Surely the constraints would have been outlined at the very start of the interviewing process.

If 6 months notice was all that was available, why did Patterson think he was still in negotiation when the job went to Fitz?

I can't understand how easily we have got over this madness. A complete about turn to the long and detailed outline for the recruitment process with the comedy bit thrown in at the end for good measure.

It was quite clear that Fitz wanted the job all along. He must have been the board's plan B in the event that any first choice candidate didn't want the job. The club would not have gone about this by underlining how turd a job it was. Maybe they didn't reveal the finer contractual details until the prospective candidate had accepted the day to day nature of his position (ie/ no cash, poop squad). Having said he's interested in the job, Patterson doesn't like the details of the contract he's being offered. Board decide they don't want him enough to change it. They offer the job to Fitz. I fail to see any potential for conspiracy theories.

A very interesting question jmcp, but not one I that I know the answer to, unfortunately. I would say that we were in what seemed like a far more stable position before offering Leroy the job last Summer. Any offers we made this Christmas would have to take into account the way things look now (plus payoffs to our ex manager and other things that have peed cash up the wall) and would therefore have to be accordingly cautious. I am not going to argue that Leroy wasn't a balls-up.

Not sure on that. But MA was only on 3 months notice per the OS last summer.

His version in the Oxford locals a couple of weeks ago read to me that the negtotians fell down on the 6 months or 1 year notice also.

...apart from the world and his wife being leaked (Monday evening, either pre BFC Board meeting or after) that Patterson and Waddock would be our new managerial team and press conference/whatever was being planned for that Tuesday...you have to ask why were certain people tipped off, including Bees United (their website was 'updated' to reflect the new team)...if things werent close to being concluded....something must have happened at the last minute....

The Bees United board was told on Tuesday morning that BFC were entering into negotiations with Patterson & Waddock. As would be expected an article was prepared to welcome the new management team. The website wasn't "updated" to reflect the new team. When the article was updated before being released with Scott's name, a person that shall remain nameless because MarkFFC might get embarrassed, forgot to update the name of the assistant. That is all.

Why risk ruining your career in 6 months here?

i`d imagine that was the way he was thinking. Any prospective managers who watched any of the 4-0 home thrashings (or even the 1-0 Donny game when we were also dire) must have had second thoughts about being able to keep us up.
They may have known about the Fighting Chance appeal but if they thought that would cover a couple of loan players short-term it wouldnt make much difference

Theres hundreds of coaches and ex-pros desperate for a league management opportunity, but obviously in DPs case hes got a cushy job at Oxford and although he would have taken some risk if he`d taken the job here he clearly wasnt willing to take too much of a gamble and being a "one-hit wonder" manager......and possibly on the football scrapheap in 6 months.
That said, if he had taken the job and we did a Stockport anyway there would be lots of fans complaining if we had to find a cheque for 12 months money to pay off DP

Fitz obviously took the job as hes probably desperate for a crack at management and is well respected within GP. Was he brave or stupid, time will tell. But there has been a gradual improvement...... and he needs time and the fans support IMHO

I think he deserves the chance to build a squad for next season too. I'm ready for incoming on this.

Patterson was chosen by the four. That's what got the rumour mills flying. However something came up when it came to agreeing terms which Brickie is alluding to here.

Patterson himself has said he "was offered the job on a 2 1/2 year deal". Negotiations appear to have broken down on the terms of the notice period should BFC want rid. With both parties appearing to be saying much the same. I agree that 6 month notice is more than ample, especially for someone still to cut their teeth in league management.

DP wasnt out of work though and may be on better terms at Oxford, hence perhaps he thought hes better off to wait for another opportunity which may not be perceievd as so much of a poisoned chalice

I might be missing the point but i have took it to mean Patterson was offered a 2 and a half year deal but we could have sacked him from day 1 and he would have been entitled to six months pay.

I agree, it doesnt sound right at all... when he says 'notice period' does he mean what we take it to mean or does he really mean 6 months probation period? From what Patterson was saying it sounded more like the latter..

6 months notice is plenty of time to find another job and I can't see why it would have been a sticking point..
