This season's captain

I was watching a TV feature earlier this evening, filmed at the training ground presumably yesterday or today. There was a short clip of the players training but what was interesting was that Kevin O'Connor wasn't taking part - instead he was standing on the touchline, dressed in the coaching kit rather than the training kit, alongside Mark Warburton and David Weir.

No real surprise but clearly he's getting into the coaching side of things early on.

He's been the official captain for the last few seasons, even though he's not featured much, with both Jonathan Douglas and latterly Tony Craig acting as captain.

I wonder if it's time for one of those two (or someone else?) to be given the official captain's tag?

O'Connor has only captained in games when he's played. Douglas hardly captained at all last season, it has been Tony Craig so I expect that will stay the same this season.

They tried having Kevin Captain from the sidelines when not playing but it was not a great result. They then decided he would only Captain games in which he played.

Tony Craig as captain on the pitch. Don't need a change there. Why try to mend something that isn't broken? Remember the 5 against 1 last season, which Craig won.
That should be put on every training video for youngsters to see how to defend against the odds.

I realise it's probably just superstition, but a player who squats in the centre circle looking towards his own goal whenever his team has a penalty isn't really captaincy material for me.

Mind you, with our penalty record I can barely bring myself to look either.

Sounds like the England team under Sven, are you him by any chance? Maybe count up to 10 just to make sure all red cards/injuries are covered.

I was pointing out that if kev plays he will be captain ahead of tc or anyone else, i am well aware that he will probably only play 5-10 games, i put the order of our captains this season and kev was first ahead of craig, mccormack and douglas, a fairly straightforward comment and am not sure what is wrong about this!

Tony Craig. A good leader. Plays by example. Gives it when he has to. My 1st choice.

If TC is unfit, then, Macca.

If neither are in the first team, for whatever reason, then it'll be a tough choice, but I'd go for someone like Tarkowski or even Tébar.

Dead right. And let's remember Tony Craig still played several matches with a broken hand. You are right Squelch. If I was the opposition and saw those two in the players lists, I wouldn't be
relishing the battle, and, as you say, we are no longer the soft option. Ex players like Keane and Savage were pussycats in comparison to our two!
