Team vs Palace (A)

Massive one this.

It won’t feel like it but in some ways it’s more important than the opener vs Arsenal, because every game against last season’s bottom half sides are potential 6 pointers.

Inclined to stick with Friday’s team entirely tbh:

Raya
Ajer Jansson Pinnock
Canos ——Norgaard——Henry
Onyeka Janelt
Mbeumo Toney

Hopefully we get to see Jensen and Baptiste back in the squad.

Looks like Ajer was taking some sort of medication after taking a knock, he may be a doubt.

Don't they usually have those chew bars for energy boost?
Highly unlikely; eating a solid will impact on the players digestive system more. These shots are just concentrated energy drinks, like the gels marathon runners consume.

I think we may see the same/similar team until home to Brighton. The Christian, Vitaly, Onyeka combo in the midfield is not creative, but it's combative and powerful... something we'll need in the away fixtures and probably home to the "top 6". For Brighton i'd swap out Vitaly for Jensen (if fit), but apart from that I don't see us changing anything. Even if we sign a RB tomorrow, you can't drop Canos after Saturday.

One thing I found interesting during the Arsenal game was that at times the lineup below effectively became this:

Raya
Ajer Jansson Pinnock Henry
Norgaard
Onyeka Janelt
Canos Toney Mbeumo

Perhaps the more of the ball we have, the more we will see this - where Canos is higher up the pitch and potentially even swapping over to the left at times (where he popped up with the goal vs Arsenal) and Mbeumo coming over to the right and tracking back also (similar to the 2nd half vs Bournemouth (H) POSF).

I’m interested that you think Jensen is a better prospect than Janelt because we’re at home. You may be correct, however we played well against Arsenal even though they had more possession. I wasn’t impressed by Arsenal’s overall performance, but in the second half especially they came at us through the middle and Jensen would have been brushed aside, I think. I won’t be disappointed whoever’s picked though. They’re both good.

Not expecting changes. I think Ajer got cramp so should be available. Still worry about RWB from a defensive point of view.

Agree And Janelts energy would be difficult for Jensen to replace, I thought Janelt was immense.

I know I will be thought of as crazy for even suggesting this but with Zaha on Palace’s left I would like to see Rico marking him. That would mean Sergi playing on his favoured left side.

If this could work it gives us a few more options, in future games Rico cutting inside onto his left and being able to shoot with his left would be great. Sergi is less of a threat on the right flank as his goal showed, he can be unstoppable on the left

Depends if Ayer is fit. If he is then no changes, if not then MBS in for Ayer and regrettably Roerslev in for Sergi, as without Ayer moving into RB when Sergi pushes forward we may be vulnerable to a counter

It's a bastard thing to do but no room for sentiment when points are up for grabs against another bottom half team.

Er, we’re 5th...
I reckon TF might juggle things both with tactics and personnel, to get everyone who might need to be relied on, up to speed. I expect regular tweaks each week, depending on the opposition, and also to keep them guessing. Sometimes it won’t work, but it’ll be fun watching.
If a lesser team has a star player like Zaha for example, I wouldn’t be surprised to see us man-marking him as a totally different approach (for us).

Baptiste comes in for me, it's hard to pick who comes out so I'm going for a swap with Onyeka. No reason other then Shandon deserves it.

............that's not a good enough reason unfortunately...............

I totally agree. Baptiste was our best player preseason and can give our midfield an extra dimension, which will be needed against cagier sides

Agree. Also dont think the idea that Norgard, Janelt and Onyeka lack creativity carries that much weight. They can all find a pass. Power/energy seem to be key mf factors in the Prem.

If we knew he was 100 percent fit makes sense but not sure we do.
Be good to get an update on Jensen and when he will return to full training.
Be interesting to see how Wissa is introduced to the team. I’m assuming will initially be as a sub for Mbeumo. Can’t see us reverting to a 4 3 3 any time soon whilst we are finding our feet in division.

