You had to be there I suppose.

However, it is interesting how people think that they speak for the "silent majority".

Can anyone explain?

The Silent Majority

You claim to be speaking for the silent majority when you are on the losing side of a vote in which not every single eligible voter or potential voter or anyone else you can think of has participated.

Anyway ... he resigned, he lost the vote and now it's all over - maybe it's time to (a) draw a line under it and (b) move on!

But does this now mean that F Hall will be once again "jumping up and down in D block". ;)
Also very strange that silent majority are right, but the vociferous minority are w***kers.

The Silent Majority

I'm disappointed to see the silent majority take such harsh criticism. Don't you realise they were the inventors of the phrase "I'm not a racist but..." and other such gems of wisdom? It's pure vitriol I tell you :(

The Silent Majority

This is what Clive Lewry had to say at the SGM

BIAS has said that 150 BU members support this motion including over half the BU board - it should say the recently elected BU Board

Why will this motion be succussful? Because of a small group of people who are organised and there will make sure tonight that they are here in numbers to make sure their motion is passed. Nevertheless they are a small group of people. 150 names represents only 10 to 15% of Bees United's overall membership or about 1 in about 40 of Brentford's average home game to dictate what is going to happen within Brentford Football Club

I believe within the silent, unrepresented majority of Brentford Supporters are now faced with a major dilemma

I believe there has become an increasing awareness that the running of Brentford Football Club has fallen into the hands of a small group of people whose views are, I suggest, not wholly representative of Brentford Supporters at large. It is within here that I preceive to be a weakness of Bees United prospectively the majority shareholders of the club that I support. Membership is far too few supporters and, as a result, decisions that will be made in due course will be greatly influenced by the agendas of a small, organised but vociferous minority.

Now I don't know if this silent majority actually exists and how their views may differ from the "small but vociferous minority". What is obvious is that Clive (and presumably others like him because at least 2 other speakers echoed similar thoughts) feel that their views are not being represented. I'd like to see Clive come along to the BIAS Committee meetings and join organisations like BIAS (I don't know whether he is or is not a member) so that their views can be represented.

Thoughts anyone?

The Silent Majority

He is probably right........

The Silent Majority

Did anyone point out that Graham Hall was elected by a support of 150 votes!!

Which means that the silent majority didn't vote him in or out!! FACT

If by silent majority he means a majority of people who don't get involved he is right. If he is attributing his own views to those who choose not to get involved then he is wrong. Instead of silent majority we should maybe call them the apathetic?

My view is that the motion was put forward because a number of people felt their views weren't being represented but they actually did something about it as opposed to whingeing.

The Silent Majority

Unfortunately "Brentford Supporters at large" either don't know about or have little interest in affairs off the pitch - unfortunate but true :(

That does not mean however that anyone can come along & claim to represent their views though :nono:

Access to this site helps encourage fans to become involved. Unfortuantely the tripe in the programme is woefully inadequate at explaining the true state of affairs so the majority of fans at games are unaware of much that goes on.

and as long as they remain silent they will go unrepresented. That Mr lewry, is the way democracy works.

Exactly, Luton. If any Brentford fan doesn't want to express their opinion by either public discussion or private vote, fair enough. I don't like it when people don't get involved with what I consider to be serious issues but I recognise, like everyone else on here, that it's their right to prioritise other things and not participate in the debate or subsequent actions.

What I am not prepared to accept is that simply because people don't speak up, they are lining up behind anyone who invokes the phrase "silent majority". Neither do I have any sympathy for someone who can't be bothered to put a cross on a piece of paper and return it by a deadline and then complains that things are not as they should be and that a small minority are running the show (I don't imagine Mr Lurie is in this category).

If you want to get your two penn'orth in, you need to show up, either literally or metaphorically.

The Silent Majority

Ahem.........and just to say that I am gonna shoot the next person (whether in the silent majority or the vociferous minority) who says :

"It's not personal but........."

It's always ****ing personal so get real..........

There are people who have contributed to ruining the football club that I love and the debt has gone from zero to £8.5m (and possibly to £9.0,) in seven years under successive boards of directors. Well this (we have been told until I am sick of it) has been a risk worth taking and two of the current directors who sat through this mess will be sitting on the newly constituted board of directors sometime after January 19 2006. We will also have on board a CEO who seemingly is gonna be solely responsible to deliver whatever the new business plan is and who has been given a letter signed by Eddie Rogers confirming his appointment as permanent and contrary to what the "investors" had been told and promised. So with Rogers, Herting and Finch firmly on board I hope to God that Bees United put together a new board of directors strong enough to throw a saddle on these three and keep a barbed wire bit in their mouths to ensure that ther are no further "risks worth taking".
