All these ones are winners at the highest level and so are always likley to attract headlines, as they wil be attending very important press questions.

Glad that we can agree on something then IslandBee. As you point out to go to a club like Tranmere with the aim of drawing does seem below what our expectations should be.

After a great result against Col U, we should have been looking for nothing less then three points against Tranmere.

we should of been looking at what they were doing with that free kick

The Andy Scott Thread

Unlike some I hane no problem with setting the team up to come away with a draw from Tranmere and quite frankly would have been very pleased if that had been the result, bearing in mind previous results up there. However setting up to draw away from home is only succesful if you actually acheive it and in reality if that is going to be our away option than lets at least send out the team to do the job and increaase the number of defenders.

I have previousley expressed concerns about the Managers tactical ability and man management skills, dealing firstly with Press Conferences; Andy has publicly criticised senior pros for costing the game and when not picking out individuals then it is the team not following instructions or not doing what they have spent the weeek practising. I compare this with the conferences from Owen Coyle after Burnleys regular away defeats and he is up beat, confident that by playing "football" they will get it right and compliments the players on how hard they tried. I would imagine that players at Burnley are far happier to respond to the requests from their Manager as they know that when the going gets tough they will be supported.

The tactics that we follow do seem to be stuck in the past as everything seems to start from a long kick from the keeper yet how much more effective would it be if we started with the keeper throwing to a defender in space and then to pass to the opposition box. Having set the style of play it seems that we have plan A and if that does not work then we move to different players trying to play....... plan A. For goodness sake if something is not working then change it, the new style may fail as well but I would rather we failed tyring to do something instead of just continuing with what we are doing.

A number of posters tell us that we are over-reacting and that is probably the case however equally for those who trot out "In Andy we trust he got the players on loan last year and come Jan will do the same" I have a thought for you, Andy determined the team he wanted last Summer and since then has got in an additional 5 players to cover the ones he got and is talking of getting rid of players in Jan and therefore presumably getting new ones in. This does not give me a great deal of confidence in his ability to pick players or that he will be able to replicate the success of last season.

Another thought for the Andy lovers when the transfer window shuts at the end of Jan the team that Andy has put together has to do the job as any new manager would not be in a position to make changes to the team unless he can get new loanees in and we may well be up to the max by then.

I hope that AS turns this around as I would not want to go down the changing Manager route yet again, however the ball I would suggest is in Andys court I know that he does not read any of this but perhaps he should, all we want is to see him reacting to performances on the pitch and if things are broken then change them, we want to see him unite the team if we lose then we have lost as a team ( he can discuss with individuals in private) We want to see players playing in their best positions, we want to see players playing witthout fear and finally we want to see a team that is playing decent football and looking to score goals.

OK I know that I cant have everyting but I think tthe board need to see that at least Andy is aiming for these ideals and quite frankly before the end of Jan will need to have made a decision, are we comfortable that Andy can get us enough points to stay up if so lets really support him and show it publicly. If not then decisions will need to be made before any available funds are spent. Not easy and damned if they do and damned if they dont however the Board need to do everything to ensure that we do not drift back to the bottom division.

I thought that, we played for 40 minutes at Orient but haven't played much football away from home since Southampton. He can't defend or talk up our away performances as there hasn't been any for a fair while.
As I said a few days ago, if you want AS out then you're slightly bonkers, if you want him to stay and won't accept anything said about him then you are totally insane.:sorted:

Our tactics are basic. When we win the ball, get it wide and put the crosses in. Trouble is , everyone tries to do that and it's easily defended by shutting down the wide players. You need a little more guile than that when up against better managers and players. AS has always said he's happy with our central midfield which shows no understanding of any other way to break teams down. He repeatedly critices defenders but our goals against tally isn't bad. It's painful to look at our goals scored column but I guess we'll just keep on trying to get it wide [ zzzzzz].

I have been away for a while and come back to a squad with several fresh faces. Surely the team now needs a period of stability, and a chance to bed in. Please, AS, choose your best team, with nobody out of position, and give them a run of games together, injuries permitting, and let's see what they can do.

I f***king hate comments like these. Utterly baseless. Constructive criticism should never be discouraged, it's part and parcel of football, but some of the abusive crap that's spouted by people really gets to me.

After all, it took f*** all bottle for a bloke with a potentially life threatening heart condition to pick himself up, push on and make a successful career in management did it ?

Agree with the first half of that statement re Kettering being a credit to the non league teams. However although I have some serious concerns about the style of football that is played I think the second part of your comment regarding bottle to be totaly out of order,

I cant imagine for one minute that the final comment to the players before they go out is to the effect that the players should not play their hardest. Lets face it we are all concerned about the season to date and I am sure that both Scott and Bullivant would far rather we were at the top of the table than at the bottom.

The question of the style we play is I will agree a concern as it does seem to consist of plan A get the ball to strevens/Mac and see what happens, I would far rather we played the ball on the ground from defence to attack and this is something I have advocated throughout Scotts reign. Unfortunately for whatever reason I cant see any change forthcoming, whether that is because Scott beleives the players cant do it or whether he prefers this system only he knows. However he will be judged on results and it is up to him to determine whether a change in style will play dividends or not.

As a final point I beleive it is good that posters on here can post sensible criticism regarding team/managerial performances however to make ridiculous points as per your assertion is I beleive a pointless exercise and possibly reflects more on the poster than on the content of the post.

Agree with every word here, bar just the one. Scott's heart condition was more than just 'potentially' life threatening, being serious enough that it ended his playing career. As a player, he was a trier despite his limitations as a striker. Despite recent results and questionable man-management techniques, I have never lost the impression that he has the same traits as a manager.

The one thing he doesn't lack is bottle.

Let's stop all this criticizing we are all in this together. Our defence has improved in recent matches and I feel we need to bring Bennett back into the side to show his leadership qualities which are sorely missed.
Our midfield lacks power and dominance and to solve this I would put LEON LEGGE into midfield, whilst he will become a very good centre half his rolhe as a midfield player are more urgently needed.LEON has the ability to score goals ,has tremendous heading power and will add support to both the back four and the forwards.
I would suggest a 4 ,1,3,2 formation with LEON the link up in front of the back four.
In passing I would like to thank THE PIPE on his comments.

I'm not sure that would be a good idea. I don't think playing an inexperienced centre half out of position is the answer.

I'm sure rhprice was referring to Scott's apparent lack of adventure in going for a 0-0 at Tranmere when a win should have been the objective. Maybe an apology for any misunderstanding would put things right. Greenland is correct in condemning all this criticism - it certainly makes reading the posts unpleasant.

I shall rescind the lack of bottle comment, it didn't accurately or fairly explain what i want to say , though for the life of me cannot see the relevance of his health problems, many carrying greater burdens carry on regardless, and i'm sure he would not want it mentioned in a professional context. I clumsily set about drawing attention to some of this seasons second half performances falling short of the skill level seen in the first half. Could this be due to an over cautious tactical half time team talk?
I am not questioning his courage in his personal life, some on here need to get a grip.

Thanks for clarifying your original post, I certainly would not disagree with your assertion that some of the second half performmances have been cautious, in fact we have discussed this on the terraces and beleive that Scott has a fairly pragmatic approach in that ensuring we dont lose is always his preference, unfortunately this season we are not even acheiving this.

I would love to see a more cavalier approach but unfortunately I do not think that is in Scotts make up, whether in the final analysys this lack of adventure will be his downfall remains to be seen.
