Mr Rosler wanted attacking full backs so let's use that option tomorrow to give us the attacking width, with 3 centre backs to clear up in defence should allow for the " flair" players to do their thing in the middle of the park and just perhaps allow a forward the freedom to score!!

I'd agree with you, NB, with the caveat that El Al can replace Donaldson once Uwe decides against the long throw and Forrester replaces Saunders once he throws a strop.

Does anyone know if Hayes has had much of a preseason? I am wondering how fit he will be.

Agree, must admit I'd like Dallas to get on though

Team vs Yeovil

Given his lack of match fitness and that he won't have trained with the team I think Hayes will be on the bench tomorrow.

I think tonight will be an interesting pointer to how Uwe wants to play this season. With the possible exception of Richard Lee, I think everyone is fit, so the formation and personnel should reflect what he wants from the team. At home at least, I hope he'll play 2 strikers, probably Donaldson and Hayes, with a narrow midfield diamond and full backs pushing well forward - not sure Saunders and Forrester will both start in that formation. But playing 3 CBs at Bury on Saturday was a surprise, so who knows

Totally agree with what you say but not sure how fit Hayes and El Alagui are. Unfortunately I can't go due to a domestic commitment. The squad assembled by Uwe permits a number of lineup variations between and within games. Really looking forward to this season. Hope I read tomorrow how we played the beautiful game.:sorted:

It's going to be interesting and, as noted, the relative fitness of Lee, El Alagui and Hayes will play a part. Once fully fit, Hayes has got to be the default front man with Lee in goal. Uwe and the team have worked on formations in pre-season and training and I fully expect a number of combinations to be used, despite the Sunday-leaguers moaning about 'tinkering'. Once the defence has settled in, we have the personnel to load the attacking third; something we've not seen for decades.

Surely Fredericks has got to at least be on the bench as there would be little point giving him a season long loan would there?

I think the GK spot is for Moore to lose rather than Lee to automatically reclaim. At least that's how I see it. In fact, if Moore does well then we could even contemplate a departure for Lee which would free up more wages for outfield players. I like Lee, but Moore has the potential to earn the club money in transfer fees, so his development is more crucial.

Re tonight I think El Alagui and Donaldson will start, with possibly Hayes to come on as a late impact sub. What I like about all three strikers is that they all offer something different, Donaldson is pure pace with the occasional bit of skill thrown in, Alagui is a six yard box man and Hayes is your Bob Taylor type striker. It means you can easily replace Forrester/Saunders with Hayes and operate a 3 man strike force if you need to chase the game.

I hope we're not chasing the game tonight!

I think Moore is good competition for Lee but it's too early in his development to think about him as number 1; he's got to learn to kick to the left, for example. Lee should give the defensive stability with the back four (or five... or three) that allows other players to get further up the pitch. Our well documented lack of a potent strike force last season was compounded (IMHO) by playing Douglas as the holding midfielder, which he plainly isn't, meaning that the midfield was reluctant to get forward. Forshaw, on appearance so far, is the key to that as I'm afraid Sam does not look like he's up to the pace of Uwe's game.

which ever way it goes tonight with the line up i had a dream last night which had the ealing road end going mental as el Alagui kissed the coin after scoring a screamer.

"kissed the coin"? Is that a euphemism or am I out of touch with young people's slang?

There is an encouraging lack of 'new' and 'a n other' in all the team selections now, things must be coming together.

This is unless Hayes is not match fit or not deemed to have been integrated, in which case FAE will start..... which I think will be the case.
