The MD Interview

What are your views on this everybody?

The only thing I got from this is that it is a probability that the next manager will be an upcoming young manager.

The MD Interview

"the truth is that we were way below where we should be (compared to the 19, yes 19! pubs within 1 mile) and even losing money on jug deals. This stops now."

:banghead:

Alternatively, we could seek an 'up and coming' young manager who is proving himself in the Conference, or is an assistant somewhere but seeks now to run his own 'show'. These are just two examples, from a number that we're considering.

Why !?

Why the f*ck is that thought even coming into his head?

If he is tasked with appointing a manager who is going to save us from relegation, then why waste time "considering" those examples?

The club took a big "gamble" at the start of the season ... and it didn't work.

We are now in deep sh*t ... big gamble at this time = not good. End of.

I really do give up.

"Tim nice but dim" can piss off back to Proctor & Gamble and to his management school buddies. He can shove his kubler-ross curve up his arse.

Two sides to every story though surely - Martin Allen and Leroy Rosenior. I reckon we should be looking at young, hungry, innovative managers. Doesn't mean they have to be sh*t and I would ask why an older head is available in the first place if they're that good?

From what I recall, we were dead in the water mid March 04.

What Allen achieved was a miracle. Leaving it that late in the season to get rid of Downes didn't give any new manager much of a chance.

But he did it. He was a short term impact manager. They don't grow on trees.

Now we've actually given ourselves a fighting chance this season by getting rid of LR in November.

If we're banking on another Allen, then we've got just as much chance winning the lottery this weekend.

Nothing is guaranteed no matter who we appoint .... I'll give you that.

But on a roulette table, you stand a better chance of winning if you bet on a colour (50/50) .... rather than betting on one number out of 36.

With me?

If an older head is available, then he's either "between work" ... or fussy. In which case Dickens had better use his "persuasive power" .... skills any good MD should have imho.

The MD Interview

I don't think there's anything to get up-in-arms about...he's part of a team who are going to select a suitable candidate. Also good to note that they are asking people in football for opinions before selection.

The only thing I got from this is that it is a probability that the next manager will be an upcoming young manager.

I actually thought that, despite his rather annoying management speak and positive thinking obsession, he came across very well. He seems to have grasped pretty much what is going on/wrong and is keen to address it..

I for one am glad that they're exploring every avenue for the new manager. This is an unbelievably important appointment and if it was wrong to appoint Leroy on the basis that he was the opposite of MA, then it's equally wrong to just appoint someone who's the opposite of Leroy.

Other interesting points were, as Banana pointed out, losing money hand over fist at the pub. How on earth was that allowed to happen in the first place?? Also a throw away comment suggesting that Lionel Road was nearer a probability than a possibility...

Equally he doesnt seem to believe the club can survive with the current structure, so it will be interesting to hear what his ideas are on this...

IMO he's sounding more and more like a positive appointment for us, certainly a lot better than the previous incumbent..

Second from bottom with a dire team, and Dickens is taking the time to consider "an assistant somewhere but seeks now to run his own 'show'"

No, I'm sorry IsleofWight_Bee, I'm not only up in arms, I'm also looking to kick the sh*te out of the next cat that considers sh*tting in my garden.

I will tell you this now. When Dickens sheds tears over poor results, it is not for the same reasons we do.

Can you remember what Adrian Boothroyd's position in football before he was at Watford. Certainly wasn't a manager. :fishing:

The MD Interview

A couple of names to counter that argument - Peter Grant and Ady Boothroyd. If an assistant of that calibre wanted to cut his teeth at Brentford, I'd be more than happy.

First Team coach at Leeds United

Anyway ... my kitchen is on fire ...... now I'm going to take my time to consider whether I should phone pizza hut, or dial 999.

The MD Interview

I thought it was quite a good interview. He is positive and a lot of what he says makes sense. Some people are only happy when they are complaining. Who will want to come to Brentford if all they receive is stick? Things needed changing because we wont survive without change.

I think you know exactly what I mean - the right candidate might not be a current boss. Do you want this appointment rushed or howabout we take a couple of weeks to select the right person rather than wading in size 12 style.

