Team vs Liverpool

Does Baptiste come straight back in or perhaps Onyeka starts? Forss and Wissa edging towards decent minutes off the bench perhaps? Any special tactics to counter the first "elite" team we've had to face this season or we just play our own game?

Team vs Liverpool

The only thing to do is to play our own game. We haven’t played to park the bus since forever and the only club to have succeeded doing this against them this season is Chelsea after going down to 10. It’d be just an invitation to lose with the only ambition being keeping the score respectable. It’s just not in the club’s DNA.

I agree on balance with playing Onyeka rather than Baptiste to start as he’s played them before and we’ll need to be able to keep up a high press. If he and Vitaly can do that, get some decent passes forward and Ivan and Bryan are on it with their finishing we can score. It’ll take unblinkingly nerveless performances from us defensively to keep them out but that’s not an impossibility.

Not certain I know what our game is? You mean press a break quickly? If that's the case I agree.

I think this one may be a bridge too far but if we can get a point out of it it would be an even bigger result than beating Arsenal I think. I'd also start Onyeka, being the only change.

Canos will be relishing playing against his former club, something he probably never thought would have been possible with Brentford.

Always excited for any game but super excited for this.

Me Da used to be a sailor and worked out of the Liverpool docks plenty, he's a Liverpool fan so by proxy I was too growing up in Southern Ireland, I've been to see them twice, once at Anfield and once at West Ham but that was 20 years ago.

To see the current team against our boys in the Prem' in the new stadium will be pretty special.
I'm in Block N126 for this one, can't wait.

Yes, we press hard from the front, look to go forward when we win the ball and try to win the ball back as soon as we can after losing it. Much like their “heavy metal football”. Obviously they’re very good at it and we’ll have less celebrated players doing it and less consistently lethal attackers than Salah and Mane to finish it.

Same starting XI as last match as the link play was excellent and SB was that outlet ball that enabled us to build attacks.

Imo it's a real chance to catch them a bit cold in the first half hr when I think we've been at our most dangerous this season offensively.

PS....bring FTT on at h/t when we're 3-0 up.

Agree, wolves was our best performance this season, no need to change anything.

I think they're taking us seriously going by many of the posts so far of one of their forums,

Yeah, Im not taking any chances against Brentford. Play the best available players.

Brentford do not look or play like a newly promoted club. Similar to Wolves and Leeds before them, they've scraped the idea of aiming for survival, instead they've come up playing proper football and aiming for midtable spot.
There will be spaces to exploit, but it will be a proper scrap and the defence will be tested.
Brentford press high and relentlessly, so for me Robertson has to start. For all Tsimikas promise and excellent delivery, there are remaining doubts about his concentration at the back. They generally look to overload the midfield using their fullbacks, before releasing their wide attackers on one-on-one. Jones is also a no-no in midfield as he's guilty of holding onto the ball too long.

I'm guessing you've not seen Brentford play then .. which would be surprising considering the number of games you watch. Watch the video Squiggles posted. We need the strongest backline we can play, and Robbo is part of that, especially since Brentford like to spread the play to the right a lot, even more so on the break.

And my favourite

We finally can deploy our new back 8 system

Team vs Liverpool

Raya
Ajer Jansson Pinnock
Canos————Henry
Onyeka Norgaard Janelt
Mbeumo Toney

I guess we could see Onyeka’s spot filled by any of Baptiste, Ghoddos or Jensen but would expect the rest of the team to stay as it is.

What a test this will be!

Leeds tried the press against us and we had them off. We were too good at pressing them. We are going to tear these a new one. This is going to be their welcome to the premier league moment. 8-0 win for us.

They’re right about being a level above (at least) but it still sticks in the craw a bit to see them all predicting 3 or 4 nil. Would be hilarious to shove that down their throats.

Team vs Liverpool

The same team as Wolves but I'd consider Frank for Vitaly
I think Vita won't be happy as the German national manager is going to the match to scout him. Baptiste is the question mark in midfield - he has some good properties in the attacking sense, but his fitness is a concern as it led to him losing his head against Wolves. Onyeka looks fit after his Covid scare so has to start for me. I do have the feeling that this match could be decided on set pieces or 1 moment of absolute magic

Even got a ******g Brentford mention.

