The Bright Side

Consider this:

The top of the table club, Port Vale, has the same number of away league victories as Brentford

Only three clubs have more than one league victory more than Brentford does

Queens Park Rangers and Bristol City have fewer away wins than Brentford

Tranmere Rovers have fewer victories than Brentford

Only eleven of the twenty four Division Two clubs have more victories than Brentford

The Bright Side

We haven't started yet.

6 points from the next two games.

Bring them on.:)

Port Vale at the top??...anyone? anyone?

Other 'brighter side' news was the remarkable decision to play Somner on the right and Fieldwick on the left. Why didn't we think of that?!?

NOW: Instead of moving a healthy Dobson to RB and moving Somner to the left, how's about Dobbo in the holding role in midfield instead of Eddie or Jay????

Roll on Tuesday!!

The Bright Side

For the last 2 games we have had Fieldwick at left back, it has perhaps shown why Somner has been playing there for most of this season and last.
We all agree that Matt is not a natural at left back and I am happy to concede that a left footed left back makes sense however Fieldwicks positional play and distribution in the last 2 matches have been particularly poor. A few well timed tackles do not make a good left full back.
With no disrespect I trust that when Frampton recoveres from his fractured skull or the loan player from Chelsea is match fit they cn play in this role and relese Dobson to centre midfield.

Edmundo contributed a recent message that seemed to say the Chelsea loaners had gone home. Is that not the case?

Totally agree, Fieldwick was wandering around lost for a lot of the game and a good percentage of the left back job was done by Hunt. His positioning need a lot of work.

I think Wally will always give Somner the nod because he's better and more experienced, and managers always seem to prefer experience.

The Bright Side

Indeed, Somner (20 years old) instead of Fieldwick (19 years old) because of his greater experience. Leave Fieldwick on the bench until he gains some experience!

but how is fieldwick supposed to get experience if he doesnt get any games under his belt. play mat somner at centre back and fieldwick at left back. lets get behind the team and support them to victory

The Bright Side

Is he?!? My mistake.

I think Wally should stick with him - Somner's not the long term solution on the left and he'll not get experience without playing. Let Frampton and Fieldwick battle for that spot this year.

Fieldwick was 21 on the day we played Plymouth. He looked in a daze as if someone had whacked him around the head.Could be better as a wide player on the left to cover for Hunt.Left back:nono:

Absolutely agree! Keep Fieldwick at left back and let him grow into the position by gaining experience!

Somner has put in some awful performances at left back this season and he is definitely not the answer in that position. I'm convinced when he's played there that a wave of no confidence spreads to the rest of defence and midfield. Fieldwick didn't play too badly in the Oldham home victory though he did tire towards the end but the midfield that day including Jay Smith seemed to be inspired. And the stats prove that we have won more games with Fieldwick playing in the team at leftback! So let's continue with him in that position and keep Somner at right back.

I would definitely try out Dobson in midfield but his performances at right back this season have ranged from average to shocking so I wouldn't be in a rush to play him at right back even though the position has been his for some time...I'd drop Smith and play Dobson in his place. I personally feel that the team's captain should be a midfielder as taht position is a good link between defence and the forward line.

But as far as I'm concerned, everytime Wally plays Somner at left back we're onto a loser and I know I'm not the only fan he winds up by making that selection
