The John Halls thread
Has he played alongside Bennett at Reading? If he has, that's a bonus. Winning 1-0 for the rest of the season would be alright by me.
Good signing but I don't know if there's any left in the kitty for a striker unless we've got players moving out loan soon.
Good signing. Should get a haircut though.
Andy said: "We have agreed a contract with John until the end of the season on the proviso that should a club from a higher level wish to sign him we will not stand in his way. He is very confident in his own ability and that attitude, together with his experience, should prove invaluable to us. It actually says a lot about the Club that we are now able to attract players of this type."
Does he mean he can be poached from us mid-season or only in the summer?
Pead, maybe?
Is that only at the end of the season ?
Could be O'Connor too? A pure guess.

Love the fact this has been posted on their website near to the time the club announced his signing!
If they let him go in his testimonial season i would be very surprised and unhappy.![]()

Any final decision would be up to Kevin though. This is all pure speculation BTW.

I think this is a good signing but we don't want another Jason Price type situation.
It's no good for him to be on the bench at his age and no good for us having a high earner who isn't first choice.![]()

This is different, we can replace in the January window and let's face it, he's got to play like Pele to move and that would benefit us regardless. It's a little known fact that Noades gave the go ahead for Price to get a year when he signed but Copell said three months only as he wasn't convinced.
Although it's by the by, I'm still to be convinced that Kev shouldn't be first choice. Bean still has plenty to do to persuade me that he warrants a starting place in front of KOC.
good signing hope he goes in right back and push newton into right mid i think elder will be happy with this as newton can put in a very good cross

Whats wrong with williams![]()

not as good as newton
Williams can but you are of course assuming Newton can, and better, even though he has had little chance to prove ithe can't cross!!!

But Newton can't dribble as well or run as quick
i will hold you to that dribbling part
but williams is quicker
i will hold you to that dribbling part
but williams is quicker

i haven't seen him play right mid apart from 45 mins on saturday and a friendly but when going forward looking to get a cross in he has got more technical ability & intelligence than williams all i have seen from williams is he runs in a straight line and his cross always gets blocked by a defender with newton he goes past his man and puts in a good cross and has set-up elder a fair few times.Apart from 45 minutes last saturday, how often have you seen him play there to make this profound assumption?.![]()
You are not holding my dribbling part!![]()
Striker needed.
Dont see why when we have: Newton / O'Connor / Pead who can all play RB
None of them are as good as Halls, though, are they? I can't remember who it was that said that right-back is the most important position in the team. If he was right, it's worth getting the right man in.
If we can improve the quality of the squad within budget then this is all to the good. There will be natural wastage and who knows if other players will eave in January.
Newton ahead of Williams for the right side spot would be madness, we need to be more attacking, so therefore Williams wins this hands down.
Wes Brown?
Although the R&TT report says that Halls has not been made an offerthere is another statement that seems to have been overlooked: "... with Williams likely to be missing due to the imminent birth of his new baby."
So all the mindless speculation about players leaving and the relative merits of Williams as the next David Beckham, perhaps a bang on the head and a new arrival means that Scott has taken the opportunity presented to him to sign up a player that has a good pedigree. And John Halls has a deal that keeps him fit and puts him in the shop window.
Personally, I thought that Newton was quite productive at right mid-field, although not possessing a winger's turn of speed, but able to get the ball into the box nevertheless.
That's not necessarily a bad thing for a defensive player... ask Terry Hurlock! What a pikey photo on the offical site. But Still a great great signing
