Tommy Black

Why did " we " start a thread based on pure speculation? His availability has now been hi-lighted to all and hes now heading off to the South Coast with his bucket and spade:(

This is not just speculation, the GPG's highly skilled team of news reporters have their fingers on the pulse at GP. Of course if it doesn't happen we can all just turn to the New Road when the teams come out on Saturday and laugh at Les.

Of course the deal may fall apart for various reasons....... let's see!

I do get it, you want at least one other central midfield player, someone of the calibre of Lewis & Lawrence when they were with us. Players who couldn't dislodge players of Talbots & Hargreaves calibre. Personally I think we need someone better than that.

No 5h!t Sherlock

There's nothing worse than being discredited infront of your peers.

Don't worry Les. The club never told us when Fitz when out on loan last time; and haven't mentioned his trip to Basingstoke yet. They may not bother to tell us about Black too! It's recoverable........ just :)

Tommy Black

Is there a message board equivelant to putting someobody in the stocks? :(

Song for Tommy

Well you might be a Bee with a record like that
he said you know me well
I seen you and little tomlin and Owusu
round the back of West Middx, oh yeah

Someone said Leroy was asking after you
but I know you best --as a benchwarmer
I said tell me your name is it sicknote?
He said "my boy it's Tommy" oh yeah

I was down, I was desperate
Grasping every little straw
I was sure with the Black we'll be over the worst of it
Gave me hope, thank you Dyke bring yer wallet over here
Let me dance with joy just for the hell of it

etc etc

Midfielder swoop imminent Wed, Nov 08 2006 14:14
Crystal Palace look set to part company with midfielder Tommy Black who could be on his way to Brentford on loan.
The 27-year-old has fallen out of favour at Selhurst Park and under-fire Eagles boss Peter Taylor is happy to let him move on in search of first-team football.

Blackpool were in the hunt to sign him earlier in the season but the player was not keen on a move up north as he did not want to unsettle his family.

A switch to Griffin Park does appeal though and Bees boss Leroy Rosenior is poised to swoop.

meanwhile they also report:

Midfielder swoop missed Wed, Nov 08 2006 14:15
Crystal Palace midfielder Tommy Black has snubbed a move to Blackpool and could be on his way to Brentford on loan.

This is a good signing. He was quality for Gillingham last year, really good player at this level.

I do get it, you want at least one other central midfield player, someone of the calibre of Lewis & Lawrence when they were with us. Players who couldn't dislodge players of Talbots & Hargreaves calibre. Personally I think we need someone better than that. Plus, as I have said on other threads our current midfield might be more affective if we didn't defend so deep, which we didn't under MA apart from when we were hanging on to 1-0's inthe 2nd half of games. We should condense the play, allowing our midfield more chance and with less ground to cover, win more 2nd balls. We currently leave the opposition too much space to work in and attack from. If you had a Talbot or Lewis in there, they wouldn't be anymore effective than what we have, simply because their legs wouldn't be able to cover all the open spaces we currently allow the opposition to have. So my argument is that our problem is actually defensive, and if you improve their set up that in turn might help our midfield to improve their games.

I think you make a good case there, my only problem with your idea is Leroy signed Matt Heywood. You are probably right that we defend far too deep but can you imagine if Heywood pushed up closer to the midfield and allowed plenty of space in behind him and the goalkeeper. It would be frightening, we defend deep because Heywood is paceless unlike when we had Sodje and could do that. If you could find some pace at the back then i think you probably have a point.

Tommy Black

if we get him that means the song will be back we are going up etc

If

but i think he could defintley add something to our team , maybe his good will balance out leroy's bad or am i being too optimistic

Tommy Black

And Tommy doesn't know what day it is
He doesn't know who Leroy is
Or what playing is
How can he be signed?
Or stand on our touchline?

(Apologies to Pete Townsend.)

Tommy Black

longer we go on....

I feel this aint gonna happen....

Quote from my Gillingham mate on Tommy Black ..

' He is the dogs b***ocks mate !!! Definitely was highly influential in our end of season form which saw win 7 games on the bounce !! He was still contracted to Palarse so even if we could afford his wages (which I doubt), we couldnt afford the transfer fee. Looks like he is not figuring in Peter Taylor's plans and as he is in the last year of his contract, he is being touted around. Wouldnt object of we signed him again !! '

Tommy Black

where is he then? is this a wind up? :)

BREAKING NEWS:
Brentford Saviour injured in freak accident......
"Rock On" Tommy Black is out for eight weeks after falling up the steps at Griffin Park while going to meet Leroy Rosenior.
Leroy is quoted as saying "It's Brentford, innit !"

Goes on for another 25 paragraphs....

I'll get me coat, shall I ?

Tommy Black

His best position it seems is out wide on the left. Does this mean he's going to provide lots of crosses for our two huge strikers or maybe he's been brought in to be THE tough tackling CM. (Still feeling a tad cynical after the weekend. Prepared to have my mind changed though)

It all sounds to good to be true... So where is he? ;)

I'm sorry about that. I probably have as much influence on GMT as I do on BFC though. I'm just the lucky mod who got to break the story. Have faith. I'd throw in a bit of hope as well if I were you but save your charity for the buckets on Saturday.

The story is true as far as the "GPG staff" know. It doesn't mean that he will sign. If you want "confirmation not speculation" you know where to go.

I'm posting this without consulting the rest of the GPG staff here but the following is probably correct! :D Our policy at the GPG is that a news story will only be posted when we have a lot of confidence that it's true.

Tommy Black

i have faith in your story, but im just a natural brentford fan, pessamistic
i would feel safe in my bed to night if statto chapman backed you up though

The story has been updated several time by the GPG team as more information became available (e.g. the amount Noades agreed with Arsenal for him).

The GPG staff exercise collective responsibility - that's what I told them anyway :D

I doubt the club will announce that they are NOT signing him!

They might tell us about Fitz going to Basingstoke soon though.

There was a big article in The Independent yeterday re Basingstoke. No mention of their rumoured coup about signing Fitz :nono:

no maybe not but someone in the media might mention that a deal has fallen through for whatever reason.

what is the confidence of the "staff" in this story now?

I believe it is a scared of pace factor, but all that now happens is players run at you with pace and the ball and we end up conceding fouls within good shooting range and dangerous delivery areas. Millen, Evans and Bates always defended further up the field and had no pace as do many teams we play against now. We are league 1, so a) the balls played over the top tend not to be that accurate and even someone with pace fails to get on the end of many b) not every club you face have forwards with extreme pace and c) our own midfield will be closer to the 2nd ball knock downs, meaning that they can close down the players who are looking to put the ball over the top.

If LR goes we could do worse than give Gee Bee an interview  :D

Tommy Black

according to basingstoke official site forums he went there last week but there could be a prob with them having too many loans
