Personally I believe we will have a heavy flirtation with relegation, but somehow avoid the drop.[/QUOTE]

Well thats something to look forward to.:(

The Andy Scott Thread

For me this debate is a relatively simple one. Andy Scott is a championship winning manager in his first full season as manager. Everyone would agree that although League 2 was weak you do not win any league by luck or by mistake. There is scarce little loyalty in life thesedays and especially in football. Sacking AS would be simply ludicrous, even if we did go down. Who better to take us back up than a manager who has proven himself at that level.
I see AS in the same way you would see a good mate that is going off the rails a bit and making some bad decisions in his life. Do you drop him, no, you stick by your mate, support him and hope he works things out. At the same time however it is perfectly acceptable to dish out some home truths for their own good and tell them where you think they are going wrong, albeit via a messageboard :D

The Andy Scott Thread

Anyone at Exeter will be hard pushed to think that we will avoid relegation this season, there lies the basis of this thread methinks. Even at 2 down during HT I was telling everyone who was near me that we would still win, I don't know if I believed it but why would you bother being there if you aren't optimistic? Will we go down? For the first time this season I am worried, I still think we will survive but don't ask me or 574 others how we will after watching that.

The Andy Scott Thread

That point is actually very unfair to a group of people who worked hard on attracting the man with the cash.
We were rubbish a few weeks ago and getting worse, it's not fickle to be peed off after another disgusting defeat. Nobody seriously wants Scott out but maybe we want some fight back in our side and the crap areas taken care of. It cost me £100 to watch that crap at the weekend and that will soon stop, others have already said enough is enough, that's not being fickle that's being realistic about what you are getting for your time and money.

As NB has quite rightly said, no one really wants AS sacked. I just wish blunstone and fencer/bee would come off their high horses and stop referring to those that don't get to most matches. I am one of those as distance and work commitments prevent me doing so, but I still spend a hell of a lot of money in many ways supporting this club just as many others do, and although I agree with your views re not sacking AS, I believe, due to the amount of money I put into this club, I have a right to voice my opinion even if it had of been to sack AS.:(

You talk as it is. We all want AS and the team to do well. It just hurts when you spend £100 and feel there might be some thing wrong.

scottys missing the boat

Its quite simple we all want to see three or one points a lot more often than were getting at the moment. So its either the players roll there socks up or scotty which do you think is going to happen first :fishing::fishing:

The Andy Scott Thread

Did you actually watch the programme?

She said that they ha heard that MA would be sacked by Wednesday.

 sorry mate was only trying to stir up a bit of a debate. I must confess i never even saw the show, i dozed off, Also the fishing smilie was a bit of a clue to the MA comment. I personally dont think raking over old coals is the answer.but i believe scotty has lost the midas touch, and maybe the dressing room

Name names please.

No more having a go at "you lot" without describing who you mean please.
I'm actually getting really fecked off with the same old "fickle" cliched sh*te being used, we are crap at the the moment and we want more from our team. Nobody seriously thinks that Scott should be sacked, I'd imagine 1 in 1,000 might but such is life.

They know who they are.

The Andy Scott Thread

Couldn't agree more.

Things aren't good at present and there is much to work on.

However we are higher than the other three sides that got promoted with us.

Maddog took Cheltenham down last year and they are struggling this year, why does a previous good spell in charge mean he will be the answer to our current problems?

All managers go through rough spells. We need stability at this club and whatever peoples views of Scotty one thing I do know is he bleeds red and white and he will be hurting as much as any of us with recent performances.

Let him show us if he has the ability to turn this rough spell around. Sacking every manager we have after a bad, but fairly short term, run of results and performances is ridiculous.

Agree with what you say, AS is doing better than the other Managers who came up last year (so far), but I suspect we are on a downward slide and I dont think we can arrest this with current squad, we are not going to suddenly start scoring lots of goals, and I dont think we are going to make much improvement in defence with the current squad, I think we need more pace upfront, in midfield and defence

The Andy Scott Thread

I cannot believe I am reading such negative comments about AS, the guy has done wonders since the first day he took over. Yes we are going through a bad patch but it was going to happen sooner or later. Surely he deserves the chance to put things right and he also deserves our support. It just goes to show how fickle fans are. Now is the time to get behind the team and the manager and do what we are there for....SUPPORT!!!!

I will stick up for the defence again, I agree they are not playing well at the moment. The defence are playing with the fear at the moment, if they let in a goal at moment they know, the forwards and midfielder are not likely to score. Sides playing against us also relise this, and just pile extra players forward knowing the chances of us scoring are very little. Sort the midfield and forwards out, and the defence will look after itself.

