Tommy Black

Perhaps the person who first got wind of this mis-heard his source.

...................or perhaps the premature leaking of the deal on here alerted Bratford to his availability !!

Tommy Black

Next time, post your own stories. :(

Still got over 250 replies though :D

You and Banana trying to out do each other on who can wind up the GPG the most and to get the highest number of replies/posts................... :D

:nono: The truth is a lot more straightforward than that.

Palace haven't confirmed he has gone to bradford yet, and the story on the bradford OS seems to be a copy of the sky sports story or vice versa and quotes there manager talking to the local rag about Black but doesn't say he has deffinately signed. I maybe clutching at straws here but there might be a chance of getting him still............

Tommy Black

It probably depends whether money plays any part in the deal. If it does, I hope he enjoys life in Yorkshire. If it doesn't I imagine that from a personal point of view Brentford would be a better location - in terms of football, I doubt he knows enough about either team to make a judgement (would Frampton have been at Palace with him?)

:imwith: Doesn't look a done deal to me.

No, but if you read todays Chronicle Keith Dickens confirmed after Saturdays game that the budget is all spent currently. Nobody else will come in unless somebody else goes out. Peters and Fitz make no real difference as we are still paying some of Fitz'z wages. so Leroy gambled last Saturday and lost, because the money he spent on a forward means no Tommy Black! Oh and apparently the guy from Chelsea this week was never going to come on loan, it was a long standing arrangement where he came and trained with us for 2 weeks!?!??!?! Why !?!?!?!?!?! Probably to show him what will happen if he doesnt knuckle down at Chelsea!

So in essence the Tommy Black story on the GPG was correct but Leroy took the Swindon guy instead hoping against hope that he would get a result against Doncaster and that he could then move for Black with the FA Cup 1st round winners cheque........sounds a good plan to me........

Tommy Black

If this is correct, and Leroy made the choice of a Swindon Town reserve over Tommy Black, then that's almost a sackable offence in itself. :mad1:

Tommy Black

you couldn't make it up ! Clueless LR.

Tommy Black

Paper reprted today that Bradford and Brentford are chasing after him.

I wonder where he will go??

Bradford mid table good shout of Playoffs and still in the FA Cup and confident after 4-0 win and experienced players to learn from.

Brentford near to his home.

Taylor is quoted as saying we were interested in Black, whether he was interested in us who knows. But when Leroy made his signing last Friday he new that without a win Saturday he would not be bringing in anybody else until he offloaded another player be it Black or any of the midfielders we had been trailing.

In last weeks Chronicle Leroy also confirmed Black was one of the players he was interested in and went on to use him as an example of the calibre of player we were looking at.... then promptly signed the guy from Swindon.

Doesn't that just show how clueless he is!!!!

An experience Championship player or Swindon's fifth choice striker!!

Smacks of panic the number of strikers he has signed and none (apart from Jo) looking likely to do the business.

Clear off, Leroy.

He / we might not have the budget to bring in Black on loan.

Depends how much of his wages we would have to pay - probably a fair bit more than a Swindon reserve.

BUt why waste any money on a Swinodn reserve, surely that could have been better spent. Moore & Kuffour coul dhave started up front, Moore has not been given the opportunity of a run in the team. Leroy brougt him in, plus Wijnhard so why waste money on another forward?

From a Palace mate of mine:

Was our first signing under Simon Jordan (£1m for him and Julian Gray from Arsenal). Steve Coppell left by mutual consent the next day. Tommy looked the better of the two prospects in his first season, a good little dribbler who could put a cross in.

Then he started to have attitude and fitness problems, but he came back to the fore in his third season, when he was playing for a new contract. He went on a brilliant run of form around the Christmas period, scoring ten goals in ten games. We rewarded him with a new four year £4,000 p/w contract in January, at which point he just stopped playing.

He didn't really feature until the run in of our promotion season the following year. In the last home game of the season, we were being held by Walsall in a must win game. Tommy came off the bench with 10 minutes to go and won us a stoppage time penalty, beating two men in the box before going down rather easily. AJ tucked away the rebound having had his penalty saved, and Palace were in the play-offs.

In our Premiership season, Tommy impressed in pre-season, but was shipped out on loan, first to Sheffield United and then to Nottingham Forest, where he broke is leg.

He returned to action last season, but couldn't force his way into the team. I saw him play for our reserves against Arsenal last September and he looked back to his best, but he was again farmed out on loan to Gillingham, where he performed well.

Peter Taylor doesn't seem to fancy him and his contract expires this Summer, so he'll be looking to impress at Brentford. The suspicion amongst Palace fans is that he has found his level.

Can we not just send the swindon bloke back and try again with Black or someone else, need a midfielder much more than another striker!

We're screwed then. We're not going to do anything this season without a central midfielder of note.. Sounds like he's shot himself in the foot.. :nono:

Unless it heals in January if players can be moved out.

The jokes about too many forwards being signed has really exploded now.
I really think that he thinks all forwards can play in midfield but surely Jo sums this lie up.

I wonder if it's no money period or no money for Leroy.

I reckon the latter - I think abee has made the comment previously, that in certain circumstances he believes the board will sanction the odd penny for emergency loans etc.

My view, they are playing a waiting game and letting Leroy hang himself............ here's hoping anyway.

What would the point be in "letting Leroy hang himself"? He won't resign without a payoff (I don't blame him for that, I wouldn't either), and unless he indulges in gross misconduct - as opposed to poor performance - sacking him will cost the same whenever we do it.

Either sack him now - my preferred option - or give him a 'reasonable' period, ie at least until New Year if you think he can improve. Waiting until things get worse would be a ludicrous approach

Don't worry lads leroy has another forward lined up....

look out for him saturday.

I agree - should be sacked already, but you'd think he 'd be aware that there was money for one signing rather than two before making his inetentions known.

Maybe the money was there, but it's suddenly gone.........conspiracy theory alert !!

Tommy Black

Don't you mean it saved Bradford the money ?

Tommy Black

sh*tty? We could never have persuaded him to join us over Watford, no matter how much he wanted to leave QPR.

Tommy Black

Its been said elsewhere i am sure but what really worries me about this is the lack of desire from Tommy Black to come to Brentford. He turned down a move to Blackpool because he didnt want to move north and expressed an interest in a 'London' club. One comes in for him and he hot foots it to exactly where he didnt want to go. Why?

Are we so unappealing? :( :(

Tommy Black

I don't think he turned us down nb - it looks like we couldn't afford to make him an offer in the end.

Exactly. Leroy spent whatever he was made available on a Swindon reserve instead.

... in the hope that the money from a cup win last Saturday would then give him money to sign Black this. Twist and bust. I would have thought it would have been a better idea to get a proven player in first, particularly one in a position where we have so few options. :( Likes a striker does Leroy though - just doesn't know how to spot a good 'un.
