Tranny reports

Simple to sum up really.

Thought we played wrong tactics (5 at back, no one knew what they were doing, was a shambles at times in first half), wrong players (Hutch and Smith ahead of Evans/Tabb?????), O'Connor up front and not in midfield, no Peters. We were crap until Peters and Tabb were on, no one was taking control of the ball.

Also, individual problems cost us. I don't care what any one says about the first pen and the sending off, both were correct decisions: Beadle threw an elbow, didn't connect but was blatant and head-high, and Sonko was charging after the striker like his life depended on it, it was obvious he'd never get there in time but chose to slide anyway. Bl00dy awful individual errors, especially cannot believe Beadle's, the guy is supposed to have experience but everyone knows you can't throw an elbow and get away with it.

Pissed off really, could've made a game of it with the right tactics and players but we didn't.

3rd goal was good from a set piece, and couldn't tell about their 2nd pen, too far away. Ours was probably the right decision, but Tabb definately played for it, was looking to fall over - for that reasons, many refs wouldn't have given it.

That was Fat Bee Slim's report under my name!

I felt the sending off harsh (on another match reported on the radio the journo stated that an (more) definate elbow deserved just a booking.

First goal poor marking against a solid and experienced forward.

The first pen was dubious as the ball was out of play when BOTH players clattered in to each other. Ref booked Sonko, if it was for dangerous play it should have been a red, otherwise - no pen!

Our pen was definate altho' Tabb was playing for it.

Their third was a very good header from a dubious free kick. Fourth, don't know why as too far away!

Team came back well when Tabb and Peters came on but until then did not seem to know what to do - Dobbo left the left winger in acres of space all afternoon.

Tactically, why no Peters at the start and more important why Hutch at all? He has played little part in the pre-season preparation and Peters looked 'up for it' when on the pitch - as
did Tabb.

Evans presumably injured as not even on the bench.

Ref gave us a lot of free kicks early on, correctly, then someone told him the home side were in white so after that we got nothing.

Overall, not as concerned as some as we always lose at Tranny and the way we came back was good, althgough inevitably an inexperienced 10 against a very experienced 11 were always going to tire as the home side used the full width of the pitch to keep us running around (why don't we do that when we play against 10!).

Started off 5-3-2 and looking quite solid until a moment of utter stupidity by Peter Beadle (experienced pro, aged 31) made all the training and preparation redundant.

I know people will slag off Wally for not playing Peters and Tabb but you can't legislate for having to play with 10 men for 80 minutes in 100 degree heat. Immediately switched to 4-4-1 with O'Connor on his own up front and Kev just isn't the player to hold the ball up (that was Beadle's job) and relieve pressure. Conceded very soon after due to poor marking and a very dubious penalty.

Jay Tabb had a really positive impact when he came on with his energy and ability to run with the ball. he won the penalty and then contrived to put the ball over from a yard out but the hope was all too short lived as a header from Haworth and another dodgy penalty finished us off.

Effort couldn't be faulted but it looks like a long hard season.

Paul Smith should never have been sent off, all he did was head butt the Tranmere assistant manager, no that doesn't sound right does it? I think I'll leave this report stuff to the professionals, my eye sight is not what it was.

The whole game hinged on Beadles' sending off, not only did we have to play with 10 men for 80 minutes in 95 degrees but the 3-5-2 formation , which had looked pretty good to start with, had to be abandoned at cost. Tranmere's strength is in the air up front and it showed with the two open goals they scored which the original formation was designed to cope with.

Hard to judge if Beadles' sending off was right or not all I saw was their player hitting him round the head in some sort of retaliation ( which went unpunished)... seemed to me Beadle was just trying to shake off some over zealous marking and caught this five foot nothing Tranmere player on the head. Sadly the ref was the type we met too often last season and seemed more interested in impressing the assessor in the stand, I thought he was shocking and very inconsistent

After the sending off we lost shape and rythmn after a good start beforehand. Sonko had a mare to be honest and giving away the penalty effectively ended the game, although other refs would not have given it, he was a bit late but both players were stretching for a ball going nowhere.