I think the process is far more robust this time and will perhaps lead to a better appointment.

Who will want to come to Brentford eh !

Somebody grateful for a wage perhaps?

Or does he work for free .... love of the club and all that.

I don't give a rats arse if you think everything is hunky dory and nobody should moan.

I'm a forth generation bee .... I love my club ... and if I've got a view, I will express it on this message board. That's why the gpg is so successful. It's for news and views. I have a view ... I will express it ... so what's your problem?

That sounds good.

But Dickens could save a lot of time and help my blood pressure by crossing off coco the clown from his list of possibilities.

..... imho. ;)

Boothroyd i'd agree with as for Grant. He's had about five games.

They've been thrashed twice away from home twice (one by Ipswich)
won one home game and drawn with lowly Hull
They fluked a win against West Brom away with a smash and grab.

Also headlines in local papers up here is he slagged off the Norwich fans lol , don't think he's done all that well just yet.

Although I would say Nigel Pearson looked promising at West Brom beat Ipswich 5-0 in his last game away and was rather unlucky to not get the job full time.

The MD Interview

He strikes me as a guy who will get it right "behind the scenes" in due course and amen to that.

As for the next manager its a gamble whoever we employ and an "old hat" is just a big a risk as "up and coming manager".

Its a judgment call and I am glad i don't have to make it!

I agree on each of these points Stanley!

Agree.

Guess we all want to hear, "we've got a great new young manager lined up" or "An experience trouble shooter guaranteed to keep us up has agreed to come" but sadly it's highly unlikely. Given that I'm glad there is a robust process designed to give us the best chance of getting the correct person in place.

The MD Interview

So, has anyone come up with any names of who they would like to see take the job?

Sorry I didn't realise it was your club? Nobody could love 'our' club more than me. As for you being a fourth generation, all my family are and always have been Bees Supporters. In fact my children and grandchildren are also.

All I was saying is that the MD should be given a chance because he appears to talk sense.

As for the new manager. I am against all these managerial merry-go-rounds. It always amazes me that the same names appear time and again when they have failed at other clubs. I would prefer a younger manager with new fresh ideas.

Yes, but he's right about that, isn't he? Some people are only happy when they are complaining. As for whether or not he was directing that at you, my mum's advice was always, "If the cap fits, wear it."

I don't know whether I'm a typical supporter, but Mr Dickens is certainly communicating very well with me.

This is much better than those highly selective fans' questions that used to appear on the website in a previous era, and the hopelessly anodyne replies.

PG actually asks some tough questions and gets an answer. Can you imagine how the previous regime would have reacted to being asked about Leroy's leaving package? In any event, it would never have appeared on the official website.

I hope that the Keith and Pete show becomes a regular feature.

My only quibble is that the signage is updated each time; I hadn't realised that the current piece was a fresh interview.

Agree, didn't realise PG had it in him. :sorted:

Good interview, a little (fecking cacking myself) worried about the fitness thing.

Scotty comes in and takes his lap top and gear down to the training ground to do fitness tests on the players.

Wouldn't this have been done before the season started? :fishing:

Calne Bee quote

There has been a quite a few applicants apparently, the closing date is this Friday and there is alot of sh*t sifting to be done.

As for your smart arse quote :sorted:

Not sure I've got the right end of this stick but... as a fans' run club in the future we may need people in key positions MD, Chairman and others who are not in love with the club in the way we are. The emotional distance may be helpful in making some of the big choices that are ahead of us.

PS I'm impressed with Mr K.D. so far he has brought some much needed structure and management common sense to the club.

Never heard of fax...?

so what are you doing on here then, throwing in your tuppence worth on the way our MD is running things?

oh :fishing: btw...

or am i?

Seems to me that KD is being dammed if he does - and being dammed if he doesnt on this board.

A bit of business sense in the running of the club (and this is is no way meant to show any disrespect to BU) has been badly needed for some time now. KD may well speak a different language to that which some of us use on here but hey lets give the man a chance - at least one season - to prove himself.
