Today's referee

Credit where credit's due I thought he was very good ( for a change). Kept up with the game, used his assistants well, got the big decisions right and most of all used common sense in keeping the game flowing and not getting his book out.

Thought it was one of the best refereeing performances i've seen for a long time. Stanley sums up the positives very well. Nice to be able to say well done to a ref.

Have to agree - the best thing you can say about the ref is you hardly noticed him

The best referee's are always the one's that are hardly noticed.A competant display today.

very good ref, cant remember a decision he got wrong, although he was helped by the fact it was a relativley calm game

Did we have a referee today as I never noticed him. Must have done alright then.

I thought that he was excellent as well (as I've already posted on the MOM thread) - which makes a very pleasant change indeed!

The ref was getting right on my t1ts today..but I always hate refs..even when i used to play I just got wound up by them all the time.

I thought it was refreshing not to see yellows all over the place but was hargreaves foul any worse than tabbs or that one on tabot?

I thought he was just a little fussy today as just when I thought we were going to build up a real head of steam he would blow the whistle for something silly or decide to give a 5 min lecture to an oldham player without booking him. He also let them take a quick free kick about 15 yards in front of where it happened whilst ball was moving but stopped us taking a quick one a few mins later.

All in all though about 1 million % better than we normally get at GP but i still shouted at him all game!

I think Hargreaves' booking may have been for repeated fouls rather than jist the one tackle.

Muich better ref than usual: like the way he handled a minor spat between Burton and Arber, just having a strong word with the latter and not reaching for cards

Assistants also seemed willing to be proactive and bring things to his attention

Thought Sat's ref was remarkably unfussy (compare him to the one we had last home match); let a number of physical challenges go but did so correctly; played the advantage absolutely perfectly. Even the fact he seemed to give Oldham slightly more freekicks than he gave us didn't bother me. Best we've had for a long time - but the one we had a few weeks ago was not bad either.

10 out of 10 for you, sir. And your linos.

Two good refs in two successive home games - we must be due a right sh*tter up at Barnsley

I didn't think he was too bad, tried to keep the game flowing, but there were some times when cards being shown would have been good!

Yep ... and thats the problem. OK the ref had a very good game but its a lottery on who you get next game. Consistancy is a problem coz tackles that todays ref let go may get penilised with a card in the next game which leaves a big grey area for the players and MA (and in all honesty ... the Fans too).

A lot has been said about how the ref was not noticed today but I think a fair assessment of the standard of refs at the moment would be that we feel it fit to start a thread on the fact that the ref had a good game today because lets face it ... its very rare that we are able to this. :)