Couldn't see second penalty against us but seemed one of those that some refs will give others wouldn't, Tabbs was more clear, nicely despatched by Hunt

Positives were Tabb ( better than Rowly?), J Smith and O'Connor who all look to have stepped up a gear or two. The day was summed up by Fieldwick's booking for an innocuous foul when an identical one a few minutes earlier by a Tranmere player went unpunished.

No doubt the Wally knockers will be out in force, but I think his original formation was OK, he was let down by some of the players and a 2/10 referee.

Paul Smith will keep us up:wave:

Sonko wasn't interested:nono:

O'Connor worked his socks off:wave:

Tabb nearly changed the game:wave:

Beadle should be fined two weeks wages and sacked. If thats a professional, I'm a chinaman:nono:

For the first twenty minutes of the second half we outplayed them:idea:

Tranmere will not go up:idea:

Finally, we never have any luck in that part of the world and after 12 minutes we knew that wasn't going to change:D

Just seen the goals again on Sky and I now think the first pen was the correct decision. The second one though just looked like Roget won the ball in the air with a strong header. Their keeper should have walked as Tabb would have scored had he not been brought down. As for the 2 goals from open play, they go down to shocking defending, especially Haworth's header from a free kick where he just strolled in and nodded past Smith while everyone else stood still.

Tranmere reports

Nobody has mentioned their defender pulling down O'Conner when he looked to be through - got a free kick but the ref didn't even speak to the defender let alone yellow or red card him!!!
Dobbo hit a great free kick down into the bootom corner which their keeper did well to save.
Smithy made some great save but throughout the game continued to boot it up field for O'Connor when a roll out to Dobbo or Somner may have allowed us to keep the ball a bit longer . This was something they seemed to be trying in the Reading friendlly.
Hunty was poor until Tabb came on and then seemed brighter and worked harder - tucked the pen away well.
How many times though did our free kicks/corners sail over everyone including Hutch at the back post.

Pity about the other seventy then eh??? :D

I thought that before the sending off we matched Tranmere, but after we went down to ten men, it never looked likely. Until, as BC says the start of the second half where we got the goal. Soon after that Kev and Tabby both missed great chances in the same attcak. I don't feel as though we deserved to lose 4-1. Considering we had 10 men and were away to one of the promotion favourites, I don't think we can be ashamed.

:nono: Not me sir, i was wearing a (rather fetching ;) ) green number....

On the game - Somner`s was head and shoulders our best defender yesterday IMHO. Didn`t see the Beadle incident so cant really comment.

Our centre halves cost us 2 goals from pens...... Roget and Sonko were totally disorganised and played as if they had only just met. Major losses of concentration.
On their day they are potentially one of the best centre back partnerships in this division but at the moment I would pick Somner there, then one from Sonko/Roget in that position when we play 4-4-2.
Sonko`s challenge for their 1st pen was plain crazy :nono:

MOM: Tabb - for inspiring us into a spirited comeback till their 3rd went in.

Tranmere reports

thought Smithy made some great saves but he missed virtually every single cross and could have conceced two goal in the firat half just be his flapping around.

Tranmere reports

Shocking performance. It was always goin to be a tough game due to our record at their place but being reduced to 10 men after 10 minutes made sure we were gonna get spanked. Didn't see the incident, sounds like it was deserved tho.

I'm sure the ladz will come good this season, temporary setback!

Indeed - they came initially to ask us to sit down, but stayed to agree wholeheartedly with us that the referee was a kitten killer.

Stewrads were very fair, they did their job with little fuss and even though we got cained no-one was upset with them.

There's not much that hasn't been said.

We need to improve, improve on keeping the ball, improve at the back and improve our discipline.

There were positives. We fought hard in the 2nd half, Tabb was top class and Smith produced a few fantastic saves but Tranmere are a decent side, top 8 at least and we had no chance with 10 men and with 2 of our most creative players sitting on the bench.
