Team vs Forest

Well I think we have to expect rotation in every game now up until the new year, given the fixture congestion. We don't see behind the scenes the condition of each player, eg. no one would have anticipated Pinnock on the bench vs Derby last night.

So there will be changes on Saturday. There's a few areas in particular that I think we need to freshen up:

Raya
Fosu Jansson Pinnock Henry
Janelt Jensen
Mbeumo Marcondes Canos
Toney

- Need to see more pace at RB, I've put Fosu in there but maybe young Stevens could do the job also.
- Dasilva is not on it at the moment. I'd like to see Janelt and Jensen sitting as a double pivot, with Marcondes then given the freedom to play as a proper 10.
- Canos and Mbeumo automatic choices out wide atm, but unless we sign Andre Green before the weekend I'd like to see Joe Adams or Valgeir Valgeirsson on the bench, as we need a different option in that position.
- Harsh on Sorensen who played fine vs Derby but Pinnock is our best CB so has to play if it.

Pretty good call. JDS needs a break. Not convinced by Fosu but Dalsgaard needs a rest and we need someone overlapping Mbeumo to give us the same kind of threat as on the left so worth a go. Wonder if Norgaard might make the bench? Good call re B team players, another one I'd like to see is Gilbert. He's looked bright and clever and gets into the box and happy to take a shot. I don't quite get putting Pressley on the bench when we have a backup striker in Forss already. Would prefer a more attacking midfielder or wide player like you suggest..

Yeah I have already looked at who Fin Stevens would be up against if he replaced HD, Sammy Ameobi hmmm not my choice as first full game player to be up against

We have Forest, Watford Reading and Newcastle coming up in the next 11 days. Totally ridiculous but something has to give and I think that TF will have to rest players tomorrow to keep them as fresh as possible for the nest three matches.

Dalsgaard, Jansson, Henry, Dasilva, Mbeumo, Janelt and Toney have all played a lot lately and I would not be surprised if at least two of them are rested tomorrow.

why do people want HD not to play ? , hes been one of our better players.
Absolutely baffling, just as well the people who want to leave out Henrik aren't picking the team. Despite their position in the league Forest are a good side so we will need to defend well.

Raya
HD Pinnock MBS Thompson
Emiliano Janelt Jensen
Fosu Forss Canos

Henry needs rest - Watford is a bigger game. Also think resting Toney might be advisable

Lets get 3 points off Forest first, would not start Dom Thom and would always start Toney, personally. Wonder what TF will do? I'd always go with the strongest 11, but who knows

Wow, rest Henry after what happened vs Blackburn? I don't think so. On the other hand I do think that Toney has looked a bit weary in the last couple of games, so would agree that Forss should be given a start with Toney coming back in for Watford. Fosu better than Mbeumo? I don't really buy that one.

Is all this 'rest' really necessary? Most of them had months off in the summer and the odd fortnight break since. Is it really necessary to substitute your two best players to give them a rest? Tired at the end of a game? How else should you be? Some, especially midfielders, might well run completely out of steam and need to be replaced, otherwise why else would you replace any of your best players unless you're three goals in front with 15 minutes left?

In response todacidccpigeons comments. 4th August playoff final v Fulham then 1st Sept first pre season v Oxford is not what you'd call a long pre-season. They would have been back training beforehand. I suspect the covid layoff would have had an impact on fitness levels, particularly as last seasons 'run - in' was equally condensed fixture wise. The number of niggly injuries amongst players throughout the leagues is not co-incidence. Fortunately our players are correctly monitored and their game time is proportionate to their individual needs. Players who've been called up for international duty even if they haven't played have had the additional experience of air travel under covid rules, which is exhausting.

I wouldn't make wholesale changes, maybe Fosu for Dalsgaard to maintain energy levels. Mbeumo I'm convinced will turn the corner, all the indications are there, a goal is what he needs. Look at Sergi I was concerned about his performances, but in his last 2 he's shown that he's still 'got it'.

think you will find that there was just a few weeks between losing in the final and returning to training. Whilst these are fit young men playing 3 games a week will be exhausting both physically and mentally.

In all my 60 plus years of watching football I cannot recollect such a punishing schedule over an extended period of time and all clubs are trying to manage players fitness to both getting performances and preventing injuries

I tried to explain my view on the season comparison thread obviously unsuccessfully, but this view of months off in the summer etc really does not apply this season

Yes you are spot on,I’ve tried to explain the same.Look how we started to crumble after lockdown when we went on that winning run in the final 5 games.

Months off in the summer?

I think there was 2 weeks between the playoff final defeat and the start of pre-season.

Okay not exactly summer - but three months to the end of June and most of August without competitive football.