I had unconditional love from my 3 kids till they grew up and realised I wasn't superman. Now I'm just a cash machine.

Fickle? We haven't played since Charlton, and even then we were nothing but a brave fist. All this talk of 'pushing on' to the top ten has been spin at best, who are they trying to kid?

I agree he deserves time for his efforts, but I'm not sure he has the character to admit he's ever wrong.

We'll see.

Luckily for me my dog still loves me at mealtimes.

It appears tpo me that AS allways blaims his players, yet he should take the responsibility for what goes on. first we had to watch playrs playing out of posistion now the players are in there right posistion the problems are still the same, does AS think he is God and can do no wrong, its about time the BFC board had him in for a chat as I think he is now clearly past his sale by date.
The performancs yesterday ranks in my five worse displays ever along with yeovil, and I have been watching the bees for 47 years. :mad1:

Have people looked at the league results and table?

We are currently somewhere near where I think we will finish. Maybe others had expectations above where we truly are.
2 wins and we are back in the play off hunt and 2 losses and we could be in relegation area. Its a fine line between doing well and not doing well. There will be many twists and turns and no doubt some movement in & out in January. My first aim is 50 points then take it from there.
Dario Gradi has taken Crewe up and down the bottom 3 divisions in the last 25years. Poor form didn't see him sacked and yet there are many who have in the past mentioned Crewe as a formula of success that we should try and emulate. Yet a run of poor form sees the some of those same people calling for a managers head.

A fair point. Inoffensive ChitChat would be a better description.
My point was that you only seem to post when you judge things to be bleak.
Slating the start to the 08/09 campaign, damning some of the team at Dagenham that would lift the title about a week later and now calling for a change of manager after just 15 odd games this season.
Thats a lot worse than idle ChitChat in my book.

The Andy Scott Thread

Sorry but this is a stupid thread.

There's been FAR too many managerial changes this season it's ridiculous.

Andy Scott is in his first job, managing in a tough League One for the first time with a squad made up of many players that are young and inexperienced at this level too. They are talented though.

Both he and the players are going to struggle at stages like most teams would do. The trick is getting out of this bad patch and winning 2 or 3 games on the spin then we should be perfectly fine.

You'll never progress very far if you keep chopping and changing managers as soon as you start to struggle.

Scott built a team last year and guiding them to the title after having a season of experience in that league previously.

It's gonna take us some time to find our feet in this one and we'll be inconsistent, whilst it's frustrating, away from the championship winning optimism I'd say it's not unexpected.

Our main goal this year is to consolidate in this league and we have the players AND the management to do that.

Good things come to those who wait, support the club and reap the benefits when they do eventually come. :sorted:

I never asked for AS to go, just stating what i thought should happen, ie maybe a chat with the powers to be, he would maybe see the errors he has been making. I do appreciate that to get rid of te manager now would be maybe a knee jerk reaction, but something clearly needs to be done otherwise basement divsion here we come.

give Tinman till christmas at the very least, the f**ham clown. you were all declaring your love for him earlier in the season and saying he was better than maddog, coppell etc and other drivel you gpg freaks. he will bring in a couple of quality loan signings shortly to shut everyone up i reckon. I agree with the essence of this point, I would like to see some real long-term stability as well.

The problem is that there are few fanbases with that level of patience these days and also very few managers with that level of loyalty as well. And with Brentford being at the average level we've been at for the last 30 years, you'll find that if we're perilously close to Division Four then fans want to see heads roll. On the other hand, if we get near the play-offs then the nerves kick in every time a rival club loses a manager.

I can't see another Dario Gradi turning up anywhere any time soon.

The Andy Scott Thread

3 wins in 17.Not great though is it. Terry and Leroy territory that is....for sure

Undeniable

Only thing I would add is this squad is much better than in either of those dark days.

I actually think we have a squad of players who could do well in this division which is what is so frustrating at the moment... under Leroy it was obvious from early days that ( with one or two exceptions) they were at conference level at best ( where most of them now are).

