Tom Bender.

Was really shocked to hear about a serious injury to Tom Bender the Accrington defender. Aparantly, he was in a colision involving his own goalkeeper and a Tranmere player. Play was held up for 25 minuites while he got attention on the pitch. He eventually got taken to hospital by the paramedics and was on a drip.Good news is, he was showing signs of coming round. The game was abandoned, which was the best move for all concerned.
The lad is only 18 years old. Let's hope he makes a speedy recovery .

Tom Bender.

According to Sachin Nakrani of the Guardian he only has concussion. Fantastic news if true given it was believed to be a broken neck.

Wasn't there 22 mins of injury time at Ashton Gate once due to a Lloydy injury?

There was about that with Derek Bryan's injury as well.

Are you sure? I thought the Owusu injury was away - certainly don't recall being there which would have been unusual.

Tom Bender.

Yeah Owusu was away. Derek Bryan at home... To Oxford was it?

Anyway news on Tom is that he is ok. Scans are good. Should be fine.

Tom Bender.

Owusu was at Ashton Gate. Jog on Tree

Tom Bender.

Fair enough, i think i wrote fairly clearly that i wasn't there and was working from a memory that has been significanlty damaged in the intervening years!

Walsall in the ldv i think?

i WAS there for this one, and it was oxford, just after he scored a goal

Tom Bender.

Wasn't that injury time at Ashton Gate due to a number of injuries on both sides?

Remember it being from him diving in to score and i'll accept it was v oxford :sorted:

Tom Bender.

:) good news for the kid who must surely have gone through some tough times at school with that surname. Unless he changed it by deedpoll in which case good luck to the fella.

Tom Bender.

I hope the fans who paid can get into the rearranged match for free

Yes, not sure if his leg went into the post or just got twisted badly. It's the only time I can remember being able to see (with no medical knowledge) clearly that a player was badly injured

Collision with the goalkeeper I think.

Tom Bender.

..........the ref who abandoned the game is the ref tomorrow against Carlisle........

is that black lad the same Tranmere player involved in the incident who will also see his own goal chalked off by the abandonment of the match? :suspect:

yes owusu was at ashton gate, i remember watching it on ceefax. and derek bryan was a home LDV game v oxford, collided with keeper i'm sure. not sure about jason peircey though? :suspect:

I remember our last but one nameless Manager playing in that game. He put his sports science training at Loughborough to good use and helped the meds treat Derek Bryan on the pitch. I stood on ER for that game, the incident was unfolding just in front of where I was standing.

DB would hve collided with their gk, but think it was the goalpost. JP retired IIRC following a deadleg which turned into a serious blood condition??
