More than a couple of exaggerations in there, to be fair. We've definitely got some problems financially, we were expecting (probably naively) to be able to make some money fairly early in the window this summer by selling off Tielemans and cashing in on the like of Praet and/or Soumaré. Our spending every summer is usually offset by a highly profitable sale (Kante, Drinkwater, Mahrez, Maguire, Chilwell, etc) but we didn't do that last year, we retained everyone and bought anyway. The books needed to be balanced this summer, especially given we've bloated a little up to something like 29 senior players and the wage bill (a lot of whom are out of contract next summer for the better) isn't sustainable long term. So Fofana went out for ~80 and his replacement came in for ~15. Problem (largely) solved, if we stay up, which we probably will if Rodgers goes soon.

And it's not going to cost £20m to sack Brendan Rodgers, you're probably looking around half of that at most. Moreover Frank is one of the lowest paid head coaches in the Premier League - with the Fofana money largely unspent, there is a possibility he's obtainable.

I generally try not to come on to other fans' forums and start arguments, I had a brief foray in to this thread a week or so ago and had a nice chat with a few of you but there's just so much wrong with this post.

1. What does that even mean, exactly? I'm skipping the "identity" part because very few football clubs really have an "identity", it's usually a myth, but no strategy? We've gotten back in to the Premier League and despite having a budget dwarfed by all of the "Big Six" we've won the Premier League, the FA Cup and finished 5th in two of the last three seasons by applying the same philosophies to recruitment that your own football club has grown itself on. If we've done all of that on no strategy and plan then I worry for both of us.
2. Vichai bought LCFC for Top, Top is the football nut, if anything he's a lot more interested than his late father - especially now given that the club is a recognisable part of his legacy.
3. Here's a fun fact for you, if you take out players from the "Big Six" and sort every player in the rest of the league by Goals+Assists per 90 minutes for all of last season, FIVE of the top six are Leicester players (Jarrod Bowen is the intruder on 0.02 more than Iheanacho and Daka.) You've got to keep going down the list a bit to find Wissa and Toney.
4. 9 of the 11 that started the FA Cup Final are still at the club, the vast majority of the squad that were 2nd at Christmas in 2019 are still at the club.

**

Look, we're in a mess, our manager is toxic and he's sucked the life and the confidence out of the squad and his position is untenable. But stories about Leicester's downfall are wildly exaggerated, if we've the good sense to remove Rodgers before he does much more damage and replace him with someone less disastrous than Dyche or Benitez then I'd bet substantial money on us finishing comfortably in mid table with no drama this year before rebuilding.

I stand by what I said last time I popped in, I'd be extremely surprised if we poached Frank, I can't see him wanting to leave so early in the season and I do think it's likely we'll take somebody out of work. But the club stashing most of the Fofana money does leave us options and you're kidding yourselves if you think we're on the brink of immediate financial ruin. That's tabloid clickbait, not quite reality.
Very calmly done. ?
Some posters on here are a little more ‘aggressive’ than others - maybe post before fully engaging their brains, or, in this case, just seem to be angry people.

You’re more than welcome to keep coming on here, in my opinion.
I won’t wish your team luck though, I have to save that for Brentford ???

It cost Chelsea £20 million to take Potter from Brighton. Thomas Frank has some 2.5 years left on his contract. I believe that Brendan Rogers has about 2.5 left on his. By the time Leicester City have paid off all of Brendan Rogers staff whatever the sums involved to remove Rogers, and employ Frank will cost an enormous sum of money. Leicester City are currently on the edge of breaching financial fair play. Whatever you say it does not make business sense to employ a manager who is currently under contract. Anyone who takes over will find that the coffers are empty which is hardly going to attract TF. I note that you say in your post that it is unlikely anyway, which is something we agree on.

I'm cautious trying to discuss specifics when football finances in the 21st century are largely full of "undisclosed fees" and journalist's sensational predictions. But it's extremely unlikely that Rodgers will be paid out the full value of his remaining contract, ultimately he'll negotiate a settlement with the club that'll probably end up being around half of what he's currently 'owed.' Frank may have time left on his contract but he's also on a fairly humble wage comparable to most top flight coaches and he probably isn't entirely out of reach.

The problems Leicester have with financial fair play aren't so much the typical rolling cycles of spend, it's that we've got a grossly high wage bill with too many senior players on the books with the impending introduction of a UEFA-wide squad-cost rule based on % of turnover*. We need to slash our wage bill, which is why nobody was really all that alarmed or surprised to see Kasper leave for next to nothing to Nice.

