I checked on thetrainline and you can get back if you go via Manchester.

However you have to leave Liverpool by just after 6pm, which may be difficult from Birkenhead and you get back into Euston around midnight.

Nope, after much soul-searching I've decided I'm not going, trains are too much hassle & I can't face the drive. I'm gutted but I just keep remembering the 8-hour journey home last season & I can't face that again...