Up to us to prove we're a better side than Porto now.

In all honesty, I think the national manager will be coming to see/speak with Jurgen Klopp. But I hope Vitaly shows them both a thing of or two.

Sounds like a typical mix ... some very knowledgeable fans, some optimistic, some pessimistic, some very arrogant and some who would struggle to work out if they are watching live football or MotD.

Team vs Liverpool

Am not convinced Baptiste walks straight back into the side after the sending off. FTT for me.

Team vs Liverpool

Wonder if we could get away with,
Raya, Fernandez,
Roerslev, Goode, Ajer, Pinnock, Thompson,
Canos, Ghoddos, Norgaad, Jensen, Frank, Vitaly, Rico,
Fosu, Wissa, Mbuemo, Toney, Forss,
No Jansson? Will never keep a clean sheet.

Team vs Liverpool

Big question is who fills that extra midfield role. Does baptiste come straight back in? Onyeka? Or maybe even Jensen to pick out the passes on the counter? For me we’ve looked a lot better with a more attack minded player in the third role, so would go for one of baptiste or Jensen. Rest of the team picks itself really.

Team vs Liverpool

Unchanged starting eleven I feel, possibly Frank for Shandon to improve the press and counter theirs but then again would he have played 71 minutes last night if he was starting Saturday?

Team vs Liverpool

No. He’s worked very hard to bring discipline to his play rather than rely on adrenaline. Let him carry that on and take pride in his performance and our result rather than an armband.
Yep, has had a stinker on more than occasion against Norwich by trying too hard to impress. He made it back to the Prem of his own volition with Brentford and has nothing to prove to former clubs.

Bring in Jensen with his heavy metal haircut to counter Klopp’s heavy metal football. That’ll work.

Team vs Liverpool

Frank for Shandon just but otherwise the same!

How effing exciting is this one going to be!? If we can keep them at bay in the first 20 and perhaps pinch something who knows?

Onyeka in midfield for me too. Against Arsenal the 3 CMs took turns to press and it worked really well and gave each of them a break. We'll need that again IMO.

FTT for SB otherwise the same for me. Gonna be a tough one but its a game we have worked for and dreamed about so lets just do ourselves proud in front of the 1.2 billion who will be watching worldwide!!

I'm quite surprised how little chat there is about facing Liverpool on Saturday. is it really just another Prem team? :owusu:

Team vs Liverpool

I'd keep the same team as Wolves. But bring Frank on around 60 too re-energise the midfield and press. Which will definitely be needed. I'd be tempted to bring on Bidstrup same time for Janelt. We will win or lose this game in midfield.

Team vs Liverpool

I don't think we'll go with Janelt, Norgaard and Onyeka. I think we'll stick with Baptiste and go for it. No point just trying to contain them. They can be vulnerable at the back and we have to be a threat otherwise we're just there for the taking. Leeds showed the way last season. Everyone expects us to lose so let's go for the jugular. There were moments in the Wolves game where we kept the ball much better than we had in previous games and we need to continue that if we're to compete for 90 mins against the big boys

Having missed out in 1983 (because Dad wouldn't drive up from South Wales on school night) and 1989 (because Dad wouldn't join the massive queue for tickets on that went all the way down Ealing Road), I can't wait to finally see us play Liverpool.... :bounce:

I was there in 83. Liverpool had a hell of a side in those days. Souness. Dalglish, Hansen etc played if I recall.

IMO the only issue is which one of Jensen, Onyeke or Baptiste ? Given the high octane intensity of their game which we have to match, I wouldn't start with Jensen. Onyeke or Baptiste? I'd start with Baptiste because we have to score and IMO he is more likely to create an opening.

Point well made and I think you may be right. I do worry about us getting battered in this game but there's no point in losing a game 3-0 if we were to lose, might as well lose 5-2. I hope Liverpool underestimate us and we play out of our skin, we'd have a real game then.
