Given that he is clearly his preferred striker who is in the middle of a rich vein of form, I think it reasonable to surmise that MA did'nt say ''Good, I am really pleased that he has left the club & I can no longer play him''

Martin's always said he wouldn't prevent anyone from playing at a higher level if someone came in. I could be wrong but I think he'll take it as part of the way of things.

...and who's job would it have been to have explained to DJ that a Premiership team wanted him, that his salary would have trebled/quadrupled, he'd have been on telly every week, but we decided to turn down his big opportunity 'cos we wanted him to stay at Brentford. This is the boy's big chance - as hard as it is, be happy for DJ. We will survive. And he went out on a high - he won't be easily forgotten at GP.

Did you also notice that the deal was something 'I feel I could not deny him. I promised every player that if a good offer came in I would consider it, if it enabled them to move higher and increase their earning potential.'

Sounds like MA made the decision not the Board forcing him to sell!

Seriously though, if that is the end of it now & just DJ has left (i.e. KoC, Turner, Tabb & Sodje remain) then although I am not delighted to see DJ go (understatement), it could have been much worse.
