He had just finished playing when i really started supporting the bees. I have heared alot about him and hes already one of my fav players of all time!Can anyone tell me if he was as good as they say?Or anyone got any stories???

Big, strong and local. Would have stayed in Div 1 had he not got injured on the 1st day of the season. Scorer of many goals for centre half and not many people took liberties with him(ala Hurlock). Dave Webb got him out and IMHO because he was such a cult hero with the fans at the time. Strangely a bit like Mr. S Hunt is at present.

I actually think he was better than many people give him credit for. He was obviously very tall and was fantastic in central defence and up front for corners and free kicks. However he was also fairly fast and agile for such a tall player. When he did get pulled out wide, he would almost always stop the oposition from crossing the ball. Not to mention one of the best captains (organisational and inspirational) that I can remember us having. Tel was Tops!

I have memories of him drinking in my Dad's pub (The Princess Royal) when I lived there,. apparently he was a very good drinker.

What a man!

Every time we had a corner the opposition and the other teams fans would be packing their pants when they saw Tel jogging up the pitch. He was a man mountain.. and a TRUE Bees legend :sorted:

Seen him at Warren Farm with his dogs watching his sunday side, Broadway boulevard after a Tuesday night FA Cup replay win, and Wally's dodgy bar in 'Nam thats now a lap dancing club, when I was on a lame stag do.

Took the time to chat every time I've approached him, and didn't seem up his own arse like some of them are.

Remember a low shot away at Sheffield Wednesday from the edge of the box, that put us one up when they were good, and shouting "go on Tel" over and over from the moment he stepped up for a corner until the moment the ball hit the back of the net at Ashton Gate, at our end on the old open terrace.

Top man is Terry,he and Millen were the best two centre backs that I have seen at G P.Funny how history can repeat itself,but wasn't Terry served with a 6 match ban just after joining us from Hillingdon Borough just as Sodje(sp) is now?

Many people had the pleasure ( so I hear ) of sharing a drink with this true Bees Legend.
I remember someone saying after such an encounter with him,whilst he was at Wycombe, that if you cut him he would still bleed red and white blood.
A Bees Legend by which all others shoud be judged but few will come close to.

A true Bee who always gave everything each match.

Rememebr him scoring at Griffin Park against Barnet in the League Cup and getting his front teeth knocked back as he collided with Gary Phillips while scoring. No rolling around on the floor for Tel, just celebrated and had to be convinced to go off and get them sorted out!

Trying to climb fencing at Peterborough after the final whistle when we won the championship.

Nearly falling out of the upper tier of Braemer Road after Peterborough, possibly due to one to many sherberts n the way back!!

Grabbing Steve Bull by the throat and nearly punching him at Moulineux after taking a late challenge

Outstanding leader and probably my favourite all time Bee

A man mountain! I remember him scoring away at Grimsby on a miserable Tuesday night battling against relegation from Div 1, in his first game back from injury...such was his wanton desire for the bees to stay up.

Didn't he have an alsatian called satan? Didn't know he was from Bedfont.

i remember meeting him the day our F A cup tie at charlton was called off and we ended up in some strippers pub in west drayton and he was a top bloke. had loads of time for all us bees fans despite the distraction of the naked ladies. i'd just been arguing with a hurlock fan on the train that evans was the best BFC player ever and there he was in the pub. brilliant. a true bees legend.
i still hate webb for getting rid of him for calling him "mate" instead of boss or whatever power trip he was on the fat ****. ONE TERRY EVANS, THERE'S ONLY ONE TERRY EVANS.
and yeah ashford, grimsby away was superb wasn't it, really thought we were staying up that night, booker and evans going mental at the end, crazy days. can't wait to be back in that division. :nono: :nono:

agree re grimsby trip. stayed in b and b with a few others, quality celebrations!! Also had the pleasure of Terry Evans and Jason Cousins joining in my stag do weekend after the southend away last game in 91. We were in pub and they came in. We all ended dancing on tables with our willys hanging out. Then off to the infamous Ivy House until i collaspsed on the seafront and was taken into the police station where the plod covered me in"police aware" stickers. They were ok with me and i repaid them by peeing up the side of the police station when the missus came to get me. I had been brighton friday night and had no sleep in about 60 hours. Tel always said hello after and had a beer with him in the bees inn a couple of times. True legend and was a great player. Millen and Tel, what a partnership. Never bettered

I will always remember The Haymaker he launched at Kenny Achampong of Orient and whilst a 22 man brawl ensued he was giving the away end the thumbs up. How he did not get sent off i will never know.
The man was a beast, a true legend with bees blood.
Will always find a place in my all time BFC XI .

Terry lived in Ruislip and stayed loyal to his home mates. As an very young player he had a chance to join Liverpool & Norwich, but turned both down because he wanted to play closer to home.
He and Keith Millen both came down to give trophies out at my sunday sides annual dinner three years running, they stayed all night and socialised emphatically, a real duo of fun together. :sorted:

Some facts about Big Tel:

I met him in the Exchange in Staines once and he was a giant.

He was an apprentice printer.

We signed him from Hillingdon Borough.

and I think he did a bit of time in a Borstal/remand centre type thingy when he was young.

Top player all round. I never rated Keith Millen that much though.

Keith was a great reader of the game and probably lacked that extra yard of pace, that really would have made him. I felt he made the game look easy.
An injury prevented a move to Spurs earlier in his career and I am sure with a bit of better fortune would have been a top division league player. Lets not forget he played many games for Watford & Bristol City in a higher division than Terry ever did, so he must have had something. :sorted:

I remember running on to GP :nono: after a game , possibly the 3-1 agaisnt Man City. I ran up to big Tel and he was striding off the pitch shouting 'Yess come on, get in there' etc with 4 (four ) Bees fans hanging off his body like orangatangs in a tree. He was so strong, and exactly the type of player you wanted in the team. Excellent partnership with Keith Millen.

Also remmeber hin scoring an amazing volley against Cardiff on last game of season at GP which Perryman went aboslutley mental about celebrating by the dugout.

My best recollection of Big Tel is also when he was scaling the fence at Peterborough after having thrown his shirt in to the ecstatic Bees fans.

I believe that he left Wycombe after being offered the post of Fitness Manager (or something similar) running the staff gym and fitness centre for Wycombe's shirt sponsors, Loans.co.uk. This probably suited Tel as he is now a qualified Physiotherapist.

An image I always have in my mind is Evans and Millen helping Roy Clare get the kit off the coach at Fulham (did not need to be asked). Can't imagine Kieron Dyer doing that.

Legend just doesn't seem to discribe the bloke i was in awe of him when i was a youngster and still am now!!! It was a picture I drew of Big Tel that won me Steve Perrymans Autobiography while i was in the Junior Bees!!
