So you're adament JDS started at RB, and not Ajer, because Ajer was not purchased as a RB? And you think that is a cohesive argument?
Canos wasn’t bought as a RB or an RWB therefore when he came on he was actually playing at LW. How’s that for cohesive?

Thomas Frank

Of course there are better RBs around but maybe not ones who we could afford and who wanted to come to us. Of the future prospects, maybe the club took the view they were less likely to get up to speed during this season than Roerslev and Canos. I don’t think we’ve ignored the issue, just decided that balancing affordability and immediacy of impact there hasn’t been anyone available. Perhaps the club ought to have been readier to spend more or accept a young player having a lot of on the job learning early season but Sergi and Mads weren’t a problem then, indeed both have played positive roles. Would it have been better to have not used them and developed a new player so that now we’d have a top RB? Is Roerslev really never going to make the grade? I think these must all have been considered by the club and a decision made that there has not so far been a better option available.

I suspect if we stay up our budget next season will be a lot higher and we’ll bring in some £20m+ players in wide areas.

Completely understand the rationale for your argument but what this boils down to, and that you’ve sort of said yourself, is it looks like we thought we could muddle through with Canos and Roerslev and that’s turned out to be a massive error of judgement.

Easy to say with hindsight, I admit, because at the start of the year many would’ve agreed it wouldn’t be an absolute disaster to persevere with those two depending on the opposition.

Even if we go down I just down see this as being likely….

I think Daniel Storey might be a bit of a tit.

I'll tell you what was wrong Daniel, we basically played an entire game with 10 v 11.

If you think Thomas Frank will be sacked with a loss at the weekend it probably shows how little do you know.

Thomas Frank

Apart from the TF sacking bit, everything else that was said about us on that podcast rang horribly true.
It was Sasha Goryunov, a pretty sound pundit normally, who said that he was a massive Brentford fan this season but that we had "just stopped playing" recently.

Thomas Frank

I do think TF is looking tired/drained, the emotiotional roller coaster he has been on with us must one day catch up. I think he may decide to walk away irrespective of the outcome of the season, he has achieved the promotion everyone wanted so badly and may feel that couldn’t be topped with us. All conjecture of course and await the ridicule ?

Thomas Frank

He needs what the whole club need. A bit of a morale boosting win. When we get that the general sentiment and stress levels will improve.

We need a break in fortune that may have come on Saturday with JDS starting and CE on the bench, a new positive formation and playing a team around us rather than a top 6 side but we were down to 10 men almost immediately. That must have sucked the so much optimism and confidence out of the team at that moment and even made CE21's arrival a little less momentous.

Thomas Frank

Sorry mate but Ajer was bought as a centre half not RB or RWB, as clearly seen today with three center backs , later in the game Ajer subbed with Canos Taking the RB position hence then 4 at the back !
Wrong lol Ajer was RB from the start - did you not watch the game? We were clearly 442 or 433 depending how far up Josh was

As soon as virtually everyone saw that starting line up saturday it changed the whole mood and sort of ruined CEs impact as coming on when 2 down and 10men doesn’t do anyone any favours….I’ve said it many many times on here that TF is tactically inept and doesn’t know how to change a game….he’s being found out at this level and it’s fkin worrying ? If that starting line up at Norwich doesn’t show us going for broke then it’s a real problem…as even a draw isn’t really any good now when you consider the games in April we’ve got??

Thomas Frank

The biggest issue for me is that all other teams seem to be scrapping for their lives. We don’t at all! Morale must be low?

Thomas Frank

....if TF somehow gets the players and the system sorted by Saturday....and we get the win....it will be the turning point just in the nick of time.....we really have to take the game to them.....it's what we used to do...no playing on the back foot....so to the players and TF......I want my Brentford back Saturday at Carrow Rd....make it happen.

Two top 3 finishes in what is recognised as the toughest league in the world tells me we have a very good head coach who knows what he’s doing.Shame we don’t have enough PL quality players for him to work with but will be hard to rectify for a club of our size.

The PL is MUCH tougher!

Also this season the games have come around quicker without long summer break. Our first team is good enough for Premiership but not so sure about our squad. We lack depth in quality

There’s significant weaknesses by Premier League standards in many of our regular starters…

Thomas Frank

I think TF has done a great job instilling team spirit, but confidence has drained away after poor results and I just hope he can rekindle that spirit this week. A win of any description would do wonders for everyone. That said, I thought his tactical limitations were cruelly exposed on Saturday. It was very obvious within a few minutes of us going down to ten men that Ryan Fraser was getting way too much space down the left, and very obvious that this was likely to lead to a goal. Nothing was done to address this, which was a huge error in my book.

This is very harsh Voice. We’re the smallest team in the league with the smallest budget and least experienced team (even including Eriksen). We have maybe 6 definite PL quality players and others who have tried their hardest to step up but haven’t been able to find that consistency. Even usual bankers like Norgaard and Janelt haven’t been at their best all season.

I have no doubt there will be significant transfer activity if we stay up and 6 PL quality players this season will become 9 by the start of next season.

Keep the faith. COYB

To be fair I did say the same thing when we were in the championship too?????

