Just a note to say thank you to the stewards and St John's Ambilance staff who were so helpful and caring today after I was hit and knocked a bit senseless by a stray football just before the match.

I've just got home and am a bit shaky, sore and sick but I don't think there's any serious damage.

Oh apparently I am told it was a wayward but bullet-like shot from Clayton who was as inaccurate before the game as he was during it.

Sounds like you should of watched the game from the middle of the Colchester goal ,less chance of getting hit

Re Ealing Road match incident, someone went flying in the goal celebrations. Taken off in a wheelchair to the ambulance.

For what it is worth I've been to A&E today and they think I have a mild concussion so will rest up tomorrow.

Hope they're OK (and NLB); perhaps the stewards will get a bit more interested in what happens in ER after goals (or sometimes happens for no apparent reason)

Having had concussion my self it can take far more than a day to recover .I didnt drive for a week and it took another week after that before I felt ok-ish

Hopefully it will give you some time to put your feet up and read, there's a book on Millwall by Mike somebody or other that you may not of heard of, give it a go.

It does look a bit dangerous to be standing behind the goal when the players are having some shooting practice?

Maybe the club needs to install some kind of netting that can be raised to stop a serious accident occuring one day?

Sorry to hear about your accident - I missed it but I thought you sat in New Road near me, you haven't been bullied by Newbee79 and re invented yourself as one of the Ealing Road singing crew this season?

Thanks again to everyone and unfortunately Bigbee is correct. I went back to work today and am still not right yet but hopefully well on the mend now although i still feel a bit sick.

Never realised quite how hard a pro can hit the ball!

Many years ago when I was 5 years old I was taken to a reserve game by my grandad. We were standing in New Road and I watched this very heavy leather football ( they still had laces at the time ) come bouncing towards me. My next memory was a revolving picture of the sky and concrete steps as I rolled down the terraces. The trainer sprinted across the pitch and used the old wet sponge and decided I was ok!
I have never forgotten it. I can just imagine what the reaction would have been nowadays!
Hope you feel better soon. My experience didn't seem to cause any lasting damage although my wife would probably say otherwise.:D

A kid I was at school with got one in the face when standing on the old Braemar terrace and was knocked out. His family got free tickets for the next home game so I reckon NLB should get the full £50 free booze and scoff treatment. Come to think of it, I had my wrist dislocated when Alan Hawley sliced the ball out of play and hit me at Southend once in the late 60s.

Not a bad idea, I won;t hold my breath though! The club staff were really helpful and efficient on the day and I have had some phone calls this week checking upon me so well done to them all. Maybe there should be some netting put up before (and maybe during given our shooting accuracy) games.

Still got sicky headache and now realise that this blow will take quite some while to get through my system and need to stop rushing around for a bit longer.

I think the club know that "Where there's blame there's a claim" and were checking up to make sure you didn't intend to get the no win no fee boys on the case. lol

I don't know if anyone else noticed this but, during the half-time interval the Oldham No. 6 belted a ball from the half-way line towards the Brook Road goal which hit one of the young lads doing a lap of honour on the back of the head. The poor lad was knocked over by the force and surprise of it. Glad to see the lad got to his feet ok but very disappointed at the reaction of the player concerned. Rather than go over to see if the kid was ok, the Oldham player proceeded to joke with his team mates about what he had just done. What a ****!

Pleased to hear that, from NLB's similar experience, Brentford staff show proper concern and courtesy when something like this happens. If Dickov had seen it, he would have probably moaned to the 4th official that it was the kid's fault.

When I was at school I went in for a tackle and got a full bloodied shot in the stomach, horrible experience as I felt I couldnt get any breath in me, the culprit
was a certain John Sissons later to play for West Ham.

Even worse than that was seeing a very old chap in the paddock get one straight in the face yesterday, it hit him on the nose, smashed the lens out of his glasses and cut all his nose before he had even realised what was about to happen, it was a horrible sight.

The steward (standing a metre away) did nothing and completely sh@t himself when a few bees fans suggested he shouldnt just stand there like a gormless **** collecting a wage, and that he should get some 1st aid (what are the point of stewards? They cause more trouble than they solve). Anyway, eventually he got taken out and cleaned up, the St Johns people came wandering along like it was a sunday stroll and arrived too late to help the bloke who needed fairly urgent treatment, mostly for the shock of it all.

The old chap and his son missed the only goal of the game, a nasty black eye had developed by the hour mark and he had a big plaster on his nose. Needless to say he had a bit of a sh1t day out, despite a half time doughnut (no im not talking about the steward again) that he seemed to really enjoy, i hope the bloke is ok and that he has better days down at GP in the near future. As for the stewards, well they should hang their head in shame for the way they failed to properly help the bloke.

I can only reiterate how wonderful the stewards andSt John's Amulance were to me. Slightly concerned how many similar incidents there have been lately, is there anything that can be done in terms of netting etc.

Interesting about the old style brown football with the laces. I was playing football for the school team at Gunnersbury Park many years ago, and a player on the opposing side belted trhe ball at our goal, which I headed off the line. For the rest of that match I was in a daze, and when I got back to the dressing room, still had the mark from the lace on my forehead!
Anyway, hope you are feeling better soon NLB.

I have sympathy for you NLB.
A few years ago, I was sitting in the paddock and Michael Leary cleared the ball from danger.
The ball was heading sraight towards my son who was about 6 or 7 years old.
i dived in front of him and the ball hit me full on in the chest, a football ? More like a cannon ball.
I swear, if that had hit him in the face, only the Lord would know the outcome.

I will do indeed - will be wearing my Brentford polo shirt same as last time. You need to lighten up - obviously you do not appreciate my sense of humour....;);)