This is why the board wouldn't let Rudkin (DoF) and Rodgers spend this summer, because the insistence was that we sell before we buy in order to take back control of the wage bill. However, quite a lot of our "bloat" is out of contract at the end of this season. Senior pros we've padded out the squad with are due to go and we should be back to some sort of normalcy next year as long as we're still in the league.

*interestingly, this is also why we're currently frantically trying to increase the capacity of the stadium to up the club's revenue in order to try to keep competing. This is of consequence to clubs like Brentford with (respectfully) smaller fanbases and little international commercial footprint for whom FFP is a seriously unfair glass ceiling. It's why clubs like Leicester will remain tempting to managers you employ, not because we're such majestic prestigious institutions but just because the raw numbers will allow more long-term investment if UEFA and the Premier League keep imposing these arbitrary caps to keep the wealthiest the wealthiest.

Not really interested in reading war and peace on another club’s woes in a Brentford website in a thread devoted to the Brentford manager.

No offence but I haven’t read your post because I am not as interested in Leicester as you are.

TF isn’t going there because you are probably going down as you sold a few good players and bought no replacements and are in big trouble.

Also Maddison is a complete ****.?

Thanks for covering off, I don’t share your confidence about finishing mid table unless you find someone up front to finish.
Your midfield with Tielemans, Maddison and Barnes is top drawer but not sure a past his best Vardy, Ilhanacheo or Daka who need 5 chances to score one will get you as high as you’ve been before.
Why do you think it’s so toxic, what has Rodgers done or said that has upset the momentum?

Thomas Frank

Am I right in thinking that TF is now our fourth longest-serving manager after MacDonald, Curtis and Halliday?

Goals aren't the problem, we're outscoring half the league at the moment and I'd say that comment about Daka and Iheanacho is unfair to the point of being about the opposite of truth. Their chance conversion is probably their biggest strength, see point 3 above. Daka and Iheanacho started together against Brighton, Iheanacho got a goal and Daka a goal and an assist. They're prolific when given actual opportunities, Iheanacho has, I think, 15 goals and 5 assists in his last 25 starts and averages a goal contribution (G+A combined) something like every 102 minutes over the last few years. Bonkers and an extremely poor reflection on a manager that near refuses to play him.

As for the question about Rodgers, I just think he's a decent coach of attacking football and a capable tactician but who is fundamentally flawed at man-management. He's extremely poor at inspiring and motivating the players, they frequently look lacking in confidence and to exacerbate the situation he'll routinely undermine them in public to save his own reputation. The best man managers (and I really envy you Frank for this, it's one reason I'd be happy to see him at Leicester) know how to go out and approach the media and deflect attention, protect the squad. You'll know better than me but, personally, I don't think I've ever seen Frank throw his players under the bus after a game? Rodgers does it every week and has done for two years. You just can't do that. Once in a blue moon under really extreme circumstances if your squad needs a wake up call, maybe. But making a habit of it is disastrous and it means that sooner or later, Brendan Rodgers is doomed to fall out with every squad he manages.

Fair play and thanks, Thomas is very honest but admits when we haven’t played well or have been beaten by a better side. However I really like that he never blames the team or individuals but would rather say we got the tactics and strategy wrong and then addresses behind closed doors and is happy to change players if they aren’t performing.

I like Leicester, the owner and what the family have done to involve and unite the community so happy for them to do well. Maybe my opinion is based on our games against you and what I’ve seen in highlights on TV. I do think that your midfield and I’d add Blenheim- Palace or whatever his name is to the others as a quality unit.
Good luck but roll over when you visit us please.

In Leicester’s defence their hospitality is excellent.
I got absolutely hammered there at the National Fraud Awards (given for prevention, not committing), after winning a couple of prizes.
Then we carried on to a little club called the Viper Room, where because we had full dinner dress on we were put in a roped off area and looked after until the small wee hours.
A great night out.

A very measured and detailed post.

All I would say to counter is that the manager you say is 'toxic' and whose position is 'untenable' is the same fella that's led your club to the best consecutive finishes in the top division for goodness knows how many years. And won the FA cup, as you pointed out. And he's done all this in a budget 'dwarfed by the big six' and with some of your best players sold on, with barely anything to replace them with.

It may well be time for a change and some fresh ideas, but be careful what you wish for. You should have enough in that team to pull clear of your current position, but you'd be ditching a manager who's played a big part in recent successes.

He's also a manager that's had probably the best and most resources we've ever had in our history - on and off the pitch - at his disposal to work with and his achievements have to be framed in that context. Make no mistake, Brendan Rodgers is very much a head coach, he's had the squad built for him and I'm not really comfortable attributing claims of overachievement vs. spend to him above the like of Rudkin (DoF) and Whelan (CEO.)

That said, you won't really find any Leicester fan (beyond the real mouth-breathers) that denies he had a solid first two seasons here by and large. He's done well, I'd say he's comfortably delivered 'par' over all up until last season.

Ultimately, any manager that comes to a club like Leicester is either going to be on the way up in his career and will be using us as a stepping stone or will have flaws that will have kept them back from better jobs, that's the nature of being a club our size (or yours.) Rodgers has a lot of good qualities, he can typically coach a team to play good, attractive football. But throughout his career he's got an extremely poor track record when things start to dip. You can talk to Swansea fans, Liverpool fans and now Leicester fans, they'll all give you the same appraisal of him - his management of character and morale within the squad isn't good, he lacks that human element. I think if you gave him a squad full of absolutely elite personalities, you know, twenty Roy Keanes who all have unwavering confidence and professionalism then he'd probably be their ideal coach. But a club like Leicester is always going to be reliant on recruiting young pros with potential who need moulding, need nurturing and need supporting and it just isn't his forte. He was always destined to get to this point with us.

A little less eulogising over Arsenal and a bit more of a critique of his teams poor performance would have been appropriate at TF's after match interview.
I saw very little positives to praise during yesterday's match.

Yes. You do not motivate people by praising performance levels that are clearly lacking. And it really doesn't help to state how wonderful the opposition is/was. The best motivators concentrate on events within their control.

Whenever we lose, an awful lot of posters here look to criticise our players/head coach, and give little or no praise to the opposition.
The premier league is full of very good teams, plus a handful of exceptional teams.
We lost to a very well-drilled side with top quality players, all over the pitch.
We weren’t great, but there’s no shame in losing to that Arsenal side.
Ramsdale is definitely a ****candle though :sueme:

Your last sentence is good?. What goes before it... I'm struggling to maintain your self esteem.
Good managers, never, ever slate their staff in public. I learnt that very early on in my managerial career. What's said in public, should be very different to what's said in private. Surprised at you but then I remember your rather inappropriate and proved to be wrong comments in the transfer window. Knee jerk responses are not serving you well. Try to appreciate a bigger picture. It will serve you well.

You're on a different level to The Pipe these days. Truly, the voice of reason?

I just think given Kevs legend status at the club he knows the players really well the club and fans that would be my choice anyway.
If they appointed him it would be for none of those reasons but we’d as fans like it for those reasons and trust the club hadn’t just appointed him on that basis. Being a legend, a lifer and knowing the players really well would qualify Peter Gilham for the job but nobody, even Peter in a vivid dream after polishing off a cheeseboard would think it qualified him to do it.

I reckon you’d be flogging them or stopping their water

Tbf Thomas is the other extreme....
On the odd occasion when the players have performed woefully he will often still insist they had a great game. Eg Arsenal just gone.
That's irritating but I appreciate only serves to rile fans and does not demotivate players.
I think as is often the case...the truth/best approach often lies somewhere in the middle.
Great coaches like Mourinho and Sir Alex got the balance between firm and fair just right IMO. They knew when to cause a stink and they knew when to protect the team.

And more importantly, doesn't undermine his own players in public. FFS, don't people know how to manage people around here!

Thank you for taking the time to write that post. It was interesting to say the least, which was no doubt why it has attracted many likes. Food for thought.

Praise in public and give b***ockings in private.

When I was in management and held meetings with all the staff I found that irrespective of how well or otherwise we were doing there was always something that could be found to praise by way of motivation. Then speak one in one and hand out “ the sh*t sandwich” good bad good

The other thing drummed into me by some of the most successful Managers I ever worked for was never criticise your team in public, and that transfers very well into the football world.

Wise words indeed and useful too when talking upwards and sideways in any business hierarchy and in social life too.

The alleged solicitor, you mean.
Leicester City intend to give under-pressure manager Brendan Rodgers more time to turn things around at the Premier League's bottom-placed club. However, the reception he receives from fans at the home game against Nottingham Forest could be key to the Northern Irishman's future at the club.