Team vs Palace (A)

I think we'll go with the same starting line up. Not sure when Jensen will be fit but it would be nice to see him on the bench, at least.

A lot of pressure on Palace, I hope we take the game to them like we did Arsenal.
Let's not get carried away, there will be a lot of pressure on us too. I think Palace will be a bigger test than Arsenal ?

He did make the Top Twenty on Friday. So he's hardly likely to start.

It is, he deserves a chance to show what he can do. He looks a total player now that can create and work hard in the midfield.

In terms of Banana, didn't he have a knock supposedly or that's what he said to a fan at the Valencia game and that he would be out for Friday.

I think with him making runs and enough cover defensively then palace might struggle with an overload in our attack and that allows Baptiste to run or pop off a creative pass. Again, he is a bit of an unknown but he has the hunger to make it his place in the midfield and palace suits that.

I don't disagree that the midfield was immense and undropable but I would have him in there.

Team vs Palace (A)

Although maybe ignore me as id have Mads Bech in the defence if I was the manager ? (but no idea how I'd get him in ???)

Team vs Palace (A)

I think our defence are big and strong enough to cope with Benteke. Coping with Zaha? I'm sure we have a plan which, as has already been said, could involve Rico switching from left to right perhaps. I would start the same eleven as Friday but it may be necessary to make tactical substitutions earlier.

Team vs Palace (A)

I am sure the team will be the same but looking back at the game on Sky, our midfield will definitely need to add a bit more composure to the fantastic competitive intensity of Friday. For obvious reasons, it was all a bit frenetic and we will need to pass better and try to control the game more as we settle down in this league.

Team vs Palace (A)

I'd be tempted by the same 11. But I'd like Baptiste on the bench.

If CP play a similar system as against Chelsea, I'd back that midfield 3 to overrun Palace's pair. I'd be worried about Canos getting overrun with Zaha, Schlupp and Mitchell, though, so it is tempting to bring Roerslev in. I don't want to see Onyeka forced out wide too often.

Team vs Palace (A)

Same again for me as well, assuming that Ajer and Onyeka will be fit.

Team vs Palace (A)

100% same XI if all are fit. More interesting will be the bench, and hopefully a return for Baptiste and maybe Jensen - either will give us more creative midfield options which we were lacking on Friday (but didn't need in the end).

VAR 2.0 will have a major impact on what Zaha can 'do' inside the box this season.

I'm hoping that if WZ does that cute thing where he plants his leg across a defender and simulates contact will be seen as 'a clear & obvious error' if the ref gives a pen.

Team vs Palace (A)

I'd imagine it'll be the same unless we pick up any knocks in the week. Hopefully we can be a bit more composed on the ball as we 'should' be able to get a bit more possession v palace. Would like to see Baptiste/Jensen back in the squad but no idea how their injuried are going.

Team vs Palace (A)

Same as v Arsenal. Maybe different subs but I thought MBS was an odd swap for Ajer and was wrong so I’ll trust in Frank and let it slide if he gets it wrong because he’s new to this division and has shown he learns quickly from decisions that don’t pan out. Would be nice to see Wissa come on. If Baptiste is fully fit he’d make a scary sub for FTT. I can see the rationale for switching Henry to the right and that would also put Canos on the left to exploit the side Palace are weaker on. It’d be an odd way of rewarding Sergi’s excellent game v Arsenal to drop him for Roerslev and keep Henry left. But who knows, Frank might just surprise everyone and go 433?!

Team vs Palace (A)

No changes needed. See how the game progresses and go from there. Would rather go solid into the game and then if Frank feels he can make more offensive approach then do it.

Looking at today's training pics, it looks like almost everyone (apart from Jeanvier and JDS) is back out there. Baptiste, Jensen, Zamburek and Fosu all pictured. Ajer too so obviously no problems with the knock he picked up v Arsenal. Jensen and Baptiste seemed to be training separately though.

If they are, they are probably working on stamina, having not done so much training as the others recently.
