Team vs Walsall

Moore
Logan Dean Craig Bidwell
O'Connor
Douglas Forshaw
Saunders
El Alagui Donaldson

Subs: Lee, Legge, Barron, Diagouraga, Dallas, Saunders, Hayes.

Bidwell in for Barron. Forshaw (if fit) in for Diagouraga. Saunders just about warrants keeping his place, though would be tempted to start Forrester or even move Forshaw forward to make room for Dave. Definitely not a midfield diamond that includes both Forrester AND Saunders at an away game though.

Need 3 points to keep up momentum and if that XI can't beat Walsall at the second bite, we may have problems. But I think (hope) it should be comfortable.

That team looks about right, Saunders starting and on the bench? Think this bidwe news is getting to everyone! Would like to see Hayes starting a game, he looked amazing on Saturday!

I like the look of Hayes a lot, but would you drop either Clayton or Farid after Saturday ?

Are you Uwe? The 'tinkerman'!

Why change a winning side?

Keep the same starting XI as we had v Crewe.

Add Bidwell and Forshaw to the bench instead of Redwood and Fredericks.

Although I can see Bidwell starting in place of Barron.

Why change it? Why?

I may not change anything else but I'd have Bidwell in the team immediately.

Lee. Legge. Fredericks. Reeves. Dallas. Forrester. Hayes.

Guessing Forshaw is sill out injured.

Magnificent though Saturday's win was, the back 4 did look very shaky at times. I was not alone when the score was 3:1 in worrying that 3:3 was a distinct possibility. For that reason I am happy for Uwe to tinker, particularly having got Jake Bidwell in - let's make use of him.

Team vs Walsall

Thank god the 7 sub rule has been brought back otherwise they'd be a lot of good but very unhappy players right now!

Team vs Walsall

Obviously the same team bar injury with Bidwell replacing Barron being the exception to the rule.

^^^ This please.

Bit harsh to drop either Douglas or Toumani after Saturday, so I'd start them and have (a hopefully fit) Forshaw breathing down their necks on the bench should either of them underperform.

Looks good except replace Reeves or maybe Forshaw (if he is injured) with Adeyemi.

I'd agree with that. Definitely no need to change the midfield after Saturday, but Bidwell to come in.

Team vs Walsall

Bidwell has to come in, Barron benched. Forshaw returning from a knock can wait this one out on the bench and come on in the second half along with Hayes. Hopefully soon we get to see Forrester start a game over Saunders, no reason to do that now though.

Team vs Walsall

Don't change a winning side. Interestingly, the squad now has so much strength in depth, we are spoiled for choice. Do not underestimate Walsall-they turned over Notts County away and deservedly so.

Bidwell straight in for barron, Dave deserves to keep his place after Saturday so Forshaw only on bench, Forrester in for Saunders, tough on Sam as he's done ok in his new role but just feel Forrester is the future.

I'd go back to having experience in the goal, especially if we want to start getting the points to worry the worry league, so Lee in goal. Defence near unchanged, Bidwell for Barron. Leave midfield alone, or maybe the only change being Saunders with Forshaw. Attack stays same.

So..

Lee
Logan Craig Dean Bidwell
KOC
Dave Douglas
Forshaw/Saunders (pick one)
FAE Donaldson.

Forrester to remain on bench, unfortunately.. as much as he IS the future he needs to, when brought on, show to Uwe that he is better than the experienced Saunders, and make it his own. Saunders showed last season he is a tough player to overthrow, not so much this season, and can only blame himself when he does.. so needs to step up. Forshaw, however, I see as a more potent attacking midfielder and willing to shoot on sight when giving chance...

On the bench I'd have

Leaving out Adeyemi, Oyeleke Reeves, Gounet and Fredericks

Always a good strategy to start with 10 players ;)

Team vs Walsall

Bidwell and Lee should be the only changes for Walsall. Moore and Barron were the only players that gave any cause for concern against Crewe.

Only change Bidwell for Barron, but it wouldn't surprise me after a 5-1 win everybody keeped there place. Bit hard on Forshaw but he will get his change again.

Team vs Walsall

the last time we scored 5 goals? :-)

Team vs Walsall

No changes. NEVER change a winning side. If Barron is having a crap game then bring on Bidwell.

Team vs Walsall

The quality of our bench is the real difference from recent years, to have a good side that won 5-1 last week and then the likes of Legge, Forshaw, Forrester, Adeyemi and Hayes to bring in is significantly better than we have had for many years... Even under Coppell the fringe players were suspect, albeit the first XI was extremely strong!

The weakness of the squad probably cost us promotion that season; I think our end season 'best 11" only missed 1-2 of the last 10 games between them, presumably some playing with knocks. The 2 new signings mean we have depth in most positions, esp midfield

As above. Bidwell in for Barron but otherwise keep the winning team. New signings probably push Fredericks and Dallas off the bench

I'd still possibly swap in Lee for Moore but don't know if Richard is fully recovered.

This has to be the strongest squad weve had since way before Coppell years. Time will tell whether we have players that can go on to grace premier league and upper echelons of championship like Ingimarsson, Hunt, Rowlands, Sidwel, Paul Evansl. But if look at that team versus Reading our bench consisted of Oli Got, Mark Williams, boxall, Theobold and a young KOC. I also recall that Burgess was playing almost on one leg at end of that season. Our squad is far stronger than then and would say stronger up front, as strong in defence and goal overall but will take some matching a midfield of Rowlands, Hunt, Paul Evans and Sidwell.

I remember even if I were a kid at the time, the team were knackered in the final run in and by the time we got to the Stoke game the difference was there to see. Stoke had a fresher side with a lot of quality loans. We looked tired and lethargic that day.

I shall be at Walsall one of the few games I will make this season due to another tour of duty in Afghan but its looking good this season once the team gels. We have very few loaness in the first team now so they should do well.

i can't see us getting anything less than three points against the Minstermen. Uve will have learned from the Milk Cup game and will not have it.

If you can improve a team then you should even if the team comprehensively won their last game. Bidwell has to play if he's considered match fit. Doubt he's any less match fit than Barron when he came in.

Team should be able to get revenge on walsall and hopefully keep sticking it in the onion bag. If we aint going to play Forrester, maybe he should go out on loan for games. I'd rather see him in red and white stripes (and white backs) though.

as above ,but I dont think Saunders will be dropped

Agree, Sam will start tomorrow I'm sure. After Uwe publicly singled him out for praise after Crewe acknowledging that he'd struggled before it would send out all the wrong messages and not do much in terms of motivation or morale to leave him on the bench.
I reckon everyone knows that they will need to consistently deliver this season if they want to keep the shirt - the midfield is particularly interesting as at present 7 possibly 8 genuine contenders for 4 starting places - Kev, Jon Douglas, Sam S, Harry, Forshaw, Tom A, Dave and probably to a lesser extent Jake R. It's never going to be the best midfield combo I've seen in my time (Hurlock, Kamara Bowles) but it's definitely the best in terms of depth and gives UR real options depending on the oppo. I trust that the competition will will spur everyone on to raise their game which can only be good for the team.

I would be very happy if we ever see a midfield as good as the one you mentioned.....ah happy days on the terraces of the Oak.:)

.......not forgetting Gary Roberts. A very decent midfield 4

Yeah. It was an OK sort of midfield. If you like that kind of thing. :sneakoff:
