Played full 90 minutes for New Zealand v Mexico last night in 2-0 defeat.

Will he make team for Leeds on Saturday?

I hope so. But it is probably a bit doubtful.
By the way, over 90,000 attended that match!
Is that the biggest attendance that a Bee has played in front of in the last 50 years?

IMO he's not a 'Bee' He's an Ipswich Town player.

If he left this morning he could be back by this evening, training Friday, to Leeds on Saturday (or Friday night if were staying the night). I'm sure Ipswich will have their say though, which is fair enough.

Tall order as that's some travelling but I suspect he would report directly to the team hotel on Friday pm.

A Jonathan Dos Santos tracer bullet rattled the woodwork midway through the first half in a tangible sign of the danger the star studded Mexican line-up posed but New Zealand coach Ricki Herbert was more than happy with the way his defence, including debutants Tommy Smith in central defence and Chad Coombes in the unaccustomed role of wingback, equipped themselves.

“It was always going to be a very big challenge coming here tonight,” Herbert said.

“We’re missing a few players who are essential to us and we haven’t played together for five months. We came here with a lot of respect for Mexico but I think they showed us a lot of respect too.”

“For us it was about trialling players and we had practically a new back five out there, but the match has given us what we needed and given us plenty of ideas moving forward.”

One of those ideas may be the confirmation that Tommy Smith is worthy of a place in New Zealand’s final 23-man squad.

While Sigmund will rightly earn most of the plaudits for his relentless tackling, Smith quietly shone on debut with his calmness and confidence.

“The back was always going an area under a lot of pressure, and we brought a Tommy Smith who’s only 20 and I think he had a very good debut for us tonight.

“Coming here in front of 90,000 against a team that’s top 15 in the world, it was going to be a real acid test for Tommy, and I think he passed with flying colours.

Bit of a come-down though.

90,000 Crowd V Mexico and a paltry 25,000 at little Leeds.

:suspect:

He'll play!!

Having done that flight and if he's travelling with BA, he'll be leaving by about 10/11pm our time tonight, arriving tomorrow morning. I hope he's got a flat bed...

Can you drive him to Ipswich and swap him for Pim Balkestein whilst he is sleeping then please?

Sorry missed this, I knew he had been picked to play for NZ but wasn't sure when. I'm intrigued to know where the game was played not in NZ surely even though they are printed first on the results list. Even big rugby internationals don't get 90K crowds and have they got any stadiums big enough ?

:sorted: spot on NB. a low impact player in my eyes i dread to think of his contribution jet lagged. Pim Balkestein made his presence tell and is twice the player imo

I wish i had a job where i could run for 95 mins maybe twice a week, and fly around the world on expenses ????? I think he should play why not ? he's 20yo if not I'd like to see him up at 4am every morning to do 12hrs of driving / delivering 5 days a week for prob half the money. I don't do that now, but did when 20 yo and trained 4x a week in full contact Kickboxing, and his problem is ????

Never mind Pim Tommy is the second best centre back we've got and considering we need to play 2...
