The FT Index

The last bit of Forster's Number 9 finally came loose from my mid nineties blue and white thicked stripe away shirt this morning

It got me thinking about the good old days, the brace on his debut at Plymouth the link up play, What have we got now is a version of the AIM - No Risk, Low Reward :fishing:

Anyone care to share their memories of those halcyon days ? :computer:

Didn't we have a front line of Asaba Forster Taylor and Bent for a short period of time?

The FT Index

That could be the FAT B Index, They were the favoured frontline of the Paddock Faithful for many months

:love2:

That first half at Shrewsbury Town when Asaba scored three in the first twenty minutes. We were murdering them.

Makes you think how the standard has slipped in this division, because that 1996-7 side (until Forster was sold) would have been unbeatable in today's League One. (Or is it just my red-and-white tinted glasses of nostalgia?)

5-1 away at Plymouth Argyle. What a day! We battered some teams that year.

The FT Index

What a strike force! Asaba and Forster would run all day.

Did Asaba get a hat-trick at home to York City when we drew 3-3?

The FT Index

Agreed - I watched the video of that season a few months ago that had gathered dust in the drawer.
Some of the goals Forster and Taylor got that year were top drawer. Forster's home goal against Wrexham - 30 yard volley. 2 in the first 4 mins at home to Gills, etc. Taylor's clever lobs, etc.
Plymouth Argyle away that year would make it into my top 10 away days following the Bees.:)

I would love to see some of these old videos's..Bring back some great memories.

Whatever Webb's later crimes you have to give him a hell of a lot of credit for the team he assembled following the relegation season. His brief was to cut costs (players on championship equivalent salaries) and create a new team and within 18 months we'd got probably the best team since I've followed the Bees(1970). The travesty of missing promotion by finishing 2nd and missing out to Huddersfield Town in the p/o still hurts but the run we went on from Christmas to our usual end of season hiccup in April was stunning. Goals and entertainment galore! ...Happy days !

Fave Forster moment was the winner in the 4-3 win over Bradford at GP in his debut season. What a game... 1-0 down, 1-1, 2-1 down, 2-2, 3-2 down, 3-3, and then Forster smacks in the winner. Went through every emotion possible in that game!

They went under I think, it was the best around at the time by far. The current crop aren't worth bothering with at all.

The FT Index era was the most enjoyable times of watching the Bees for me personally :) :happydayssmilie:

I still have that article sitting somewhere, along with an interview they did with Carl Hutchings.
Great magazine, truly missed. Almost as much as the FT Index.

I was in that once. Was interviewed (with my bees shirt on) at QPR vs MK Dons :fishing: while Bees were playing up North, I was only young you know.

Think Wimbledon won one nil, with maybe or maybe not an Alan Kimble winner :computer:

In fact, come to think about it, I was wearing the aforementioned away shirt

The most forgiven miss of all time I reckon.

He and Blissett were saviours in desperate times really when they should have been elsewhere.

His 45 yarder at Bristol City in the play offs and his golden goal in the Leyland DAF along with the Huddersfield miss are always ones I remember for some reason over all the goals and skills.

About time the Brentford Hall of Fame was launched IMO. :sorted:

FT were the perfect combination, at our level anyway. Taylor was the best all round striker we have had IMHO, he looked a bit slow and cumbersome but this hid a real talent and for a big bloke he could play...who can forget that 6-0 demolition of Cambridge

Forster on his day was unstoppable as at Cardiff away ( we won 3-2.. I think) when he was just brilliant.

Forster was a fully fledged England U-21 international in those days
