Team vs Sweden

Come on then, who are you picking?

For me:

Pickford
Walker Stones Maguire
Trippier Henderson Delph Rose
Lingard
Sterling Kane

Some fresh legs, but also not taking victory for granted as they will be tough to break down.

Would like to see Lingard linking up with Sterling a bit more so would push him further up and have Delph playing in the deeper role.

Saving Loftus-Cheek and Rashford for impact subs.

Alli isn't injured apparently, and would hopefully be more up to speed after the Colombia game. Agree about Rose, but I hope Rashford replaces Sterling, who always looks short of confidence in the England team (well, that's how it appears to me).

Team vs Sweden

Not sure Young deserves to be dropped? although I fully agree with the left footer at left back.

Never been a fan of Delph but on his recent form i'd have him over Dier if either was going to start.

Lingard and Alli both looked a little tired / nervous? so potentially Loftus Cheek or maybe even Rashford to start.

I'd go for Loftus-Cheek in midfield but a bit deeper and more central than he played in the other games. Rose for Young has to happen sooner or later as Young has no pace left and his set piece delivery was poor against Colombia.

Dropping Sterling for Rashford would be madness as he is one of the only players who looks capable of actually linking play and moving us up the pitch. It's not his fault that our defence and midfield cannot move the ball forward effectively.

Team vs Sweden

I suspect it will be the same team that started against Columbia unless Alli is not 100%. Personally I would swap Rose for Young and Rashford for Sterling - must have watched a different game to some on here on Tuesday as I thought he was awful.....

Does Sterling look like scoring? No. Each game I hope this changes and that he gets a confidence boost, but it just doesn't happen. With a shortage of goals from anyone other than Kane, I think this needs to be addressed. Of course, who knows, if Sterling plays perhaps this will be a transformative game for him, but I've thought that so often in the past that I've lost faith in him in an England shirt, for the time being at least.

Sterling always looks like he's going to skilfully dance around the defence with his arms waving about but usually does a good impression of a man running into a wall.

Team vs Sweden

Unless Walker is injured I suspect it will be same XI . Personally I'd prefer Loftus Cheek over All as I think it will be quite physical and Rose over Young as early crossed balls will be required to break a team that defends in numbers in a very disciplined way.

He doesn't look like scoring because our midfield cannot get him the ball. Has Kane looked like scoring from open play?

Am sure there are some and also Gareth may also take into consideration the fact that Sweden will be difficult to breakdown but not necessarily have lightning quick strikers. Maybe as a result having Dier replace Walker who will be more comfortable taking ball out of defence and acting as an additional midfielder. Expect Rose to replace Young to provide more attacking threat on left as well as bearing in mind Young is 32 and took a knock against Columbia. Gareth may also consider Loftus-Cheek instead of Alli but my bet is that he will stick with Alli given LC on a yellow card and he can be used off the bench. So:

Pickford

Dier
Stones
Maguire

Trippier
Alli
Henderson
Lingared
Rose

Sterling
Kane

Alli has been very ordinary. Not sure what works as a replacement though.

Diet wouldn’t get near my team in any capacity. Penalty aside, he had a hideous cameo against Columbia IMO.

Diet?

So there’s no way you’ve watch Spurs last season then and basing your decision on one England performance. Bloody weird.

Autocorrect obviously. And no, I’m basing my opinion on the fact that having watched Dier in every England performance he’s been involved in, I simply don’t believe he has the pace nor the ability on the ball to stake a genuine claim for a place.

Walker’s pace is an asset at the back and whilst Dier is capable of the occasional great long pass, he is incredibly susceptible to conceding cheap possession when pressed.

He’s cover for Henderson IMO, the two together have been shown to be totally ineffective, and Henderson simply has more to his game, especially mobility, which makes him an easy preference IMO. If we’re looking to add extra solidity in the middle then Delph alongside Henderson is for me a vastly better option.

And every Spurs fan I know who go to the games would agree with your point regarding a Spurs place and an England one.

A few spurs fans at work - they do go to matches - don’t rate him much either.

He has his limitations. Not progressed and developed as some supporters believe he should’ve done. Peaked at a young age and hasn’t improved his game.

This is the kind of game I wish we had a player like lallana or Wilshire with us, oh well I have faith the boys we have will see us through. Can see the players coming off the bench being able to make an impact as I think the Swedes will be tough to break down and they will be quite defensive , I hope not though