...'if we stay up'....oh gawd mate... surely you of all people are not on the turn....keep the faith eh...#rosetintedbrigade  ;)

Thomas Frank

We’ve had tremendously rotten luck this season with injuries, covid and now with a rotten challenge, all clubs have these but our small pool of players have struggled to cope, TF has suffered and imo has made many mistakes but we became far more sterile last season when we went 5 at the back or 3 if you want, we haven’t kicked on and imo had an identity for years. We were known for free flowing and attacking football which worked a lot of the time, was painful when bullied out of games and didn’t get us up, the new and more defensive/solid mode did, was working early on in this season too but we’ve gone out of form when the injuries and Covid are not really around, that’s the thing that has me ?, we put out some poor teams on paper and picked up points, we look much stronger in line up now, very strange.
That said, football is mad and you can easily just click into form for no real reason, a hard challenge, an early goal, just anything but excuses of Covid, poor form and returning from injury is over, we have to start winning, ?Norwich suffer with the start of the comeback.

Thomas Frank

Worst case scenario, we lose at Norwich on Saturday, do you lot think MB might consider alternatives? I think I’d like him to stay regardless, but another loss here and you will definitely hear the #FrankOut sentiment growing a little bit.

Thomas Frank

100%.

We all know TF isn’t getting sacked at the weekend whatever happens but the rest of the analysis was spot on.

It was especially hard listening to Sasha Guryanov given how much of a fan he is

No, I don’t see that as even a remote possibility.

In that scenario we would have 10 games to save ourselves and to be realistic only 3 or 4 of those do we have much chance of actually winning….Saturday is such a huge fkin game for both sides cos if the lose they are virtually down…if we lose I can’t see us staying up….whatever TF or anyone at the club say this is massive game and we have to get a result….defeat is unthinkable if we want to realistically stay up….win at all costs ??

beating Burnleh is more important than this game

Just your usual media misinterpretation and ineptness at understanding how we operate.

Media folks get paid to express opinions, no-one said they had to be accurate or anywhere near approaching reality.

This is typical 'look at the stats and misinterpret them' nonsense.

Thomas Frank isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Thomas Frank

To me, we don’t come across as the type of club to sack a manager who’s brang us so far just for some dodgy form, at the end of the day, we are still doing much better then predicted right now aren’t we?

I can’t see him going anywhere, it’s a different story now, especially after his first ten games a few years ago, I can’t lie I wanted him gone back then, but he won us all over. We operate differently, see Leeds.

Thomas Frank

Let's be blunt here, anyone who makes a TF out call 'if' we lose Saturday is not playing with a full deck. It would take us having a catastrophic loss of fortunes as a club for MB to even consider sacking him imo.

Thomas Frank

No chance of sacking TF he has just signed a new contract. So sad that so many in denial for so long over our situation when it is now I fear too late.
Or perhaps people realise that IF we go down there are plenty of reasons other than TF. Rotten luck with injuries, smallest budget in the league, or even the recruitment department but they have solid excuses too

Three teams have to go down. Not all will do so by having done stupid things.

Thomas Frank

...do you lot think MB might consider alternatives?
Nope.

For a whole host of reasons, not least of which is that he's just signed a new contract. No club (that's properly run) offers a coach a new contract if they're considering replacing them.

There's a collective responsibility for our performances on the pitch and subsequent results and Frank is only one part of that. We're simply not run like the majority of football clubs where most of the onus is on the coach/manager and the buck stops with them when things go wrong.

In any case, the season isn't over yet and I highly suspect that when it is, people will go back to lauding Thomas Frank for what he's achieved. Even if the worst does happen (which I don't think it will) I can't think of anyone better than Frank to continue 'Project Brentford'.

I also got the impression at the start of the season listening to what the DoF's had to say about the Premier League that they almost expected to ping pong between the Championship and the Premier League whilst the club established itself at the higher level. That suggested two things 1/ they wern't going to change how they do things and 2/ that Thomas Frank was very much part of the future process.

Thomas Frank

The formation is a side issue in my view. You can be attacking in a 3-5-2 and defensive in a 4-3-3. Last time we played 4-3-3 in the Championship we were by no means free flowing. In fact it had become stale and Toney was isolated.

Thomas Frank

Or perhaps people realise that IF we go down there are plenty of reasons other than TF. Rotten luck with injuries, smallest budget in the league, or even the recruitment department but they have solid excuses too
To clarify I do not subscribe to putting the blame on TF. Our overall planning demands that the Manager must work with what he is given. Injuries have undoubtedly played a massive part with a limited budget we were always likely to be in this position. Many of the team have not been able to make the progression to Premier League, many I( suspect never will.

I agree with a lot of what you have here apart from the final sentence.

We're 15th not rock bottom, cut adrift from everyone and I would argue when considered over the season most have showed an ability to compete at this level but consistency is obviously lacking. Players such as Raya, Henry, Norgaard have proved themselves whilst I think others such as Ajer, Janelt, Mbeumo, Toney, Pinnock, Roerslev, Wissa, Canos (ok I'm in the minority on that one) will benefit hugely from the experience this season and could improve and become more consistent at Premier League level.

Thomas Frank

It would be disingenuous to say the least to sack Frank after failing to give him the tools to do the job. I suspect those running the club are far more relaxed about the whole thing than we are..
