Great appointment and a no brainer for me. Most experienced and qualified manager we've employed for many many years.

Agreed mate. Very impressed with his interview. Clearly a well educated and articulate individual.

Will be interesting to see who the assistant(s) is/are. Will we go full continental or will we want an English influence as well. My gut is that we will seek an English influence as well.

Will this be the first time that we’ll have an assistant coach not hand picked by the head coach / manager? Further enforces continuity when Tommy Frank leaves in the future to coach Danish national team.

No. Thomas Frank not being handpicked by Dean Smith being an obvious example!

I’m sure Warburton wasn’t handpicked by Nicky Forster either.

Thomas Frank

I do wish our interviewer would ask better questions though so we might actually get some insight into something.
Thomas mentions his strengths and weaknesses......ask what they are fgs!

Thomas Frank

Sensible decision.Hopefully details will soon emerge about his permanent assistants.

Thomas Frank

He struggled to elaborate on what the differences would be now he's the man in charge but that's understandable I suppose considering it's meant to be a "low impact" transition. A good interview though and can't wait to see how we get on in this new chapter

It’s the club owned channel - I wouldn’t expect a forensic examination if I were you.

He may also feel the need to be respectful to Dean and not come across as wanting to pick too many holes (In public) in Dean's methods etc.

I agree but then again its always good not to expand too much in this area as it looks disrespectful to your predecessor. Best to avoid the 'things are gonna change around here now, starting with your appearance!' etc. type approach.

Given that Frank was part of the three-man coaching team, the only things he could have picked holes in were Smith's decisions, I doubt the methods were greatly different as I understand Frank lead the Jersey Road training. It will, though, be interesting to spot any changes over the next three games, particularly around squad rotation.

His new assistant(s) will be more interesting as he/they may bring more to the party.

Thomas Frank

Bizarre overdubbing of the questions though; I assume the other mic failed.

Yeah, I thought that. Reminded me of the bit on Alan Partridge’s Scissored Isle where he dubs his interview with the mayor because he’d been out of it!

Wasn't expecting Paxman! Just ask him to describe the strengths and weaknesses he just mentioned!
Otherwise there's little point listening to "i'm happy to get the job and I have strengths and weaknesses" which is the same as every manager ever.

He’s not going to talk about his weaknesses in his first interview as Head Coach and the media team wouldn’t want him to either!

Thomas Frank

Decent interview, not sure what people expect as all interviews at every club are fairly sanitized. Would not expect any coach in public to detail his weaknesses are as that would lead to an element of disconcern with players and fans alike.

Not overly bothered about sound bites from any manager as they mean very little, the proof will be on the pitch and no doubt any perceived weaknesses will be discussed adnauseum on here by our very own tactical geniuses!!!!!!!

Well he did bring them up! If wanting to be all PR about it they could have just asked for the strengths he thinks he'll bring ;)

Thomas Frank

admitted though that his players knew both his strengths and weaknesses. An honest, humble and hopefully soon to be a very successful head coach. His interview exudes confidence and intelligence.

Always going to be Frank. Wise decision. It will be interesting to see if there are changes in the starting lineup and also in tactical flexibilty.IMO we only need tweaking.

Thomas Frank

I would not rule out king Kev knows the club inside out love to see part of our first team set up one of our own
Is he actually ready? I'd like to see someone who will bring something new to add to what we've got.

Thomas Frank

His wife's name is Nanna Frank! Nice!

I agree with you KOC is not ready yet, if he was I would have thought DoF’s would have moved him up to the first team

I may be wrong, but isn't he the first to be the B team coach - the guy responsible for getting it up and running. He's been quite successful at that - not only in terms of results, but in the number of players he's coached into the first team set-up (the idea of the B team surely). That's a fair bit of experience - and maybe one that should be encouraged upwards to the next level.

That Griffin Park anecdote at the end of the interview. Delightful.
He speaks so well. Articulate and insightful. Be interesting who he brings in to support him

...indeed....not a football cliche was uttered....how refreshing....think his post match interviews will confound and confuse the TV pundits....great stuff.

No. Fleming Pedersen was the B team coach, iirc. KOC was assistant.

I’d keep KOC where he is for now. I’d let him coach this batch of B team players for a couple of years. Then see where he’s at.

Thomas Frank

Indeed. I heard recently an article on Radio 4 that over 80% of Danes speak

English as a second language. I was gobsmacked !

If my wife and I are discussing something in English in a Danish shop within earshot of an assistant, they will just approach and start the conversation in English, not recognising that my wife is Danish, although she looks it.
They like to speak English, and are good at it, although tending towards American a lot of the time!

Or maybe it’s an important role which needs him in it while it establishes rather than for him to assist the first team while someone new learns the ropes in the B team and we risk losing the development of players there. KOC has spent his adult life at the club. There’s no hurry for him or us. We also don’t know what his preferred career path is. Not everyone wants to be the manager. He might be happy coaching the young players and be thought of more as a future DoF where he can use that experience to recruit.

Thomas Frank

First time I’ve seen him interviewed and he comes across really well. Also seems like a nice guy, but hope he is more of a Smith than a Rosenior!

Out of interest, is that through being taught English at school, or watching English (American) language tv programmes?

Is there a word for the temporary despair you feel when you click on a thread hoping for an interesting/ thought provoking contribution, but it turns out to a pun, or similar frivolity?