The Andy Scott Thread

Unfortunately too much in football these days is based on short term results. If we are to achieve what Crewe or Hull or Wigan etc etc have done it requires building for a longer term plan, which is slower and takes time. That is why it is so important to keep Andy Scott as he is young and learning himself, but in time will prove how good he is IMO. Hence you cannot judge him over 15 games (albeit frustrating), why not judge him over all the games he has been in charge and you will find that in percentage terms of points won he is probably in the top 5 all time Brentford managers and maybe in the top 3. I should not be surprised in that some of our supporters are calling for his head after such a short time in Lge 1, after all we are not any different from any other club in that aspect (although we might like to think we are). What always amazes me is that teams often recruit a new manager who has been sacked from another club for not achieving? Why would he be successful at another club? All I can say is that we are more likely to be successful if we are all pulling in the same direction, this does not mean the manager should not be questioned or criticised in a constructive manner, but some of the comments on here are way over the top. The sign of a good manager in a crisis is for him to keep his head whilst those all around him are losing theirs. A positive result on Saturday could make all the difference for the remainder of the season, come on you BEES.....

Brilliant, I remember our manager suggesting that we should be looking at the top rather than the bottom after our start but "we" were being unrealistic. sh*t words throughout the whole interview if they are what he actually said.

I'm not sure what issues you have with that.

I can't see the word "unrealistic" and this seems to be following a pattern he has used throughout the season.

It's not untrue to say we are well behind financially compared to at least half the teams in this league but I can't see anywhere that he is happy with that. In fact, completely the opposite, he says he feels we should have more points and be higher up the table, despite the financial handicap.

The Andy Scott Thread

Maybe it's me then but that line about unrealistic ambitions or whatever was said is a stones throw away from the "thick pratts" accusation many years ago. AS said that we should aim for the top and I'm sure mentioned the POs, what's the point of thinking that isn't achievable at the start of the season?
I might come across as an angry moaner on here but trust me I arrive at every away ground thinking our sh*t doesn't stink, that we belong and are better than them. The result doesn't always back me up but I hate hearing negative words like this coming from the manager. We've competed for years with teams way beyond our financial reach, I never heard Webb, Holder, Perryman etc go public about this hardship.
I actually think that we have 5 or 6 points too many for our efforts this season, Carlisle could have been bad at HT, Norwich were low and we took advantage, Southend was spawny......I don't want him to go but I feel that many fans like a lot about our squad but are worried about the handling of them at the moment.

The Andy Scott Thread

The only thing I would say is that AS has said a number of times this season "we're better than x but didn't show it today". Is he now sayng that we're not - and when and why did he change his mind?

The Andy Scott Thread

I can see "raised expectations", which is a little different IMHO.

Again, that's not what I read.

In his press conferences - when we have been beaten - he has often said he feels his team should be beating the opposition but did not play well enough/defend well enough/stick to the plan and therefore didn't (whether everyone listening agrees is a different matter).

This sounds to me very much like we should have five or six more points but have not done well enough to earn them, which is what he says here.

I go along with all that,I hate all the excuses regarding size of budget compaired to other teams. If he thinks thats how a league is decided every season he might as well pack it in now.Why are Leeds still in our league?why did Blackpool S****horpe Barnsley survive in the Championship and Charlton Norwich and Southampton get relegated. Why didnt Shrewsbury walk away with Div 2 title last season its a poor excuse to cover up his management short comings, no I dont want him to go but still give him the next 6 league games to show he is up to Managing at this club with an what i believe to be an "adequate" budget.

The Andy Scott Thread

I suppose the good to come out of that is that we are already in the 2nd Round of the FA Cup.

The Andy Scott Thread

:D Set up to come back to bite him.

Not at all, I expect and hope to be the 2nd round and don't believe that just because we are full time, well paid with better facilities and players than our oppo that we are destined for victory. Thankfully football doesn't work that way. I read something that spiked me, we're in the sh*t and excuses won't get us out or are needed IMO at this moment.

I'm sure Andy's got one of the better wage budgets than we've had for a while, although abee or Bee H can correct me if I'm wrong.

He certainly seems to have had some of his confidence knocked out of him.

As far as I'm aware we have never been one of the moneybags clubs in this division but previous managers have managed to make us competitive enough to reach the play-offs and one of them even managed to get us promoted. I can't believe Holder's budget was huge in comparison with the rest of the division, although again I stand to be corrected.

Surely the key with a budget is to make sure that whatever it amounts to it is spent well.

Since the second world war our average league position has been 58th (i.e. 14th in League One as currently constituted). As Northampton Bee says, the likes of Holder and Perryman (and bogeyman MA) have punched above this, with short but thankfully brief periods in the bottom division to put us back in our place. We're currently 16th, so as they say in Gateshead Plus ça change...

The Andy Scott Thread

Yes this division is stronger than usual this term, however I fail to see why a club of our size, can't rightly claim to see itself on a par or above, certainly not to be over-awed by the likes of Swindon, Walsall, Hartlepool, Orient, Brighton, (the 3 other promoted teams) Carlisle, Stockport etc.
