up front..tough on Neal perhaps but City wouldn't let him get a kick. Josh, Yarmo and Damsgaard are good attacking options off the bench too.

Plus I think Reguilon and KLP could be a really exciting combination down the left flank

Team vs City

I think I would pair KLP up top with Toney for this one as we need a bit more pace.

Team vs City

Given Maupay‘s lack of pace there’s no point playing him just to wind up the City players. Get an early yellow from a ref that is aware of his antics, more so after the Spurs game, and he becomes less effective. Of course TF could also advise him not to do it, but Maupay can’t help himself. I really like Maupay, but it’s important that we try and get at least a point from this game.

Team vs City

We are massively up against no matter who we play but we must have a threat on the counter and with Maupay up top we do not have that outlet. I’d also play Dasilva as he can ghost players on that left hand side.

No , if he plays its because he has scored in our last 4 games and has 6 goals and 3 assists .

TF won't pick him just to be a wind-up
