The squad

The one thing I believe this season has taught us is that we basically have a lot of good “squad” players but not enough quality or cutting edge to be a real force in this division.

Ijah Anderson, Darren Powell, Danny Boxall, Paul Evans, Gavin Mahon, Martin Rowlands and Tony Folan are obvious class and would not look out of place in a higher division but what of the rest?

As much as I love little Scotty P and the big hearted Hutchy, I’m afraid that they are just not good enough players (in Scotty’s case all the skill in the world will not make up for his lack of firepower infront of goal) to be permanent fixtures in the Bees first team.

Others in the same bracket are Andy Scott, Scott Marshall, Robert Quinn and Lloyd Owusu -- the last of which I believe, could do a Jason Roberts and bag a hatful of goals in a couple of seasons time if he can get his confidence back.

Ivar Ingimarsson, Kevin O’Conner, Gareth Graham and Derek Bryan (when fit) have all shown superb promise but are, for now, just decent squad players.

Don’t quite know what to make of Lorenzo Pinamonte!

Of the rest, Michael Dobson could have a bright future at Brentford but is a rookie kid likely to be anything more than a bit part player next season if the Bees are to mount a serious promotion challenge?

Everyone else, including Woodman who did have a reasonable game yesterday, clearly have little to offer a winning side at this level and should go.

By my calculations then I make it that we’ve 7 excellent players, 9 decent squad players who will all have a role to play at various stages next season and Pinamonte!!!

Around five decent new arrivals in the summer then -- including three new strikers (Benjamin, Black and Agyemang ) -- and we’re up!

zob, i think marshall will be better next season.hopefully if he and powell stay fit,we should have a good central defence.he's never had a regular partnership at the back.i still think he might prove his monies worth.
my opinion is that andy scott would be a good player if he wasn't such a whimp.he bottles it too much.bob quinn looks o.k in certain positions and owusuu could find his feet in this division next season.i'd hate it if we ditched him, only to see him knocking in goals galore in the 1st in a couple of seasons.i think scotty p. can do the biz next season.i agree with you about woody though.don't know if this is old news, but a cobblers fan told me he left northampton because he had an affair with the chairmans wife.if he tries it on with mrs noads, ron might set lorenzo mafioso on him.i always thought woodman was gay anyway.wibble!!!

Dont't expect a flurry of signings for next season, although we need a couple of strikers for next season.

Looking at the side that started yesterday, i would imagine only Theobald will not been in the pool of 16 or so to be in contention for next season. The players are jaded, lacking in confidence and need a break! Look what happened in 1994, we did'nt win for 17 games and with only two new signings finished runners up the next season...

P.S. Love to see Benji at GP all the same
