Team Vs Coventry

Lee

Logan Dean Taylor Craig

Fillo McCormack Forshaw Grigg

Farid Clayton

Playing our expensive centre forward on the left side of midfield. That should see him score goals.

Why can't we play him up front as part of a 2 man partnership and actually give him some service?

I don't care who plays.

My only worry is that Uwe knows who are the best 11 to play and how his substitutes can be deployed properly !

Team Vs Coventry

Not many serious options available.

Lee
Logan, Taylor, Dean, Craig
Forshaw, MacCormack, Disgorger, Fillo (or Saunders)
Grigg, Donaldson

Picks itself really.

Loving the predictive text for Toumani. Never really seen him as a midfield disgorger.

Is Button not available now?

I'd pick him in goal for sure.

Goals arent really the main problem with Grigg - he has scored 2 in 5 starts. That is despite injuries, awful service, playing in a team that hasnt played particularly well and on top of that he has moved to a new club (he hasnt had a real chance to form a partnership with Clayton) and he has also had the tribunal hanging over him (which may or may not have been weighing on his mind).

The thing that worries me about Grigg is that he has barely made any contribution to games, we havent really seen him have many shots, run at defenders, link up with his team mates, track back and do "donkey work" etc etc - the way he has failed really to "get into" games i think is more of a concern that his goal tally. He goals against Sheff Utd and his clever movement at Port Vale etc shows he is a good player (not to mention last season's goal tally) but we havent been able to get the real Will Grigg going yet. I believe once the team learns how to play to Grigg's strengths (ie not long balls to his head) the goals will follow.

Because Grigg has yet to really show what he is about (for the various reasons mentioned above) i would start with Farid - who has had injuries and limited football recently as well, but unlike Grigg, Farid has grabbed his chance at every opportunity.

So that is why i picked a forward line of Clayton (who i thought playd well against Orient depsite the odd silly flick here and there) and Farid. Our football isnt exactly flowing atm and i doubt confidence is sky high, so Farid's strengths may be easier for us play to instead of Grigg's.

I agree that Grigg on left wing isnt ideal but with Saville out and Forshaw proving on Monday that he is wasted on left wing, who would you pick to play left wing?

Playing Dave in the middle or Saunders/Fillo/Dallas on the wing is as "hit and miss" i believe as playing Grigg on the wing. At least with Grigg on the wing he stands a better chance of getting the ball at his feet and showing what he is capable of, he can always switch with Clayton or we can go 3 up top if we need to change things.

Essentially i think Farid deserves a start and i dont believe Saunders/Dallas/Fillo are anymore reliable than what Grigg could be out wide. I would also rather see Forshaw in the middle with Al Mc instead of Dave.

I think he'll start with the same team that started vs Leyton. Only poss change would be Saville for Fillo if Saville is fit.

How about 3-5-2 in order to try and find some balance?

Lee

Donaldson Trotta

I'd agree with that. I think we need to go to a simpler 4-4-2 (especially up against Coventry's defence) and I'd like to see how Fillo does on the left. We're missing a game-changer like Forrester, and hopefully he can fill that role. He's looked good on the right but tends to stick wide rather than coming inside and influencing play. Regardless of whether Saville is fit, I'd go with Diagouraga in the middle as Saville has struggled away from home.

Subs: O'Brien, O'Connor, Reeves, Saunders, Dallas, Trotta, El Alagui

Off topic question, but why is the Coventry fixture being played on Sunday?

Is it something to do with their ground sharing agreement with Northampton?

Why no Craig one of the few to take credit of his performance on Monday. Taylor will be in the side to deal with Clarke but surely there must be a place for Craig.

It's far to late to start tinkering with the team as we need some form of consistency so subject to injury I would expect the same team as Monday
